Mystery
Nicole Jane's POV
'I still couldn't believe of what happened. It seemed like some kind of kidnapping case," Mikan said out of the blue.
None of the three of us commented on what she said because we were all deep in thought.
We are now on our way back to the academy. I looked outside the window, while Kyle's resting his head on the car window on the other side. Kira's focused on driving, and Mikan's busy doing something on her phone.
After the incident earlier, Kyle quickly pulled me out. When I turned around, I saw Mikan being pulled by Kira. I didn't notice him earlier.
These friends are really weird because they suddenly appear out of nowhere. They're like Miley and Reiri.
As we stepped out, they looked around as if searching for something. I did the same, even though I didn't know what or who I was looking for. Until my attention focused on a man.
He's standing in front of a post far away from us and wearing a hoodie. I couldn't see his face.
But I'm sure he's looking at us. Then I suddenly realized that Kyle had already pushed me into the car. When I looked back at the spot where I saw the mysterious man standing, he was no longer there.
I don't know why, but there's something about him that caught my attention.
I took a deep breath. Honestly, I also thought about what Mikan said earlier.
Kidnapping? She has a point there. But even if we assume that there are many people involved in such a thing, it still seems impossible for them to do it so quickly and without leaving any trace. If you think about it carefully, you'll realize that an ordinary person couldn't do something like that.
Another thing bothering me is who their real target is. Or maybe they just take whoever they can get? What if the person they kidnapped isn't wealthy?
Then it's useless. Something was really wrong here.
'It can be, but it cannot be as well. Who knows, they might plan to use those people for other things," I said with an empty tone. I felt all three of them turn their gaze towards me.
'What do you mean by that?" Kyle asked curiously.
I shrugged at him. 'I'm just thinking of some random things."
As we approached the academy, I noticed something shimmering around it.
I sat up straight and stared at it intently. 'Do you guys see what I see?" I couldn't help but ask them. It was only now that I remembered seeing that thing before when Dad brought me here.
But since it was still early in the day back then, I thought it might just be a trick of the sunlight. But now that it's dark already, I can see it more clearly.
'Among all the things we see around, which one are you referring to?" Kyle asked sarcastically.
I gave him a disdainful look.
'Yeah, what are you talking about, Nicole?" Mikan also asked, while still playing with her phone. Maybe she's doing that to forget what had just happened.
'That sparking one. It's like a shield surrounding the entire academy. It's so cool—" I couldn't finish what I was saying because Kira suddenly hit the brakes.
Was he planning to commit suicide? If he was, well, he better not involve us!
'Why did you do that?" I asked him, annoyed, while holding onto my head. I wasn't thrown forward because Kyle immediately pulled me back. However, I bumped into the seat in front of me where Mikan was sitting.
Both Kyle and Kira widened their eyes and looked at me.
'What did you just say?" Kira asked.
Mikan also turned to look at me as if she couldn't believe it. She wasn't startled because Kira quickly caught up with her. But it seems like she just dropped her phone on the floor.
Well, it's not a problem for her though. She can afford to buy as many cellphones as she wants.
I rolled my eyes. 'As I was saying, this school was pretty cool. It has a shield that I don't know where it's made from. Technology nowadays is really advanced. Somehow, I can say that the expensive tuition our parents pay here is worth it."
Their jaws literally dropped at what I said. I raised an eyebrow because of their reaction.
Did I say something wrong?
Mikan broke the awkward silence. 'Are you really okay now, Nicole? It seems like you've been traumatized by what happened earlier, and now you're seeing things."
I was even more surprised when she leaned closer to me and shook my shoulders, almost making me dizzy. Then she even touched my forehead.
'Hey, stop it!" I glared at her and she just pouted.
'I'm not just saying random things. I swear, I can see it right now!" I even pointed to show them how vast its coverage is.
Why didn't they want to believe, and why couldn't they see what I saw?
They followed my gaze and Mikan just shook her head. Worry was evident on her face as she turned to me.
'Nicole, we don't see anything at all. Could it be that you're possessed?" She then covered her mouth with both hands.
I looked at her in disbelief. We're living in the 21st century, and she still believes in that?
I glanced at Kyle and Kira, who had been silent all this time. Their faces remained blank, their eyes fixed on me with a dull expression.
'What about you? Don't tell me you don't see anything either?" I asked them, unable to believe it.
Kira looked away and resumed driving, while Kyle continued to stare at me intently. I began to feel uncomfortable and was the first to avert my gaze. It was as if he could read my thoughts, although I doubted he actually could.
'If I were you, I would just sleep it off. You could also try getting your eyes checked. It seems like it's getting worse," Kyle said apathetically.
I make faces. It's frustrating because he's always like that. Was he conceived in bitterness?
I know what I was seeing was real. But why was I the only one experiencing these things? All these strange events only started happening after my debut.
I sighed in defeat. I can't insist on something I can't prove. Maybe they're already thinking that I'm crazy.
'Maybe you're right. Maybe I just imagined the disappearance of those people earlier as well," I whispered.
Just then, our ride stopped outside our dormitory building. I was about to step out when Kyle's cold hand stopped me.
'You saw what happened earlier?" His face darkened, and his grip tightened.
I glanced briefly at Kira and Mikan outside. They're giving us a confused look. I looked at Kyle again.
'Why? Did you see that too?"
His jaw clenched.
I desperately tried to remove my arm from his grip. 'Let go! It hurts already!" I shouted at him.
He seemed startled by his own actions and quickly released me. I winced as I saw the reddened area where he held me.
'I just asked. You may go now," he said bluntly, then leaned back and closed his eyes.
I was dumbfounded by his behavior. After he hurt me, that was all?
Due to a rush of emotions, I hit him on the face before storming out of the car. Mikan quickly led me away ignoring Kyle furiously calling out my name.
Serves him right. No one has ever hurt me without paying for it.

Kyle Ethan's POV
'What? How the hell did she see the ward?" Vince asked, confused.
We are currently in the mansion's living room. We happened to catch the four of them here, so we mentioned everything that happened earlier. Kira also mentioned that he couldn't figure out who was responsible for the power outage.
But maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the punch Nicole gave me. They just laughed at me as if it didn't matter. Every time I remember what happened, I can't help but feel annoyed.
She's the first one to hit me like that. Aside from Miley, of course. But why did she specifically target my face?
She should be thankful I restrained myself from retaliating earlier. I'm the prince of our clan, for crying out loud! And I'm just going to get punched by someone?
'But it's especially made by the white witches that can only be seen by us, the vampires," Miley added, slumping onto the table, mimicked by Reiri. They looked like a pair of twin siblings.
'You also mentioned that she saw what you saw in the supermarket?" Hiro asked, and I simply nodded at him. That particular issue is also bothering me.
'That girl is really a big mystery to us," Vince intertwined his hands. 'Do you think she's an enemy?"
That made me pause. The thought of Nicole being an enemy pained my chest. I don't think I could accept that if it turns out to be true.
'No!" Miley and Rei shouted in unison.
'How can you be so sure?" Vince raised a brow at them.
The eyes of the two immediately turned red at him, which rarely happened. Kira and Hiro quickly intervened.
'Hey, calm down. I can't believe that you guys are fighting just because of a human," Hiro scratched the back of his neck.
Reiri glared at him. These two never really get along, while I, on the other hand, am content just watching them.
'Nicole is not just a human. She's our friend! And we believe she's not an enemy. Even if strange things are happening to her now, we're sure she doesn't have any knowledge about it," she stomped her feet in frustration.
'I feel the same way. We all know she's a human. But we also can't deny the fact that there's something truly different about her that makes her special. She's not just an ordinary person," Kira explained.
'Who and what is she, really?" Vince ran his hand through his hair.
We all fell silent. It's rare for us to be together in such a serious atmosphere. Well, this is really a serious matter to be discussed.
'I have an idea!"
Miley stood up with a smile, as if a light bulb lit up above her head. Her index finger pointed upward. Just a while ago, her nose was almost fuming with anger.
Mood swings.
But I couldn't help but smile when I read what she was thinking. 'That's a good idea. Why didn't I think of that?"
Vince nodded in understanding.
'Can you share your thoughts with us?" Hiro asked sarcastically.
He shifted his gaze among the three of us. They had no idea because they didn't have the ability to read others' minds. Even if they did, they wouldn't be able to read the minds of us— purebloods. Reiri, on the other hand, couldn't activate this kind of ability yet.
To be honest, she hasn't shown any kind of special ability yet. But I'm pretty sure that one day she'll surprise all of us, just like her brother Vince. We were surprised one day when he suddenly moved objects in the mansion.
But she also trained herself in using weapons.
I stood up and buried my hands inside my pockets. 'We're going to the main library at the palace. It's probably where we can find the answers to our questions."
They nodded excitedly. 'Finally, I can do something meaningful today," Hiro smirked.
As we stepped outside, we all seemed to have disappeared into the unknown.

Third Person's POV
In a high and hidden place stands a palace. Here resides the king and queen of the vampire clan.
No human can enter and see this place unless they have been personally invited or are one of the protectors.
Just like now. The king and queen were both laughing, while talking to the two humans in front of them.
'I can't wait for the appointed day of their union," the king smiled and sipped from his chalice filled with red liquid.
Their visitors chuckled. 'We feel the same way. Especially since it seems like they already know each other," the female visitor said with a smile. She gently rested her head on her spouse's shoulder.
The queen sighed. 'You're right. But I'm still afraid of how they might react. What if they don't understand each other and don't get along?" She worriedly glanced at her spouse, as if he didn't seem concerned at all.
The king looked outside the window and stared at the moon. It was bright and round that night. 'Perhaps they won't understand each other at first. But is it possible that they won't like each other?" He shrugged and chuckled lightly.
'I doubt it," he said with confidence.
'I agree with you, King Zachary Clarkson," the man in front of him said with a smile. They clinked their wine glasses together, creating a crisp sound.
The king was about to take a sip when he suddenly stopped. His companions noticed it immediately.
'Is there a problem, King Zach?"
The man became alert and quickly surveyed his surroundings. They were considered a friendly couple of the king and queen, but that didn't mean they would neglect their duties.
The king suddenly burst out laughing, causing the two people in front of him to furrow their brows. They didn't understand what was happening.
But the queen quickly realized the reason behind the king's behavior.
After a moment, the king stood up and turned to the visiting couple. 'I'm sorry about that. It's just that the new set of visitors are now on their way to the palace."
The couple and the queen immediately stood up. 'In that case, we won't stay any longer. I don't think this is the right time for him to see us," the man respectfully said, followed by his wife as they turned to pay their respects to their superiors.
The king nodded understandingly. They both had the same thought. 'I understand. Until our next meeting."
They smiled and nodded to the couple before they finally left. They didn't consider them as different. Especially since they would also be their family in the future.
'What do you think is the reason for their sudden visit here?" The queen suddenly became serious. She didn't need to ask who would be coming. She already knows who they are.
The king looked at her with a smile and gently stroked her smooth face. They have been living in the world for a long time, but she still remains attractive in the eyes of her husband, and her beauty is still as radiant as ever. The queen couldn't help but close her eyes due to her husband's gesture.
The king is like that too. Despite the many years that have passed, he still looks handsome and charming. You wouldn't even think that they already have children. Because they themselves look like the same age as them due to their youthful appearance.
'They have begun to take their own steps," the king replied in a low voice as he traced his hand down his wife's neck.
The queen continued to keep her eyes closed, savoring each touch of her husband.
'What are we going to do now?" The queen bit her lower lip as she feels him kissing her neck. Her husband hasn't really changed.
'You have nothing to worry about. I'll take care of it. Because it's not yet the right time for them to know everything," the king said with finality before he claimed his wife's soft lips.
