Chapter85 Anna Awakens
Anna's in a catacomb; which lies about thirty some odd feet under the property. It's been there since the time of the monastery; and, it was in this very room that the monks would perform their satanic rituals.
Anna's body lies on an altar built upon a dais in the center of what once was the sacrificial chamber. A giant pentagram's drawn on the floor from the blood of those sacrificed; while the walls have spells and incantations inscribed on them…also in their blood. The chamber's dimly lit with small oil-filled lanterns placed around the altar; illuminating the slumbering Anna.
And, while her hibernating, listless body lies upon the altar in the sacrificial chamber; Anna's aimlessly wandering about that large, old house in her mind…searching for a way out. She's inching her way down the darkened corridor with her hands extended out; used as ‘feelers' as she moves about. The lights come on, and she rubs her aching eyes; trying to focus them on the recently illuminated corridor. She prepares herself for another imminent visit; which usually occurs when the lights come on.
Anna sees Mary and Davey standing at the other end of the hallway; and, they smile at each other as she walks toward them. Anna stops a few feet in front of the two, demanding, "I want to see my parents!"
Mary replies, "I'm afraid that isn't possible, Anna."
"Why not?"
"Because; they're gone."
Anna's confused. "What do you mean they're gone, Mary?"
"They moved away; and, they're not coming back, Anna."
Anna vehemently disputes Mary's claim, "You're lying! They wouldn't leave without me!"
"I'm not lying, Anna; they did leave."
"Why?"
"Because, I told your mom you were dead; and, that they better go before they're killed."
"Why did you lie to my mom, Mary?!"
"I didn't lie to your mom, Anna."
"Yes you did! You told her I was dead! I'm not dead!"
"Oh, but you are dead, Anna."
"Nuh uh!"
"Uh huh," Mary mocks Anna. "Why do you think it's always dark here, Anna? Why weren't you able to find anyone else? How come you can't leave the house?"
Anna stands there in momentary silence before she shrugs her shoulders ever so slightly and somberly sighs, "I don't know."
Mary sinisterly grins as she raises her eyebrows ever so slightly and replies, "You don't know? I tell you why…because, you're dead; that's why."
Anna bites down on her bottom lip while staring down at the hardwood floor; trembling, as tears run down her cheeks. Then it dawns on her, "Mary, I can't be dead; you said I'd have to use the shovel to kill someone…and, if I didn't; then, I'd be killed. That didn't happen yet."
"Yes it did, Anna; you just don't remember."
"No it didn't; you're lying again, Mary. I'm not dead…and my parents aren't gone."
Mary and Davey look at each other; then, he walks away. Mary angrily scowls at Anna and huffs, "You see what you did now, Anna? You upset Davey. Why do you have to go and ruin everybody's fun?"
"I want to be back with my parents, Mary! Let me go!"
"My; aren't we a pushy, little bitch! You know something, Anna; you're almost as bad as Chelsea was…almost."
Anna looks around, and asks, "Where am I, Mary?"
Mary looks around, and chuckles, "You're in your house, Anna; don't you recognize it?"
Anna shakes her head. "No."
"No…you don't recognize it, Anna?"
"No…I'm not in the house; you're trying to trick me, Mary. Where am I?"
Mary gets short with Anna and snaps, "You're in your house, bitch!"
Anna snaps back, "No I'm not…bitch!"
At that moment, Mary disappears; and, everything becomes dark again. Anna's motionless, breathing rapidly as her heart pounds in her chest; then, she gasps and jumps up.
She's temporarily blinded by the light in the room…even though it's dimly illuminated…as her eyes try to refocus from being closed for the past several days. Anna's awoken from her coma; finding herself sitting on the altar in the chamber; with Jean-Louise Wadell beside her.
