Chapter23
She rose up without a sound, making her way towards Edmundo's compartment. She listened for a while, deciding to learn what was going on. Nothing happened for a while and she was just getting prepared to go back when his voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Do you have any information on him?",he said.
Rita knew that he was on the phone with someone but try as she may, she had no idea who that person was.
"What do you mean no information? How can someone live without anything related to him, there must be something. Search for anything you can find concerning him and get back to me the moment you get something", he said.
"Good", he snapped.
Rita knew he had ended his conversation and the next minute, he'll be coming out. She scrambled back to her seat, picking up her plate from where she dropped it. Edmundo came in soon, giving her a sardonic smile.
"Missed me my darling?",he chuckled.
"This food is really good, you must thank the chef", Rita said, completely ignoring his previous question.
"I don't need to thank him, that's what I pay them for", his said, a light frown marring his face.
"You should. Their humans and should be treated with love and respect", Rita said.
"That's really not necessary. As long as I'm paying them for the services they render, there's no need doing that".
Rita gave up. Apparently, arguing with a fool like Edmundo was like arguing with a wall. It would never move.
"So, what is this event we're going for", Rita said, diverting the discussion.
"A wedding ceremony of one of my good friends. It's going to be a week long event", he said.
"A week long? I mean, I know weddings are a thing of celebration but don't you think a week is too long to celebrate that", Rita said, not quite believing her ears.
She couldn't understand why people decided to waste funds in the most stupid way when there are children and homes out there without food or shelter. She just couldn't understand it, it was stupid and downright foolish.
"Rita, why do you behave like you come from the lower class. I really don't see why we shouldn't celebrate weddings for a week", Edmundo said.
"I'm not saying it's a bad idea but think about those people that would benefit from the funds that would be going into these parties. If you ask me, I think it's a bit extravagant", Rita said.
"Sometimes, I wonder if your brain works. Too bad your father gave you his company to run, I really hope you don't Ruin everything he has labored for", he said, staring at her with hate filled eyes.
"I won't stand here and have you insult me. You're a despicable human being and the only reason I agreed to accompany you to this journey is the love I have for my father", Rita said, close to tears.
At that moment, she really wished Rodrigo was beside her. He alone could calm her nerves which were suddenly going haywire. She stared at Edmundo, deciding to hold her tongue.
"Are you done talking, I need to prepare for the plane's landing", he said, moving over to his seat, buckling it in the process.
"I hope you change one day, I hope you really do", Rita said, buckling her seatbelt.
"This is me sugar girl. Love me or leave me but I know you know the consequences of doing the latter", he laughed.
Rita sighed, looking out of the window. Her mind was made up, there was no way on earth she'll ever marry him. She vowed to destroy her relationship with him no matter what it cost. Her happiness was pivotal. Rita knew just the right thing to do.
When they landed in Madrid, a car was waiting for them, ready to take them to their destination which turned out to be Edmundo's penthouse. A lavish building that covered a wide expanse of land. The building was quaint with a transparent glass door that seemed to sparkle in the morning sun.
"Welcome to my private place", he said.
Rita halted in her steps. That was the same name she called her private house back in Spain. She didn't believe in coincidences and she wondered if perhaps Edmundo knew about her building. She didn't know what she'd do if he discovered the place. No doubt, he'll look for every avenue to always visit her, disturbing the little peace she had managed to build away from him.
"It's... Nice", she said, walking into the building.
"Thank you, I bought it yesterday", he grinned.
Rita halted in her steps, staring at him. She couldn't believe what she just heard, a building as big as this would take months before the purchase can be made but knowing who he was, Rita had no doubts that he sped up the process.
"Wow... That's good. How much did you get it for?",she asked.
"A little over a million", he said.
Rita sighed, staring at the living room which was tastefully furnished with state of the art facilities and furnitures. She could tell that Edmundo wasted no expense in getting the best and this just proved that money was his strength but also his weakness. A weakness that Rita was going to prey on.
"That's huge but it's worth it. So, where would I be sleeping?",she asked.
"With me, in my room", he said, making his way upstairs to where the rooms were located.
"But I can't Edmundo, it's not proper. We're not married yet, that's a taboo and you know it", she said.
"I don't care. This is the twenty first century, those things don't matter anymore", he said.
He opened a room door with a key card, ushering her in. Rita was in awe at the murals of the room. A large chandelier sat at the center, illuminating light so bright it seemed daytime had visited the room.
"Like what you see?", Edmundo grinned.
