CHAPTER 144; Court

Kim Gonzalo! A direct trainee under Li Guang the wizard of law! He was said to follow in the steps of his boss and has never lost a case. Behind Kim Gonzalo are two lawyers who are likely his assistant and an intern student. The Magistrate walked in exactly the time the case was to begin. Everyone stood up until the magistrate took his seat again. Derek stood up and introduced himself as the attorney for Lu Jingli. Kim smiled and introduced himself as representing Theresa Mo. They sat around a roundtable and the magistrate began the case. Lu Jingli has complained about his wife Theresa Mo who left home a few years ago and refused to return despite pleas from her husband. According to him, Thereso left after she was caught having affairs with her lover. That infuriated her husband and she, feeling too guilty to return home, was separated from her husband. But after years of separation, the husband had urged her to return home but she wouldn't. She even went ahead and gave birth to two kids for her lover. And unfortunately, her lover is a hooker who can't take care of her. And being forgiven by her husband, she refused to return home. Kim Gonzalo was quiet. Then Theresa Mo was asked if she agreed with everything said. " There's no truth in all that has been said. Lu Jingli and I are divorced" Theresa Mo answered simply. Derek bowed slightly before the magistrate and asked that Theresa Mo provide evidence of their divorcement if she claims she's divorce with his client. When asked, Theresa Mo said she has no evidence of her divorcement with Lu Jingli because she was on the hospital bed when his lawyer brought the papers for her to sign… Derek twisted it and said she was not telling the truth. Because the marriage certificate for the both of them was in his clients custody. He came along with it as evidence. If They were indeed divorced, there should be a divorce certificate to that effect. And if traced to the bureau, their marriage still stands. Therefore his humble request is for Theresa Mo to be summoned to return to her matrimonial home and be with her lawful husband. When the defense lawyer was asked if he had anything to say, he said yes. " How long were you married to my client before the incident that made her leave her home?" Kim Gonzalo began. Lu Jingli said four months. He asked where he found Theresa Mo having affairs with her lover and he said in the hotel. He called the name of the hotel and the date the incident happened. Next he asked how he knew that his wife's lover was a hooker? Lu Jingli was lost. If he says he knows the fellow, he would lose the case. If he says he is not sure, he would be asked why he was making an assumption. Seeing that Lu Jingli couldn't answer that question, Derek answered for him " it is obvious. Who comes to the hotel to sleep with a married woman if he is not a hooker" he defended his client. Kim Gonzalo then asked if he had been a filia husband to his client within the four months they were married before the incident and Lu Jingli said yes. Kim Gonzalo adjusted his tie and looked at Lu Jingli properly before he started his defence" my client was drugged on the same date she was accused of infidelity by her supposed husband. She was helped to a hotel room by her sister,who is supposed to be Lu Jingli's sister in-law. The rest that happened became a mystery to my client because she has no idea of what happened nor who took advantage of her. She woke up the next morning to discover she was taken but by whom, she doesn't know. That was when my client lost her virginity to someone she doesn't know. How can a woman be married to a man who doesn't have a problem psychologically, bodily and health wise and not consummate his wedding with her for four months?" The Magistrate shifted his medicated glasses down to his nostril and looked at Theresa Mo and Lu Jingli before readjusting the glasses again. Derek seemed to dust off an invisible dirt on his suit. He was nervous already. There was already a loophole. But finding fault, he demanded " You can't assume that my client drugged his wife without any evidence. Which man does that to his wife?" Derek objected. " Exhibit number one" Kim Gonzalo said and his assistant immediately produced a disk drive and he presented it to the magistrate. He labelled it and put it aside. Derek became uncomfortable. They are losing already. "On that day, my client just recovered from an unconscious state she was thrown into by Lu Jingli and his mother by their inhuman treatment. While there, Derek brought a divorce papers to her to sign with threats. She signed it. How could my learned colleague make a sick woman sign a divorce paper on the hospital bed and not give her a divorce certificate? My client was restrained from stepping into her home where she lived with Lu Jingli and hence she was left with nothing other than the clothes she has on. But I know why my learned colleague hastened the divorce. Because a few hours later that day, Lu Jingli got married to my client's sister. She was the same woman who helped my client into the hotel room after being drugged by her husband. This is a clear indication that my client was set up by her ex-husband and her sister to get her out of her home so the two can be married.."Kim Gonzalo accused. He stretched his hand and said " exhibit number 2" and his assistant brought a duplicate copy of Lu Jingli and Tiana's wedding certificate. "Few years later, Lu Jingli divorced Tiana Mo, my client's sister. In Fact recently to be precise and wants to take advantage of her inability to get the divorce certificate to twist the entire incident in his favor" Kim Gonzalo declared. "Exhibit number 3" he stretched his hand and his assistant gave him the third piece of evidence which is the duplicate copy of the divorce certificate of Lu Jingli and Tiana Mo. "Now he wants her back and my client refused. He wants her kids and intends to force her back as his wife. Does that speak well of a gentle man? I want justice for my client and that has to be decided here. She must be compensated with a sum of Two hundred million yuan!" Kim Gonzalo demanded. Derek has no answer to say. He was tongue tied. He knew Kim Gonzalo was always having evidence before embarking on any case. He had lost. Well, Lu Jingli would have to bear his cross. If he had known that within such a short time, Theresa Mo would be able to get all the evidence and hired the renowned Kim Gonzalo, he wouldn't have taken up the case. The evidence was played before them and they saw Lu Jingli adding a pill into Theresa's drink and offered it to her. Lu Jingli felt his heart beat skip. Wasn't every evidence destroyed? This evidence is enough to destroy his claim completely. He should have thought about evidence concerning his marriage with Tiana Mo. Where on Earth will he get a sum of Two hundred million to compensate her ? He was waiting for the final pronouncement of the magistrate. Perhaps he would show him leniency.
