Farewell Nicole
In the elegant Hudson family mansion, Nicole faced her father, George Hudson. Her request hung heavily in the air, like a fragile bridge to avoid the impending storm. The emotions in the room were palpable.
"Dad, please. For my own sake, spare Harris from your revenge. Let him and the Thompson Empire be," Nicole said in a determined yet pleading tone.
George Hudson, a powerful and imposing figure, hesitated for a moment, his brows furrowed. It was clear that he wasn't pleased with Nicole's request.
"Nicole, you know how much he humiliated me during our last meeting, and now you are dragged into the mud for wanting to protect him. After all we've been through, you're asking me to spare him?"
Nicole stood her ground, despite the turmoil in her heart. She knew she had to do this for her own peace and for Harris. "Dad, please. It's my only request before I leave for Paris and start a new life."
Anna Hudson, Nicole's mother, watched the exchange with tear-filled eyes. She had always been the emotional buffer in the family, and now her daughter was determined to leave. "Nicole, please, stay," she said, sobbing. "We can work this out. You don't have to leave."
Nicole's heart ached for her mother. She walked over to embrace her and stroked her back to console her mom. "Mom, I love you, but I need to do this," she said, her voice gentle and reassuring. "It's the right thing. I'll be fine, and we'll see each other, I promise."
George Hudson, despite his initial reluctance, saw the determination in Nicole's eyes. It was a reflection of his own strong-willed character.
"Fine, Nicole. I'll honor your request. But don't think this means I've forgiven him."
Nicole nodded, grateful for this small victory. With a heartfelt smile, she said, "Thank you, Dad." She hugged her Dad, which was heartfelt.
"You take care of yourself while you're away from us. If you need anything, you call me," George said, his voice devoid of emotion. He has been this way ever since, which is why Nicole was used to it.
"I know, Dad. I'll call you and Mom whenever I can. I'll just have to do things on my own and find my greater purpose in life."
George heaved a deep breath. He finds it boring hearing his daughter's reasoning, but he can't do anything after Nicole makes up her mind. "Alright, you do what you have to."
Nicole knew her Dad softened a little bit even if he wouldn't tell her. Her father knew his mistakes, but he had too much pride to ask for forgiveness. Nicole chose to forgive her father as her way of moving on to a fresh start.
"Thanks, Dad. Promise me, you'll take care of Mom while I'm away."
"Oh, Nicole, you don't have to remind me. Your Mom has never hurt ever since she was with me when we first dated." That's how much George Hudson likes to brag about his capabilities. He can protect or destroy whoever he wants to.
Well, one thing is certain, George Hudson is madly in love with his wife, Anna, even after 30 years of marriage; they are stronger than ever before.
"Great! Now, I am confident in leaving you two."
"Nicole, are you not changing your mind anymore?" Anna stood on Nicole's side. This time, she was calmer and accepted her daughter's decision
"Yes, Mom. I'm leaving this evening after visiting some friends."
"Do you really have to meet Harris?" George chimed in.
"Dad, how did you know?"
"I know how you think, Nicole. You are in this phase of asking forgiveness from all people of the entire city; like this is some kind of a deal where you get a reward at the end. If you get a billion in each forgiveness I wouldn't mind you doing it."
"Dad, this is nothing about money. This is about peace of mind. Besides, I will not only meet Harris but Mallory as well. I have made them miserable for the past months, so it's time I ask for forgiveness."
"Damn it, Nicole. Why are you meeting that poor Mallory?"
"Dad, please..."
"Fine! Meet them if you must," George said sternly.
Though Mallory was never Nicole's friend she was hoping, Mallory could consider forgiving her for what she did. Both Mallory and Harris were surprised by Nicole's unannounced visit and they reluctantly invited her inside.
"Mallory, Harris, I don't want to waste your time. I am here to apologize for everything I did to both of you before I left tonight."
With a warm yet slightly cautious smile, Harris spoke. "Nicole, we appreciate your apology. We know it wasn't easy for you to say this. It's time for all of us to move forward."
"Yes, Nicole. We believe in giving people a chance to change. It's the only way we can find peace and move towards a better future," Mallory seconded with sympathy.
Nicole was taken aback. She had expected them to be distant, if not outright hostile. The sincerity in their voices touched her deeply. "You... you're forgiving me? After all I've done?" Nicole said with a hint of disbelief.
Harris nodded. "Yes. We want a peaceful relationship too, Nicole. We've all made mistakes. Forgiveness is the only way forward."
Nicole's eyes welled up with tears. She hadn't anticipated this kind of response.
"Life is too short to hold onto grudges. Let's all work towards a better future, starting with forgiveness," Mallory said, gentle and understanding.
Nicole embraced them, her heart heavy with gratitude. "Thank you, both of you. You have no idea what this means to me," she said tearfully. "Harris you don't have to worry about my Dad, I've talked to him," she added as she was wiping her tears.
"You didn't have to. You know, I realized I've made a mistake as well. I stepped on your Dad's boundary by exposing him," Harris paused. He didn't want Nicole to be reminded of the infertility issue. "Let's just forget about it, anyway."
"As we should," Nicole agreed. "That's how I'm handling all the remaining issues about me. Letting them die! People will get tired of it and then they'll stop, especially when new issues come. I'm done answering all their questions. It's time to start creating a new chapter of my life."
As Nicole prepared to leave for Paris, she knew she was embarking on a journey to find her own path and rebuild her life. And in making this difficult decision, she had also, in a way, spared Harris from the wrath of her father, George Hudson.
The Hudson family was undergoing a transformation, one where their daughter was breaking free, and the consequences of that decision would be felt by all.
As Nicole left for Paris, she carried with her not only her luggage but also a newfound hope. The forgiveness she had received from Harris and Mallory was like a beacon in her life, guiding her toward a more peaceful and promising future. Their conversations weighed on her mind, like a storm that had finally found a calm.
"Mom, stop crying," Nicole hugged her mom to console her. "I'll be fine. I'll call you whenever I can." Nicole couldn't count how many times she had to remind her mom about these things.
"I am your mother, Nicole. You can't stop me from crying and worrying about you." Anna Hudson hugged her daughter for the last time before boarding the plane.
The departure gate at the airport was a place of many farewells and beginnings. Nicole stood there, with a heavy heart, ready to board her flight to Paris on a private jet. Her Dad insisted she use one of their private jets and she couldn't say no.
Lastly, Nicole is confident Dominic and Marian will get their share of karma soon enough, and she is happy knowing she contributed a little in the hope of stopping their connivance.
