Chapter-17: Jealousy
Kane's POV:
I watched as Sya dragged her ‘cousin' Edi to her room, both arms linked with his right one. Edi's presence was boiling my blood and I couldn't keep my eyes away from where his filthy hand had been lying on her shoulder. It wasn't Sya whom I didn't trust. I trusted her with my entire existence, trusted her love. It was that stupid Edison who was making the back of my hand itch. The way he was looking at Sya, even a fool could tell he liked her.
No doubt my innocent mate had no idea her ‘cousin' was crushing on her. She was too gullible to notice stuff like that. Heck, she hadn't even realized I liked her until I said the words even though I went around slamming people into tables and trash cans for her. My rage had reached its peak when she suggested he stay in her room. Just the thought was enough to make me want to punch the dude to pieces but I refrained. And obviously, caved into Sya's puppy dog eyes. But the thought of that mutt sleeping in the same room and bed as her was making me furious.
'Why does that annoying Edi have to stay here?" Bryson hissed after the duo had left for Sya's room. 'I don't like him at all. How dare he look at Hannah? Who permitted him?"
'Tell me about it," I grumbled. 'Sya seems so excited to see him though, so I can't exactly object to his stay here."
'We'll just kick him out in the morning," Bryson said. His phone began to ring and seeing that goofy smile appear on his face by looking at the caller ID, I guessed it was Hannah. 'I need to take this. Night bro."
My thoughts were absolutely muddled with jealousy. I spent the next ten minutes sitting on the living room couch, alone, in the dark, feeling extremely restless. I could hear Sya and that mutt giggling and talking because of my super vampire hearing ability but it was nothing important. Just stuff of the past and what Edi wanted to do now that he was back.
I suddenly realized how rude I was being by eavesdropping like this and quickly walked out of the living room and went to my room. I took a shower to clear my thoughts and calm my nerves down. Once I was done, I stepped into a pair of comfy sweatpants and a t-shirt. I didn't usually wear a t-shirt to bed and mostly just went shirtless but ever since Sya started living here, I began wearing one at night in case I ever ran into her in the hall or something. I didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable seeing me half-naked. It's not what a true gentleman does.
I slid beneath the sheets and stared at the white ceiling, completely blank. I was tempted to eavesdrop again but just pushed the thought aside and turned over, tugging the sheets up to my chin. But sleep was nowhere to be seen. I kept tossing and turning for about an hour.
Whenever I closed my eyes, images of that Edi staring affectionately at my beautiful mate sleeping made my eyes pop open again. I let out a frustrated sigh before getting up and leaving the confines of my room. Before I even knew it, I was standing outside her bedroom door. There were no more noises instead I could hear Edi snoring which told me they'd gone to sleep. I paced up and down the hall a few times before finally making up my mind.
I closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath, and placed my hand on the door handle. Pushing it open, I stepped inside. The room was dark, with not a single night light switched on except for a tiny beam of moonlight coming in through the uncovered window. But since I was a vampire, I could see everything clearly even in this dark. I quietly closed the door behind me, making sure not to wake either of them up.
I crept up to the side of the bed where she was sleeping and on the other side was lying that mutt, snoring like a bear. He was sleeping strictly on his side and I nodded in approval. Good thing he was at a good distance from my girlfriend or I would've ripped him bit by bit before feeding him to the wolves. My frown was soon replaced by a look of adoration as I looked down at my mate's beautiful face. The dim moonlight was illuminating her beautiful features. She was sleeping so peacefully, like a child.
I climbed onto the bed, beside her. I was being extra careful not to wake her up and gently slid under her blanket. I couldn't keep my eyes off her, she looked that beautiful in the moonlight. I might've looked like a creep to someone outside but I was only going to stay for a bit. She suddenly stirred a bit and to my delight, wrapped her arm around my waist and nuzzled her face into my chest.
Sparks erupted everywhere as her breath tickled my chest, sending a huge wave of pleasure throughout my body. A smile crept onto my lips as I realized the position we were in. I slowly wrapped my arm around her tiny frame, pulling her closer to me. She groaned slightly before nuzzling further into my chest, putting one leg over mine.
My smile brightened further on this and I rested my chin on her head, gently stroking her hair. My smile instantly faded as my gaze fell over Edi sleeping on the other side of the bed. I carefully lifted my other leg and, without disturbing a peacefully asleep Sya in my arms, kicked that mutt's sloppy ass off the bed. He rolled over and fell on the floor with a thud.
I cursed under my breath, knowing that soon he would soon stand up, startled awake from his sleep and I'd have to leave but that never happened. I could hear him snoring on the floor now instead of the bed. The guy was a really heavy sleeper. I threw him off the bed and yet he didn't even stir.
But I was so happy there was no one to disturb us. I hugged Sya closer to me and kissed the top of her head. She smelled like lotus flowers, a scent I realized was beginning to feel like home to me. Soon, I felt myself drifting off and I fell asleep, tangled up with her. It was the most blissful sleep I had and the first one without sleeping pills, in my 74 years of life.
* * * * * * *
I opened my eyes, only to be greeted by the morning sun. I squinted to see why so much daylight was flooding into my room when I realized- this wasn't my window. Something, or rather someone moved in my arms. It was Sya. Right! I was sleeping with her in her room! I dropped my head back on the pillow. So this was what it felt like to wake up after a good sleep. For the first time ever, I had to rack my brain to know where I was because I'd always be waking up either by nightmares or from a dreamless sleep. I gazed down at her and she looked so pretty with her hair messed up and falling over her innocent face. I used my fingers to push them away, sparks erupting from the tips and ,all the way down my arms. She smiled and snuggled into me some more but I knew she was about to wake up.
She slowly half-opened her eyes and looked at me through the slits. 'Good morning," she mumbled before realizing what she was seeing. Her eyes snapped open in shock. 'Kane?!"
I smiled in response, 'Good morning."
Her eyes widened even more, if that was possible, as she took in our position. My arms wrapped around her and our legs tangled. She quickly tried to pull away but I didn't let her. She tugged at my arms but I just tightened my hold around her, making her fall on my chest again. Our faces were only an inch apart now.
"K-Kane, let me go!" She whisper-yelled. I wasn't even listening to her at this point because I was too busy taking in her beautiful face. It really was a nice sight to see first thing in the morning.
She lowered her gaze to my lips at the same time as my eyes found hers. They looked so inviting and I began to lean in. She didn't resist again, which was the best thing she could've done, and closed her eyes. But just as our mouths were about to touch, her annoying cousin sat up on the floor and literally yelled.
"Oh my God!"
Sya panicked and immediately pulled away. She looked like a tiny rabbit when she tried to scurry away. A really strong rabbit because during the scuffle, she kicked me and I fell over the side of the bed, landing on my butt on the cold floor. I groaned quietly, mentally killing Edison for the millionth time since his arrival.
"Sorry!" She quickly apologized to me. Then she turned towards Edison and waved her outstretched hands in a sort of denial. 'Edi! It isn't what it looks like. Kane just uh- dropped by to say good morning! Yeah!" she said the last bit as if she had found the greatest explanation for the position Edi had found us in this morning.
'But I didn't come in right now. I was here since last night," I said, looking directly at Edi and smirking. Sya's eyes widened as she realized what I was doing.
Edison frowned and stood up. His scowl only deepened when he saw the smirk on my face and left the room without another word. Sya was beet-red with embarrassment as she watched him leave. Then she turned around, sprawled on the bed on her stomach her legs stretched out behind her, propped her head on her elbows, and gave me a pointed look. I sat up straight, matching her gaze with mine and giving her an innocent smile.
'What?"
'What was that? And what are you doing here? And why were you in my bed?" she asked, looking at me expectantly.
For the first time, ever since I became a vampire, I was speechless. I didn't know what to say. I obviously wasn't going to tell her that I was super jealous last night and couldn't bear seeing her sleeping in the same room as the guy she thought of as her big brother. Of course, he didn't think like that was another matter. She had no idea. I remembered how she had wrapped her arms around me and snuggled close to me. A huge smile graced my face as the events of last night played through my mind.
She cleared her throat when she saw me zoning out, 'Answer."
I blinked a few times before wiping the smile off my face. I didn't want to make her angrier even though she looked so hot, 'I uh- I came in here to check up on you last night and uh- ended up, in your bed?" It came out more as a question than an answer.
'Really?" she said, not convinced at all. She tilted her head and didn't look happy at all. I laughed sheepishly and scratched the back of my neck. I suddenly felt lost. What was I supposed to say if she got mad? I did invade her private space and most people don't like that. I looked up when I heard her laughing.
"Oh God! Look at your face. It's all red!" she wheezed, covering her mouth with her hand. I couldn't help but stare. She looked absolutely radiant with the sunlight washing all over her. She cleared her throat after laughing for a good minute and pulled herself off the bed.
"We should freshen up now." She straightened her clothes and ran a hand through her hair before walking around the bed towards the door. But before she could pass by me, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her down into my lap.
"Where do you think you're going?" I said lowly into her ear. She shivered and that made me smirk. It's the effect that I had on her. I pushed her hair away from her face and leaned in, gently kissing her cheek. 'Good Morning, angel," I whispered into her ear. Her cheeks were still tinted to a deep shade of red.
"G-good morning!" she replied, turning to look at me with a small smile on her face. I kissed her forehead. 'May I go now?"
I didn't answer so she began to push herself off my lap. She had stood up a little but I yanked her back, grabbed the back of her head, and turned her face towards me, pressing my lips against hers. She was caught off guard and her eyes were wide when I pulled away.
'Now I must go," I told her, making her stand and left the room with a satisfied smile on my face.
