Chapter 29
"This Chicken Parmesan is amazing, Ms. Huntington" I thank the lady, effectively breaking the awkward silence between the three of us
Just like she promised earlier, she came upstairs and invited me down for dinner when all of the food was cooked.
At first I was confused when she woke me up but it wasn't long before everything hit me in the face like a ton of bricks.
She kept a respectful smile on her face the whole time, but I knew that she had some questions for me.
It is her nature, she is nosey like me.
Possibly even nosier than me.
"Thank you, dear" she replies happily before going back to her half eaten Chicken Parmesan
Okay, now it is awkward again.
I stare down at mine, which I have barely touched, only to place my metal fork down on the glass plate.
It's not that the food is terrible because believe me, it's not.
It's because of my decreased appetite.
The same thing happened when Chadley broke up with me.
Plus, I have been extremely nauseous since we left my house.
I may be less nauseous if I ate those saltine crackers that Chadley offered me earlier.
"Are you done? I'll take your plate" Chadley offers not waiting for me to answer before grabbing my plate and scurrying off into the kitchen
Wow.
He could not have made that any more obvious.
"Idiot," Ms. Huntington mutters under her breath with an eye roll
At least she is aware.
I laugh at her comment towards her own son making her aim a genuine smile a me.
This is the first time that I have genuinely laughed in the past few hours.
It feels so good to genuinely laugh.
She delicately places her metal fork down on the table and turns to face me, gently grabbing my hands in the process.
I already know where this is going.
"Tell me, what did that boy do now?" She questions making me furrow my brows at the woman
What is she talking about?
"I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about" I tell her as I awkwardly laugh at our situation
She releases a sigh.
"This isn't the first time my son has hurt you, What did he do this time?" She questions with a worried tone of voice
Oh.
Is she worried for the answer or worried about her son?
"Chadley hasn't done anything besides be there for me" I assure her
She gives me a shocked facial expression.
"Really?" She states with a shocked tone of voice
I should explain the whole situation to her so that she can get a better understanding of the whole situation.
"Yeah, I recently caught my girlfriend cheating on me and Chadley was there to comfort me" I tell her making her smile
She still had a slight look of shock in her eyes but seemed relieved nonetheless.
"I didn't know you had a girlfriend" she teases making me blush with embarrassment
Oh my goodness.
This is embarrassing.
"Too bad you never got to meet her" I reply with a shrug as I tuck a strand of my blonde hair behind my ear
I feel like they would've gotten along.
I think of Ms. Huntington as a motherly figure.
I know that I already have two wonderful parents, but there are some things that I don't feel a hundred percent comfortable sharing with them.
She frowns at the sudden mood drop.
"You're welcomed here whenever you need a break" she assures me
I must admit that I am surprised that she does not completely resent me.
I am her sons former girlfriend after all.
"Thank you, that means a lot," I promise her
She immediately pulls me in for a tight hug which I melt into. I place my chin on her shoulder as I wrap my arms around her shoulders.
I sigh as she pulls away.
I miss my moms.
"I should go and inform my parents on this whole situation" I tell her
She nods her head understandably, silently agreeing with me.
"Tell them that I said 'hello'" she says
I nod my head at the middle aged woman before exiting the kitchen and making my way towards the staircase.
I hope that my moms understand.
Chadley's POV
"Chadley Huntington, get your butt in here!" My mom demands as Hanna disappears upstairs
Shit.
I awkwardly exit the kitchen with an innocent facial.
"Hey, momma, do you know how much I love you?" I say as I go in to give her a hug only to be pushed away
"Listen to me," she commands with a stern facial expression
I quickly nod, bowing my head to look down at my feet.
"You will not go after that girl, you have confused her time and time again" my mother whisper shouts at me
"No, mom it's not like-" I interrupt her only for her to glare at me making me quickly shut up
"Do you hear me? She has been through three heart breaks in the span of two and a half months, most of which being you!" She states
Ouch.
"Mom-" I try to interrupt again only for her to interrupt me back
"If you interrupt me one more time I will knock your wisdom teeth out for you," she threatens putting emphasis on the word 'will'
My eyes widen as I suck my lips into my mouth to protect my teeth.
"I understand that you are trying to be there for her, but do not forget that you were the one who caused her the most pain" she tells me before walking away, her heels clicking against the tile flooring
I groan as I bring a hand up to comb back my short blonde hair.
I understand where my mother is coming from, but I finally get to be the one to comfort Hanna!
Hanna finally trusts me!
I am not going to let that slip through my fingers.
-
Hanna's POV
I close the Huntington's guest room door and release a sigh.
I need to get my mind off of her.
I am not going to go through that whole two week break down, again.
That was the lowest point in my life.
I walk over to my cellphone only to notice that I have twenty seven missed calls from the person plaguing my innermost thoughts.
Aurelia fucking Kingsbury.
I roll my eyes before swiping away the notification, going into my contacts and clicking on my mom's phone number.
It rings a few times before my mom's lovely voice flows through the receiver.
"Hey, sweetheart, is everything okay?" She asks with a worried tone of voice
My parents are the sweetest people ever.
Well, to anyone in our family they are.
"Actually no" I tell her honestly
I hear her take in a sharp intake of breath.
Oh god.
Was this a bad idea?
"What's wrong? What happened?" She quickly fires out
I inhale a large breath of air before spilling what is on my chest.
"I never told you guys, but Aurelia and I were unofficially dating" I reveal making her gasp
Wow.
Now that I am saying this out loud, I realize that I have no room to be mad at her.
We were not officially dating.
She never asked me out.
I never asked her out.
We never sat down and talked about our 'relationship'.
Or whatever we had.
"Oh my goodness, honey, that's wonderful!" She exclaims with excitement
I bite my bottom lip nervously.
"Yeah" I say breathily
It is my fault.
I put myself in a situation where I knew I was going to get hurt.
And that is exactly what happened.
"Okay, I'm not seeing the problem here" she says with obvious confusion in her tone of voice
Maybe I'm not ready for a relationship.
The only other person I have dated is Chadley.
And we all know how that went.
"It's nothing, sorry for bothering you" I say as I stiffly take a seat on the bed
I think that I should take this time to work on myself.
I should be worrying about my grades and academics, not about meaningless crushes that will never go anywhere.
While my grades are not horrible, they could be better.
"Are you sure?" She asks
I am happy for Aurelia and Faith.
Sure, it may take me awhile to get used to their relationship, but if she was not happy with me then at least she will be happy with my best friend.
I should be supporting the both of them, not making them feel bad about their decision.
The heart wants what the heart wants.
"Yeah, How was your business trip?" I ask diverting the spotlight away from me
"It was fine, I just can't wait to be back with you, Haley and Isabella" she responds making me smile
Honestly, she sounds really tired and exhausted.
"I have to do some homework, but I love you mom" I tell her truthfully
"I love you too, Hanna, your mother and I should be home tomorrow afternoon in time for lunch" she tells me
We say our goodbyes before hanging up.
I'm happy for Aurelia and Faith.
I really am.
I just need a little time to get used to it.
My phone goes off making me jump. I glance down at the glass screen only to notice that it's a text message from Aurelia.
'We need to talk' it read.
I sigh, powering my cellphone off.
Thank goodness tomorrow is Saturday.
I will have all weekend to get my mind in the correct head space and spend time with my family.
-
I quickly dry my body before slipping on a pair of undergarments as well as a pair of black leggings and an oversized hoodie.
I am in the middle of pulling on my hoodie when I hear a firm knock on the door.
"Come in" I call out as I pull my hair up into a messy fan bun
The door swings open to reveal Ms. Huntington.
I smile at the woman, urging her to walk into the room.
It is her house after all.
"Hey, are you ready?" She asks sweetly
"Yep" I reply with a head nod
I walk towards the bed and grab my bag, slipping it onto my shoulder.
"Hanna, you're welcomed to come back here whenever you want" she tells me with a motherly tone of voice
I smile at the woman as she gives me a loving hug.
"I appreciate that" I reply as we pull away from each other
I assume that Chadley is still asleep as we exit the guest room and descend down the stairs.
It is currently one in the afternoon so I am hoping that my parents will be home.
I have missed my parents so much recently.
I cannot wait for all of us to be under one roof again.
"I can take that for you" Chadley offers effectively knocking me out of my thoughts
"Oh, no it's fine" I awkwardly laugh as his mom watches us from the front door
We stand there in an awkward silence before he leans in and gives me a hug. I smile as I hug him back.
"Take care of yourself, Wilder" he tells me as we pull away from each other
"Don't worry about me" I assure him with a small smile before walking past him and towards his mom
We exit the house, Chadley closing the door behind us.
Ms. Huntington and I silently walk towards her car where she unlocks the doors, allowing me to swiftly slip into the passenger side seat.
I place my bag down by my feet as I close the door, immediately buckling my seatbelt in the process.
The car ride from here to my house is not long.
I feel like it's because there is not a bunch of traffic.
She is parking in front of my house in five minutes top.
I glance at my driveway only to smile when I notice that my mothers car is parked in front of our garage.
"Thank you" I thank Ms. Huntington for the last time making her laugh
"It was no problem at all" she assures me
I unbuckle my seatbelt and open my side door. I quickly grab my bag before exiting her car, closing the door behind me.
I quickly walk around the car and make my way towards the front door.
I get halfway up the driveway before the door flies open and my sisters come running out to me.
"Hanna!" They yell in unison, their excitement obvious in their tone of voice
Awe.
"Hey," I greet with a wide smile as I kneel down so that I'm the same height as them
They tackle me in a hug making me laugh.
"How was grandma's house?" I question curiously
Haley pulls away with an eye roll.
"Boring" she states making me laugh again
"Yeah, there wasn't really much to do over there" Isabella agrees as she pulls away
I stand up from the gravel only for the both of them to grab my hands and quickly usher me towards the house.
Wow.
They are really eager to get me inside the house.
"Come on, mom just finished cooking and I'm starving!" Haley says over dramatically
This girl has a crazy imagination.
"Yeah, where were you anyway?" Isabella questions curiously as we climb the steps that lead onto the stone porch
"I was with a friend" I reply vaguely
If I were to explain my whole situation to my ten year old sister I doubt that I would get anywhere.
"Which friend?" Isabella asks
I go to answer her question only for Haley to cut me off as we enter the chaotic household.
"Mom, she's here!" The energetic five year old yells making me cringe
Okay.
That was really loud.
"Hanna!" My mom says excitedly as she places down a whisk and jogs over to me
I smile as Isabella and Haley release my hands allowing me to give mom a tight hug.
"I've missed you so much" I mutter against her shoulder making her smile
"I missed you too" she replies just as my mother walks into the kitchen
With Amanda Kingsbury?
Why is Aurelia's mom here?
"Hanna!" My mother exclaims when her eyes land on me
She rushes over to me, giving me a bone crushing hug.
"I missed you" I tell her making her laugh
"I missed you more" she tells me matter of factly
She releases her grip around me and walks over to my mom, wrapping her arms around her waist.
"Impossible" I reply honestly as I turn around to close the front door
"I hope you don't mind, but we invited Amanda to eat lunch with us today" My mom tells me
"No, I don't have a problem with it" I tell them honestly
We have had dinner with Amanda before.
Why would this one be any different?
"Aurelia has been telling me about how close you two have gotten these past few days, so I thought that I would invite her for you" Amanda tells me with an over excited tone
I instantly tense up.
Please tell me that she is kidding.
Please tell me that this is one practical big joke.
"Hey, princess" the all too familiar voice greets raspily
Aurelia fucking Kingsbury.
Are you fucking kidding me?!
