Chapter 58
Stella didn't expect Ella to still be concerned about this, but when she thought of Ethan, she smiled gently and responded lightly, "Yeah."
Ella also smiled and said, "That's great. When he took you out of the equipment room back then, I felt he was different towards you. I wish you both well."
Stella furrowed her brows slightly, lifted her gaze to look at her, and asked, "What do you mean?"
When she received a message from Ethan, the class reunion was almost over. Stella was still immersed in her last conversation with Ella, absent-mindedly walking out of the restaurant with the others.
In the slightly cool night, rain began to fall gently. The evening breeze blew, carrying moist mist and droplets on her face, bringing back a sense of clarity.
Stella subconsciously glanced at her phone. There were quite a few people at today's gathering. The guys who had been drinking were either waiting for their designated drivers or asking the ones who hadn't been drinking to give them a ride.
Standing at the restaurant's entrance, Liora turned to ask her, "Did you drive here?"
"No," Stella replied. When she came, the driver went to the villa to pick her up.
"Do you want me to give you a ride then? Where do you live?" Liora kindly asked.
Stella was about to speak when the surrounding noise quieted down, and the intermittent chatter gradually ceased.
Not far away, a familiar figure caught her eye. The man had a cool demeanor and a distinguished aura. He wore a crisp suit jacket over a dark gray wool coat, and he walked confidently toward the group, holding a black umbrella. The rain was falling steadily, creating a soft, rhythmic sound as it hit the pavement. Droplets glistened on his umbrella and the shoulders of his coat.
Stella watched as the figure approached her at a leisurely pace, and for a moment, everything around her seemed to freeze. Ethan's handsome features, transcending the passage of time, gradually merged with the vague impression that had stayed in her mind for many years.
It wasn't until he draped the coat over her shoulders that Stella snapped out of her daze, hearing his calmly spoken words, "Is the party over? Let's go then."
She turned to the side, smiling as she nodded at Liora, "Thank you for your help. I'll leave first."
Ethan nodded politely to the others, then reached out to her, and the two of them walked together towards the Bentley parked not far away.
As they disappeared from view, Jimmy spoke amidst the silence of the crowd, "Why didn't I notice before that Stella and Ethan actually make a pretty good match."
"Of course, they're a legitimate couple. How could they not be compatible?" Tom looked at him with disdain.
Jimmy chuckled lightly and muttered under his breath, "Then why did you say at the wedding that he used to be the groom just to steal Aaron's bride?"
No one else heard that remark.
"After all, he's already snatched her away. Isn't Stella his wife now? You better start using your brain a bit more and suck up to him," Jimmy said disdainfully, with a slight curl of his lips.
"Speaking as if your brain, ranked second to last, is necessarily better than mine," Tom retorted, extending a hand towards his friend in a gesture of pride.
"What's that? Forgot I scored five points higher than you on the college entrance exam? There's a world of difference between our brains."
"Indeed you scored five points higher, a whopping 250," Jimmy replied sarcastically.
"Get lost!"
On the way back, Stella remained silent, gazing out of the car window, with Ella's words echoing repeatedly in her ears, "At that time, he took you to the hospital, and after hearing from the doctor that you were fine, he received a call from home. His expression wasn't too good, so he left before you woke up."
So it was him. It was actually him. As she gazed at the blurry lights amidst the bustling night scene, her contemplative thoughts stretched infinitely, and she suddenly recalled her days in her sophomore year of high school.
