Chapter36
Rita could hear her child whining in the background, demanding for something. She smiled, feeling a pang of motherly affection for the child.
"If you ask me, I don't see anything wrong with that. At least, he's better than the man whore I have for a fiance", she sighed.
"Oh darling, don't worry. I'm sure something would happen soon that would change your parents mind against it".
"I hope so. All the more reason why we need this outing tomorrow, I need to talk to you", Rita said.
"Don't worry my dear, I'll be there tomorrow. What time though so I'll inform Marco. He'll probably baby sit tomorrow since he owes me a favour or two"Theresa chuckled.
"Okay, say by nine p.m. We'll go to one of the clubs in town, I don't want to go to my father's since most of his workers would recognize me easily. No doubt, they'll rat me out faster than I can say my name", Rita said.
"Perks of being a billionaire daughter"Theresa laughed.
The baby was finally quiet and Rita was quite sure that Theresa had put him to sleep.
"You are too but your parents doesn't stalk you like mine does".
"That's because we're different. You're a sweet, loving and polite daughter and me, you know I've always been rebellious. Imagine the joy when I finally introduced Marco to then as my husband", Theresa said.
"Oh gosh, I remember our days in highschool. You and your wild parties and me, just in a corner reading my books", Rita laughed.
A sense of nostalgia hit her as her mind flashed back to the memories of the past. She was always so quiet and obedient while Theresa was the rebellious one.
"Which made you come out tops during our graduation ceremony. You were always the brainy one and sometimes, I envied you for that".
"I guess that's just the way I am", she said.
"Yes, and you're special. So girl, don't mind what people say and love yourself for who you are", Theresa said.
"I will, thank you love".
"Anytime. I'll come pick you up by nine, wear something sexy cause we're going to have loads of fun", she whooped.
"I will but you, not so much or else Marco would pull the whole club down", Rita laughed.
"To be honest, I think he will. Okay, I'll just wear something less sexy", she chuckled.
"Okay, see you tomorrow love", Rita smiled.
"Ciao", Theresa laughed before cutting the call.
Rita relaxed, feeling happy she had talked to someone asides her parents. She looked forward to attending the party and nothing would stop her from doing so.
The following day, being the last day of the working week, Rita walked into the office building. She had a renewed strength, vowing that nothing would spoil her day. She wanted to finish up with her workload so she could leave early and prepare for Theresa's arrival.
"I... Don't worry about picking me up this evening, I'm going somewhere from here", she said.
She was in her office with Rodrigo. The chaffeur had a confused expression on his face as he tried to determine what she was saying.
"It's okay Rita, I could drive you wherever you want", he said.
He moved closer to her, giving her hands a gentle squeeze. Rita didn't want him knowing where she was going. She wanted an alone time with her friend, away from her parents and even Rodrigo. Not that she had stopped loving him, far from it. She just wanted to be alone for some time.
"I promise, don't worry about it. If there's anything amiss, I'll give you a call", she said, kissing him full on the lips.
"You don't need to, I'll find you. I'll always find you", he smiled.
His smile nearly broke her resolve and she almost broke her resolve. She kept her mouth shut, settling for a nod instead.
He left soon and Rita felt downcast. She hated keeping things away from him but this time around, she just had to. She wanted to be alone for one night to clear her head.
Later on, at the close of work, Rita drove home herself. When she got home, she took a long shower, washing her hair in the process. When she was done with this, she selected a dress from her over filled wardrobe. It was a skimpy black dress that hugged all her curves. She packed her hair in an updo fashion, loving the way it curled naturally.
When she stared at herself in the mirror, she smiled at her appearance. She was going to have so much fun and nothing would ruin it.
Just then, her phone rang. She expected it to be Theresa but the caller ID showed that it was Rodrigo calling. She wasn't expecting his call, wondering if something was wrong. Suddenly, a thought occured in her mind. What if it was his mother? Could she have died? Rita shuddered, thinking the worse as she picked the call. No doubt, if it was this, she would ditch this outing and rush to wherever he was.
"Sugar girl", he smiled.
Rita sagged in relief. Everything was alright, the relief she felt within her was palpable as she smiled into the phone.
"Hey love", she smiled.
She put the call on speaker, placing it on her bed as she wore her strappy heels. When she was done, she made her way to the wardrobe, accidentally knocking over her bedside lamp.
"What was that? Are you outside?",he said.
She had forgotten how smart he was. He was trained to pick up any sound, even the slightest one.
"I... No, I'm not outside", she said, biting her lips.
"Sugar girl, are you lieing to me?",he chuckled.
"No... I'm not. I accidentally knocked over my bedside lamp", she said.
"Okay. How are you?".
Rita knew that he wasn't convinced but she left it at that. She didn't want to tell him what she's up to. No doubt, he'll stop her from going which she didn't want.
"I'm fine, just had dinner", she lied smoothly.
