Chapter 36 Elevator Thriller
Joe pulled up his mother, who wanted to lean down and take another look at her husband, and followed the two Edward's, who had already rushed out, outside, before a burst of gunfire was heard.
A bloodied thug tried to open the car door and was shot dead on the spot by a rushing Edward, who quickly rushed to the door of the shuttle and jumped in, followed by Elina, who jumped into the passenger seat.
'Hey, this is my car!" Joe shouted from behind.
'Cut the crap and get in." Elina shouted as she poked her head out.
After these two mothers and children got into the car, Edward started the car and drove towards Star Harbor.
Along the way, Elina constantly spoke to comfort the two poor people who had lost their loved ones, the two people were already numb by this sudden blow, sitting in the backseat, after a long time Joe said, 'Which planet are you taking us to?"
Elina said, 'We are going on our honeymoon, we came to Toronto just on the way to refill our energies, you and Auntie can follow us until we meet your favorite planet."
Joe bowed his head and said, 'So how much do you guys want?"
'Just put Auntie in charge of cooking for us, this Edward guy cooks just fine." Elina said with a smile.
Elina's kind gesture eventually pierced through the two's already numb emotional protection, striking at the softest part of their hearts.
Joe's mother was the first to remove her mental defenses and burst into tears, followed by bawling, and Joe finally let go of his last shred of defense and hugged his mother, the two of them crying into a ball.
Every now and then a few shuttles flew by at high speed in the sky made up of a huge canopy of trees, and from time to time a few explosions came from where they flew by.
'It's bad ah, the shuttles are out, your uprising will soon be suppressed." Edward said as he looked at the shuttles that were gradually flying away.
Jo was the first to stop crying and said, 'These vampires, executioners, will we not have to leave when these damned rebels are put down?"
Joe's mother raised her hand and slapped her son across the face, saying, 'Get it through your head, the ones who killed your father, were mobs, a very small minority who took advantage of the fire, the Resistance is organized and has a purpose, who do you think they are risking their lives fighting for?"
Edward looked in the rearview mirror at Joe, who had his head bowed in deep thought, and said, 'Auntie's right, who do you think they're risking their lives fighting for?"
There were constant explosions coming out of the entire Giant Tree Metropolis, and Edward sped up the car once again, trying to rush out of this chaotic situation.
'Edward, what is that?" Elina asked, pointing at the bright spots that were vaguely glittering in the sky that were vaguely leaking between the tree canopies.
'It's a troop carrier, it's broken through the stratosphere." Edward looked at it and gave an accurate explanation.
Finally, they arrived at the starport, and several people quickly made their way through the halls to the starport's space elevator, Edward pressed a few buttons and found that the elevator was shut down at that point, and asked, 'Elina, can you handle this?"
'No problem." After Elina finished speaking, she handed the gun in her hand to Edward, drew a thin wire on her wrist communicator, inserted it into the lock hole of the electronic lock of the space elevator, and busied herself on the communicator.
Within a few moments the elevator opened and she stepped into it, opening the key control panel inside the elevator to look through the pile of wires, 'You guys go in first." Edward gestured for Joe to go into the elevator first with his aunt, himself standing guard at the door with his gun in both hands.
Elina nimbly wrapped the thin wire drawn from the communicator around one of the leads and in no time the elevator was activated.
The elevator gradually accelerated and Edward said, 'In a moment all stand behind me and move with me, if I walk you walk, if I stop you stop, if I get down you get down, Joe, do you know what type of starport this one is?"
Joe replied, 'It's a civilian port for tourism."
'That's good, there better not be many people," Edward added right after, "Elina you use the Silver Dragon to see if the elevator door openings are guarded."
Elina wired up the surveillance equipment on the Silver Dragon and looked in this direction of the space elevator exit, then said, 'There's a guy to the right of the door holding something like a stick."
'Are the guys still surrounding the hatch of the Silver Dragon?" Edward asked as he put his head over and said.
'Four of them, still prying there." Elina looked at the guy with the crowbar prying hard at the hatch and felt good and funny.
'Have the AI send out a warning and see if we can chase them off, we'll keep out of harm's way if we can." Edward said.
Elina sent instructions to the AI, and the AI's warning voice followed the video feed, 'Warning, this is private property, please stay away from this ship, warning, this is private property, please stay away from this ship."
The few people in the video first froze, and then pried harder, all the while yelling, 'Let us in!"
As the elevator inched closer to the top floor, the acceleration stopped, but the deceleration that should have followed was slow in coming, and since they were already near the warmer layers of the atmosphere, the gravitational pull began to weaken.
Weightlessness set in and the group wobbled and floated, several people slowly looked at each other, horrified expressions creeping onto their faces.
'Why isn't the artificial gravity system working?" Edward asked.
Elina watched the monitor as the guys prying at the door began to slowly float away, one guy drifting towards an empty berth in the opposite direction because he pried too hard, causing him to wail in the air in a hurry.
A few other guys didn't turn out much better, without artificial gravity, the gases gathered inside the starport soon began to overflow, and this sudden pressure difference killed a few people on the spot.
'Crap! They shut down the starport's energy supply!" Elina said anxiously.
Edward said hurriedly, 'Show me the drawings of the Starport's space elevator! Hurry up, the elevator won't slow down anymore, we'll all crash and die in it at this rate."
Elina pulled up the drawings and zoomed in on the part Edward wanted to see, she looked at the increasing height and slightly predicted the speed, realizing that there was no chance of the crowd surviving the impact in this case, and was sweating anxiously.
Edward looked at the drawings and suddenly had a flash of insight and said, 'Quick! Get the Silver Dragon moving, activate the main guns, attack this location, blow a gap in the elevator's ascending passage, and let's rush out.
The elevator's passage is vacuumed, so this elevator compartment must be sealed, we'll be able to hold out in space for a few minutes, let the Silver Dragon maintain a good relative speed to pick us up with its mechanical claws!"
Elina was a bit hesitant and said, 'I don't know if the Silver Dragon's AI is capable of making such delicate maneuvers, anything that goes wrong and we're dead."
Edward held Elina's hand and said, 'I believe you can do it, that's the ai you made, there must be no problem." After saying that, he took Elina into his arms and kissed her forehead.
Where Joe and his mother duo cared about eating dog food, when they heard Edward's plan, the two of them hugged each other in fear, crouching in a corner of the elevator and chanting something with their hands clasped together.
Elina steadied herself and told the AI the instructions one by one, the berth's stance had long since expired and the Silver Dragon slowly rose up and fired a salvo at a location on the top of the starport before adjusting its orientation and preparing to take its position.
A vibration came from the elevator silo that was itself suspended in the elevator shaft as the salvo rubbed slightly against it, before stabilizing under the residual electromagnetic force.
'Protect your mother, Jo, it's going to be a rush out." Edward said stopping Elina merely in his arms.
Joe followed suit, but his slightly smaller size couldn't shield his mother properly, and he looked from side to side, hoping to find a place to lend a hand.
Just then the space elevator rose to its apex.
Without the end of the passageway, the entire space elevator shaft resembled a vacuum electromagnetic cannon tube eight hundred kilometers in length, accelerating the electromagnetic cannonball that was the elevator silo to a terrifying planetary third-universe velocity.
The elevator silo broke through Toronto's gravitational restraints and flew towards the star ocean at breakneck speed.
Unfortunately, a section of nanofiber leaking out of the exit blocked the elevator silo's path.
This section of nanofibers added a lateral force to the discharged projectile, causing the elevator silo to suddenly change direction like a tennis ball that had rubbed the net, spinning around and flying towards the star ocean.
Edward and the rest of them fell in a heap in the space elevator as they cup this sudden tumble, Joe's mother couldn't even adjust to the sudden centrifugal force and fainted.
The others didn't fare much better, as the unexpected centrifugal force threw their blood to one end of their bodies.
Edward and Elina's eyeballs were bleeding from their capillaries, and both of their eyes were red.
Joe had a direct lack of cerebral blood supply, and was staring dryly, his eyes so lax that he couldn't see anything clearly.
On Elina's communicator, the monitor feed was still live streaming the AI's operations.
'Analyzing target speed, analyzing target orbit, analyzing target rotation speed."
