Chapter 23: Saving her
Kane's POV
The car ride to the place Stella told me about was a blur of madness. Hannah had forced herself inside before Bryson could stop her and demanded she be taken to the place her best friend was being forcefully kept in. Both I and her boyfriend told her not to go, as it would put her in danger but she refused to listen.
Her persistence was both understandable and stupid. Understandable because her best friend had been kidnapped and stupid because she had no idea who we were dealing with.
But I didn't tell her. It was Bryson's place to spill his secret.
Hence, the four of us traveled to the far end of the woods, where an old, abandoned torture tower was located. Stella had traced Sya to the basement of this place. I stopped a little away and turned around to the girls.
'Stella, you know what to do right? Me and Bryson takedown Elijah and his minions. You and Hannah stay hidden."
They nodded and we got out. Night had fallen outside and I could hear owls hooting and wild animals howling. I crept inside through the broken entrance. It was all so dark.
I signaled the girls to hide when I heard voices. They were Elijah's minions. Victor and Dave. The two joined his stupid little group when he showed off his possession of the stone of onheil. They'd been loyal ever since.
They could've picked up our scents in an instant but since we were wearing one of Stella's potions, they couldn't tell we were in the vicinity.
They stood guarded outside a wooden door, their fangs bear.
'You guys!" Stella hissed from the far left corner.
I turned to look at her and so did Bryson. I frowned.
Why is she alone? Isn't Hannah supposed to be with her?
'It's Hannah! She's missing!" she whispered again.
The color from Bryson's face faded. Before he could react, I grabbed his arm. 'Listen. Don't do anything rash. It could ruin the whole plan."
It was hard for him to listen to me but he still nodded, his fist clenched. I turned to Stella.
'Go look for her. Stay clear of Elijah, okay?"
'Got it." She disappeared and we turned our attention towards the two.
'Ready?" I asked Bryson who nodded, even more determined now.
I ran over to Victor and grabbed him by the neck. Dave attempted to pounce at me but Bryson got to him at the same time. Victor squirmed under my grip but I grabbed his hand turned it over.
'Ow!" he tried to yell but since I had his vocal cords pressed under my fingers, he couldn't shout.
I wasted no time and flipped over, slamming him to the ground and kicked his side, turning him over on his back.
'Where is he? Elijah," I growled, pressing my foot down on his throat.
He struggled to breathe but I knew it wouldn't be long before he freed himself.
He smiled at me in mockery, 'You think you have a chance?"
The sound of a door opening distracted me and he took the chance to grab my foot and threw me back. My feet skidded on the ground so I wouldn't lose my balance. Beside me, Bryson had also been pushed away by Dave.
The door opened and Elijah stepped outside. Rage coursed through me as I stared at the familiar face. The bloody rat who destroyed everyone I held dear to me.
'We meet again, kid," he snarled, a dirty sneer on his face.
'I didn't know torture towers had rats in them," I snarled.
He laughed. 'Oh please, Kane. That's an insult to vampires, you know that. Especially native ones like me," he turned to Bryson. 'Why hello there Bryson. I see you've held on to this one than joining my little group."
'I'd rather stick a fucking dynamite down your throat," Bryson spat.
'Woah, hey," Elijah laughed, raising both hands. 'Not a nice thing to say to the person who has your mate. By the way, she doesn't know who you are yet, does she?"
Bryson's eyes lit up in fury, 'I swear to God I'll kill you!"
'Enough chit chat. I believe you have something that belongs to me?"
I looked at Bryson before reaching into my pocket and pulling out a tiny red pouch. 'You mean this?"
Elijah nodded, his eyes lighting up with hunger. 'Yes, precisely. Give it here. It's not for children."
I threw it at him. 'Here. Now give me the girls."
He caught it with ease and excitedly opened it. I watched in serious satisfaction as that excited smile of his turned to full force wrath. 'The hell is this?!" He screamed.
I smirked, 'Your stone."
He turned the pouch over and red dust fell out. 'What the hell did you do to it!" he raged.
'Oh, we just put it into the kitchen blender. You know, see what happens. Poor thing couldn't even survive that," Bryson laughed.
'Oh no, Bryson. It did break one of the blades," I told him. Bryson looked at Elijah with mock shock.
Elijah's eyes turned to slits as he discarded the pouch. 'Let's put an end to this."
Bryson was ready to charge forward but I grabbed his arm. 'No. This one's mine."
I charged at him and pushed him back. He fell back and bit the wall, breaking it. He fell outside and disappeared into the forest. Bryson kicked both Victor and Dave to the ground with one quick swipe.
I ran after Elijah. It was almost dawn now, the sun peaking gently over the horizon. I ran till I reached a clearing and there he stood, his fangs and claws bear.
'You know, your mate is so beautiful. Why don't you let me have some fun with her first? It'll be-"
I didn't let him finish that sentence. I pounced on him, fully enraged and we both fell to the ground. Even though it had been almost a hundred years since I had that stone, its effects could still be seen in Elijah. That's how malicious it was.
He'd clawed at my arms, leaving scratch marks over them. I stood up, staring at him as he stood on his feet with that annoying sneer still on his face.
'Aww come on. Don't be like that. Tell you what. Why don't you let me play with your mate a bit before I kill her? You know I never don't appreciate my meals. Remember how I cherished your friends, what were their names now? Those little pests. They didn't even have enough blood-'
'YOU SICK BASTARD!" I screamed and lunged at him. He didn't even have time to gasp when I picked him up and threw him at the tree. He hit it so hard and slid to the ground but I didn't stop.
I couldn't stop.
I kicked him in the stomach and punched his face over and over again as the night he killed my buddies flashed through my eyes.
'This is for Sandy!" I punched his jaw, making him sputter blood. 'This is for Ray! For Sean! For Tyler! For Jac! For Kyle!"
He was so injured, he couldn't even speak. I got up and broke the thick branch off one of the trees using my bare hands. I stalked back to where he was lying, his face and chin covered in blood.
'And this is for all those people you ever laid your filthy eyes on. Including my Sya!" I raised the branch high over my head before stabbing him right in the heart.
His head fell back limp while his eyes rolled in his head, still open. I stepped back and watched as his body turned to ashes before completely disappearing from the face of the earth.
That fucking coward.
