CHAPTER 1
Chapter One - The Surprising Night
---
Gabriella woke up. Her tanned eyes stared at the ceiling. Everything looked unfamiliar. This was not Wendy's room, nor was it hers. Startled, the woman glared and hurriedly got up.
"Damn it!"
There was another surprised figure there. Gabriella turned her head quickly, while holding back the scream in her throat. Preventing the shock that was ready to bombard the whole room.
"I thought you were dead, asshole!"
"Who are you?!"
"I should be asking, who are you?"
"Huh?"
---
Gabriella looked at her face in the vertical mirror. Her hair was tangled in no particular direction. Despite using shampoo that was often advertised on television, complete with tonics and vitamins that were predicted to make every strand of hair soft and organized, Gabriella's current appearance portrayed the opposite.
One of the long-haired woman's hands touched the top of her head, while scratching it slowly, Gabriella shook her head in disbelief. "You must be crazy, El."
A sigh escaped Gabriella. It sounded heavy and irritated, before the gentle caress she gave to the dark hair with blonde highlights on top of the head, turned into a more aggressive, half-frustrated movement.
"AHHHHHHH!!!!"
Hair that was already a mess was only getting messier. Gabriella patted her cheeks hard, as if the twenty-seven-year-old woman had been trapped in a nightmare: a very real nightmare.
Drrt!
Drrt!
Drrt!
A call appeared on the screen. Gabriella quietly peered nervously, her cell phone on the mattress was in fact still vibrating.
"Heuh ...," sighed Gabriella, sounding more relieved.
And with one swift movement, Gabriella immediately pulled out the flat-shaped object, to then take the call and stick the screen that automatically turned off on the surface of her ear.
"Hello, Wen?"
"GABRIELLA!"
Gabriella chuckled as she moved the phone away from her ear. The loud purring coming from the woman on the other side nearly burst her eardrums, or at least temporarily deafened her.
"Gab, you're there, right? Hear me, right?"
And the woman who was now walking towards her bed sighed again, before putting the cell phone to her left ear. "Yep."
"I swear! What the hell are you doing? I'm totally shocked from reading your chat last night, you know? I can't keep in touch with you, for crying out loud!"
The outburst from Wendy, one of Gabriella's closest friends, almost made her bang her head against a hard wall. Or at the very least, Gabriella had to hide her face under a pillow forever until everything she did yesterday was forgotten by everyone.
The woman's buttocks finally landed on the edge of the bed. "I'm in shock too, Wen."
"But are you okay now?"
Wendy didn't really notice Gabriella's answer which sounded disconnected from the previous question.
And all Gabriella did there was shake her head, although of course, the woman knew that her best friend would not be able to see it.
"Look, if you have a problem and you feel it's just to heavy, how about we meet now? I'll pick you up, okay?"
"But, my work-"
"No, no!" Wendy interrupted. "How could you want to kill yourself and even remember your work. Anyway, I'll pick you up now. Okay?"
The woman with a black blazer covering her revealing white top mumbled for a while. Seemed to deliberate for a while. Before saying, "Well, okay. I'll get ready first."
"Okay, I'll be there now."
"Okay, see you."

Ken sat under the colorful lights that kept spinning in sync with the loud music. His eyes stared blankly even as his hands kept moving to pour wine into glasses. One glass, two glasses... Ken had finished his wine by the third glass and still felt uncomfortable with the situation he had just been in.
The man sighed. Although of course, no matter how hard Ken did it, the sound of the music from the disc jockey's compilation of songs won the moment. A disc jockey was playing some famous songs on the stage to entertain the visitors who came to the First Club, but Ken couldn't enjoy it at all.
Even though the songs played by the entertainers on stage were this week's popular lineup, Ken still couldn't get rid of his memories of last night.
"Whatsup, Bro!"
Ken turned to the source of the voice that had just tapped him on the shoulder from behind. Harry was there. The man looked relaxed in a beach-patterned shirt and a white T-shirt underneath, while to complete his look, Harry chose shorts that went past his knees to give an informal impression there.
"How come you're already asking me to go to the club? Are you stressed?"
Harry took the seat in front of Ken without any prompting. One hand moved to pour the wine in the bottle into the glass used by Ken earlier, then gulped it down without any sense of guilt.
"Didn't Stefani break up with you, huh?"
Ken frowned. "No."
"Really?"
"Since when do I get dumped by girls?"
Harry chuckled. "Yeah, you're right. " Then the man raised one eyebrow up, looking at his interlocutor curiously. "So, why?"
"It's hard to explain."
"What, how unclean is your language?" Harry laughed instead of sympathizing with Ken. He poured more wine into his glass and looked at Ken casually. Indeed, Harry had a very relaxed attitude, anywhere, anytime and to anyone. "You're having a hard time, aren't you?"
Ken's narrow, black eyes shot straight at Harry. The man was still enjoying the wine in his hand, even though it absolutely belonged to Ken. Then, lowering his voice, Ken muttered. "Have you ever not ...,"
The man who had always accompanied Ken every time he went to a nightclub, now wrinkled his forehead deeply. Harry's face looked very curious, but also cautious at the same time. And patiently, Harry waited for Ken to continue.
But suddenly...
"Ah, I'm not going to say it."
"You're a dog, man!"
The glass Harry was holding almost flew over Ken's head. How could the man make Harry curious, and then leave that curiosity hanging without a satisfactory resolution?
If normally Ken would be happy to have managed to upset his best friend, this time Ken felt nothing. He didn't even care as Harry continued to curse at him and swear endlessly while drinking the alcohol in his hand. Ken's gaze only stared ahead, though his mind was clearly wandering.
For the first time, Ken couldn't get rid of his encounter with a woman. In fact, women were like toys to him. He could easily date, fuck, and then end every woman he liked. As the days changed, so did the women he dated. One-night-stand relationships are like daily food.
For him, commitment was just nonsense.
Until finally, that day, that night, Ken met Gabriella who almost jumped from the highest floor of the Mall and accidentally, Ken saved her.
Unfortunately, Gabriella refused to be rescued and blamed Ken for the loss of courage she had accumulated.
"Do you think ... it's wrong to save someone who wants to jump off the Mall?"
