Chapter43 Trish's Latest Discovery
Cindy answers the phone. "Hello; Lazinski residence."
"Hello? Who's this?" The caller asks, "Is Beth there?"
"No; she's not in now. I'm Cindy. I'm staying with the Lazinski's for a little while. Can I take a message?"
"I'm her cousin, Trish; is everything okay out there? Beth and I spoke before and she mentioned that she was having some problems with the house; so to speak."
"I know exactly what you're talking about, Trish. That's what I'm doing out here; trying to help resolve this matter."
"And, what matter would that be, Cindy?"
"Their haunting."
"What?" Trish is shocked. "Haunting? God, I knew there was something wrong with that house! What's going on out there?"
"It's a little complicated to explain now; but, I'm sure Beth will fill you in later when things unfold out here. Sorry there's not much more I could tell you now. So, what's the message?"
"The message? Oh, yeah…tell Beth I was able to go a little further back with that house's history; and, found out some more about that place."
"Like what?"
"I'm sorry; Cindy, is it?"
"Yes."
"What's it exactly you're doing out there to help my cousin?"
"I'm trying to make contact with whatever it is haunting this place, to find out what's happening and why. If there's anything you can tell me about the history of this house, I'd sure appreciate it. It may help me out in solving this thing."
"Well, I'm sure by now Beth must have told you about the seventeen families that disappeared from that house; hasn't she?"
"Yes."
"Beth was telling me about some serial killings occurring out in the area. Cindy, I also suppose she told you that the last murder out there happened in that house."
"That would be another yes."
"Well; do you know that back in 1956, that place use to be known as Johnston farm?"
"Yeah. Were you able to find out anything else?"
There's a moment of silence as Trish takes in a breath. "Okay; one last thing. Did you know that from 1908 until 1955, that place use to be the site of a mental institution that housed the criminally insane?"
"No; that we didn't know. That would explain why this property is so isolated though."
"Cindy, tell me; is my cousin and her family in danger out there?"
Cindy hesitates before answering. "It's a touchy situation out here, Trish; Professor Rhyies and I are trying to handle this without things getting out of hand."
"Professor Rhyies? Who's he?"
"He's a college professor from Boston University who specializes in paranormal psychology."
"Paranormal psychology? Wait a minute; what's going on out there? Please, tell me!"
"I'm sorry, Trish; it's like I said before, it's too complicated to explain everything at this time. We're still not even sure about everything yet; and, we're out here. I'll tell Beth you called, and have her call you back; then, the two of you could talk, okay?"
"Yeah, sure; just have Beth give me a call as soon as she gets in."
"I will…promise."
"Cindy?"
"Yes, Trish?"
"Promise me you'll look out for Beth, Martin and Anna? Please."
"I will. We all will. Bye."
"Thank you. Goodbye."
Martin's gathering the food when Anna starts screaming hysterically.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!"
Martin drops the bags in the back seat and turns to Anna; who jumps in his arms and starts squeezing so tight that he's having difficultly breathing. He manages to pry her arms from around his chest; still holding onto her wrists to keep her from hurting herself as she flails about in the vehicle.
"Anna! Anna, it's Daddy! Calm down, Anna! Calm down!"
Anna stops screaming and flailing about as her arms become rigid, locking in place; and, her whole body starts trembling. Her eyes are wide open and appear to be about three times their normal size. She begins to hyperventilate.
Martin calls out, "Help! Anyone; I need help out here!"
Cindy comes running out and sees Martin holding onto a terrified Anna. "Martin, what happened?"
"I don't know; we just got back, and I was getting the food from the back seat when Anna started freaking out."
Cindy places her hands on Anna's cheeks, turning her face towards hers. "Anna, Honey, it's Cindy. Anna, what's wrong?"
Anna continues hyperventilating; trembling in a state of shock. Cindy attempts to get Anna's attention again; this time jostling her while shouting at her. "Anna! Anna! It's Cindy, Honey! What's wrong baby?"
There's still no response.
Just then, Deputy Hopkins pulls up in his patrol car; and, Cindy runs over calling to him, "Uncle Mike, hurry! It's Anna!" She turns and runs back; with Deputy Hopkins running behind her.
