Chapter-20: Mate?
Kane's POV:
--Flashback--
I could barely open my eyes. I had already lost so much blood and I felt so weak. The dark figure or vampire or whatever he was, still had me gripped tightly by the neck. My body was hanging limp, still in his chokehold. The person who'd shown up earlier, Bryson, had his hand clapped around the murderer's throat.
"I told you to leave the damn boy alone!" Bryson yelled.
A sinister smile appeared on the vampire's bloodied face, 'Fine. I could use a healthy exercise before my meal." He hissed and bore his fangs to my face before letting my weak body crumble to the ground.
Bryson moved forward with the first punch but after that, they became a massive ball of blur. I tried to keep my eyes open but it was no use. I was too weak to even move. I felt so light-headed and my body felt like it weighed a ton. I let the darkness take me in after struggling against it a few times.
I don't how much later I came to, but I finally did. Groaning, I opened my eyes and looked around. A shadow was crouching near me, looking at me with concern-filled eyes. I think it was that guy Bryson. Because I can never forget the face of that bastard who killed my friends.
'Hey! Wake up," Bryson called out, shaking my shoulder slightly. 'Live boy. You have to live."
I murmured a response but I don't even know what I said. I was too weak, too tired and the idea of welcoming death seemed so appealing to me right now.
He quickly put his fingers on my neck. "Your pulse is barely there and you're so cold. I'll have to do this. I have no other choice."
I wanted to ask him what he meant but my lips refused to move. I just kept looking at him, anticipating his next move. He removed the hood from his head and I could finally see, although a little blurry, what he looked like.
To my shock, he opened his mouth and I saw them. He had them too. Those fangs. He leaned forward and I felt him sink them into my neck and felt that horrid pinch in my neck for the second time that night.
I felt all life leave my body. More like my souls float out sort-of feeling. Before darkness completely consumed me, however, I felt something hard being thrust into my palm.
--End of Flashback--
I remembered the details of the night as if it had just happened yesterday. Those horrific people and what they did to my friends, the memory was burned into my mind.
The door opened and Bryson walked in.
'I forcefully gave Hannah a sedative so she's sleeping for now. She had a real panic attack," seeing the worried look on my face, he placed a hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry. We'll find her soon."
"How do we know where he is? I mean, how did he even know where I am? Or I found my mate?" I ran a frustrated hand through my hair.
'He's a vampire too Kane. You know he has his ways," Bryson said.
I turned to look out the living room window. Even if he was hiding in the pits of the earth, I'd find him. I'd find him and torture him to death. He'll rue the day he decided to set his eyes on my mate.

Sya's POV:
My head throbbed with immense pain as I came to my senses. My vision was blurry and it was kind of hard to open my eyes. My body felt so sore too. Whoever it was, must've thrown me down on the ground. I sat up with great difficulty and looked around. I'd been lying on the cold ground in a dark, dirty room. It smelled like the sewers, absolutely gross.
I tried to move but a heavy metallic thing on my wrist wouldn't let me. What the-? I looked down at my hands in horror. They were chained! That sick bastard!
How could he chain a girl to the wall? I mean, was I that big of a threat? Was it John? Did he kidnap me?
I groaned. Kidnapping me and keeping me in unknown places wasn't going to help his case. The mother and son were not going to get anything out of me. I tried to pry my hands out of the metal rings but it wouldn't work. I applied a bit of force.
'Ow!" Not only did it not work but I ended up hurting myself.
Stupid John and his sick mother.
The metal door opened and the same dark figure stepped into the room. Even the door of this place was super dingy and old. I squinted but it was too dark to tell who my kidnapper was. He used a gloved hand to switch on the light.
I covered my eyes due to the sudden brightness but soon adjusted my vision to it. I looked up to start cursing John's stupid face but to my surprise and utter shock, it wasn't him.
Elijah was standing there with a sick grin plastered on his face. He walked towards me, taking slow steps, like a predator walking towards its prey. The night he attacked me flashed in front of my eyes. All my confidence flew out the window and I cowered back in fear.
"Well, well, well. Who's here? Our sweet girl, Sya," he said in a sickeningly sweet tone. He crouched down near my face, light falling on his face. I didn't really remember what he looked like but seeing him now brought back the horrific memories of that night. I wasn't that afraid of John anymore because I knew to what extent he could go to.
But Elijah? Why on earth did he kidnap me? Was this revenge for that night?
I ran my eyes over his jet black hair, pale face, and red lips. He would be perfect for the role of Count Dracula. I guess he really was playing that field since he had me chained up.
But the most terrifying thing about him was those bloodshot eyes. They were dark, absolutely lifeless. They reminded me of the man who attacked me in the alley.
He was looking at me with an amused face. As if it was fun to see me cowering in fear. That made me angry.
"Why the hell did you bring me here?!" I yelled at him. He chuckled whilst shaking his head.
"Always feisty, aren't we?" He joked as a reference to the night I'd smashed that frame on his head. 'I did not like that frame you smashed on my head, you know? I bled a little. And that was not fun for me."
'You deserved, you sick piece of shit," I hissed. I was done being scared.
'As much as you'd like a revenge play, I don't compete against lower beings," he sighed and stood. 'I'll just keep you company until your mate comes to give me what I want. Then you can be on your way and I'll be on mine." He spoke the word ‘mate' as if he was talking about the grossest thing to exist in all of humanity.
I frowned. Mate? As in my best friend? Oh God! Does he have his eye on Hannah?
"W-what do you mean by mate? What mate?" I asked nervously, afraid of his answer. If he even mentioned Hannah, I'd kill him.
But instead of answering, he burst into laughter. His manic laughs echoed through the walls of the disgusting room.
"That was so funny," he said, leaning over his knees. My frown deepened. So not only was he evil but he was crazy too. That's just what I needed.
He stopped laughing when he realized I wasn't laughing along, to whatever joke that happened here. He sighed and shook his head.
'Typical Wilson. You'd expect him to hide the whole ‘mate-bond' shit," he muttered under his breath.
'Will you tell me what's going on?! And how do you know Kane!" I yelled, my heart racing.
He crouched down and looked at my face, 'Darling, your sweet, sweet boyfriend is actually a vampire."
I stared at his face for a good minute. Then burst out laughing. He for sure is crazy.
"You expect me to believe that? He isn't a vampire," I sputtered. He chained me only to tell me this? Psycho.
'Oh yeah?" he said before standing up. 'It seems like Wilson hasn't told you anything about his people. What if I introduce you instead?"
My laughter died down, replaced by anxiety. If he knew me through John, why did he keep mentioning Kane?
He removed his gloves and the hood from his head, dropping them on the ground. Then he kneeled in front of me again and grabbed me by the hair, forcing me to keep looking at his face.
Then I saw them. The color of his irises changed to yellow and became slits. He opened his mouth and two long fangs began to grow out.
My entire body stopped functioning and I was rooted to the spot in fear. He really was a vampire!
'Do you like them? I had them polished," he hissed. 'I can suck you dry of blood with just a bite, baby."
He let go of me and stood up again. My body was trembling. Was I really going to experience so much in just one life? I could use some more if I was going to encounter murderous relatives and vampires all in the same life.
I did read about vampires a lot ever since I was little. After that accident with my parents, I had this obsession with the theory that vampires could be real. I stopped thinking about it once I hit my teens because that's when Helena began putting me through bigger hell.
"Wh-what do you mean the mate-bond? What is that?" I stuttered, afraid I'd piss him off and he'd want a drink.
"I don't know exactly. People say mate is someone your heartstrings are attached to. The whole ‘your soul mate for life' kind of hogwash," he said it in an annoying girly voice.
'I've always thought of mates as stupid, weak dead weights. Not only are they good-for-nothing but you also have to do stupid stuff for them like save their lives when they're in danger. But you know, Wilson is the kind of idiot to risk his life for a weak, pathetic mate. And that's when I'll finish him off and that idiot Bryson. They deserve it." With that, he walked out of the room still laughing.
It was all too much to comprehend right now. I was shocked that Kane was a vampire, mad he didn't tell me about it, and worried he might get hurt trying to save me.
But still, amidst all this craziness, I found myself wishing for his safety more than anything else.
