Chapter-22: Rescuer
Sya's POV:
I sneezed for the 20th time since Elijah had brought me here. I had no idea how long that was either but it felt like years already. I couldn't tell if it was day or night outside because there was only a tiny window in this moldy room and it didn't even show the sky. Just the tunnel to the sewers. My throat was dry, I never got to eat my cheeseburger and a loon was keeping me here by force, seeking something from my boyfriend.
Speaking of whom, I did have enough time to think about the fact that Kane was a vampire. And I realized, I was pretty okay with it. I was kind of put off about the fact that he never told me but I guess it was never easy to reveal something as big as this to the person your heart was bound to.
His heart was mine. He had no choice but to love me. And I felt drawn to him too. No, not just drawn, I loved him with my everything. He was the first person to love me. The first person to hold my hand and tell me he loved me with all my insecurities and scars included. He didn't even see them. I couldn't get mad at him for not telling me. I was his mate. And that was a huge deal. He could never hate me. And he never did either.
It felt surreal, honestly. Having a person all to myself. And someone as kind and handsome as Kane too. But would I ever get to tell him all this? That just as he had accepted me and loved me with all my scars, I felt the same way? Oh, God. I should've just told him. I should've told him what he meant to me with a little more emotion, a little more love.
Why wasn't he coming though?
The rusted metal door opened and Elijah stepped inside, that stupid grin still plastered to his face. I didn't even have the energy to move. I stared at him in anger as he leisurely walked towards me. He crouched on the ground, staring at my face.
'I've waited a long time but seems like your mate doesn't want you," he said, his mouth stretched in that sickening grin. 'Although, that would be a terrible loss for him. You're so pretty."
He traced his finger down the side of my face, making my insides curl with disgust.
'What do you want Elijah? Just let me go already!" I spat.
He laughed. 'You're not going anywhere. Even if he does come, he'll meet his end. And I get to keep you as my pet."
My eyes bulged. 'W-What do you mean?"
'You know, I don't have to wait too long for that to happen," he moved forward. I tried to crawl away but my back was already against the wall so there was no possible way I could've avoided him. I found myself wishing I was dead already.
Kane where are you!
He grabbed my arm and yanked me closer to him. He used his other hand to trace my arm before slipping it under my shirt, his fingers grazing my bare skin.
Tears formed in my eyes and I bit my lip to stop them. I was shaking all over and feeling disgusting.
Before he could do anything more, however, we heard a noise. And another. He stood up, glancing at the door suspiciously.
'Huh, what's that?" he walked outside, slamming the door shut behind him.
My heart was beating so fast and I finally let out the sob I'd been holding back. If I ever got out of here, if I had the chance to live, I'd scrub myself until I bleed first.
I couldn't hear anything even though I tried my best to listen. No noises of a struggle at all. Was it Kane or was Elijah going to be back?
Fear crawled over my body. I'd rather die than let him touch me. I looked around for something, anything, to open these stupid chains with. I spotted a glass bottle lying at a distance. That wouldn't work but I should keep it for self-defense. I managed to make it roll towards me using my foot and broke it. Then I examined the lock on the chains. There was no way I could break through these.
The door suddenly creaked open. I quickly grabbed the biggest shard. I'd rather be killed or kill than raped and kept as a sex toy.
Elijah did walk in but he wasn't alone. He was dragging Hannah inside!
'Hey, pet! Look who I brought to keep you company!" he sang, that wicked grin on his face even wider.
Hannah looked really scared but relief washed over her pretty features when she saw me. 'Sya!"
Before I could say anything, Elijah grabbed her arm and made her face him.
'You know, you're even prettier. I think I hit the jackpot," he slurred, looking her up and down. Hannah squirmed but he gripped her tighter.
'Let her go! You sick bastard!" I screamed. 'If you dare touch her-"
'Oh shut up," he groaned, looking at me. 'You speak too much. Should I dump you and keep her as my pet? She's a lot quieter."
He licked his lips, eyeing my best friend.
'Whoever you are, let us go!" Hannah protested.
Elijah laughed, 'You're Bryson's mate aren't you?"
My eyes widened. Hannah had no idea who these people were! And I had no idea how she was going to take this either.
But she didn't understand or make the connection because she didn't look shocked. A thud outside made Elijah smile.
'Ah! Your boyfriends are here. I'll finish off my business and then decide which one of you I want to keep, alright?"
He dragged Hannah towards the poll while she tried to refrain. He tied her hands behind it.
'Be nice girls, okay? No funny business," he growled before walking out, bolting the door behind him.
'Sya, oh thank God you're okay!" Hannah said, a relieved smile on her face.
'Hannah! How could you come here?!" I yelled. 'See? You're in danger now!"
'I came with Bryson, Kane, and their friend, Stella. But I tripped and got lost. When I wandered inside the tunnel passageway, this weird guy grabbed me and dragged me here," she told me, trying to wiggle her hands free.
For the first time, I felt happy. Kane was here! We were going to be safe!
'Can you free yourself?" I asked.
'I'm trying to. Wait," she groaned, pushing her wrists against the thick rope. It was clearly cutting through her flesh.
'Hannah don't. You're hurting yourself," I mumbled weakly.
'No! It's all my fault. I shouldn't have let you go back in by yourself. I owe this to you," her voice trembled a bit and I could see she was trying hard not to cry.
'Hannah, you know I love you. You didn't have to do this."
'No, Sya. I was going to do this and if need be, I'll keep doing this. You're my best friend!" she exclaimed.
I sighed.
'I think I got this," she muttered and pretty soon, pulled one hand free. She raised it to show me with a teary smile on her face but my heart ached.
It was all red and scratched up, bleeding a little.
She stood up and ran over to me, throwing her arms around my neck and sobbing quietly before saying, 'We have to get through this Sya. We can."
I nodded, tears streaming down my face.
'I'll look for something strong enough to break these locks," she pulled away and wiped her face. Her wrists were so badly injured but she wasn't giving up.
'Try that corner," I motioned towards the far right. 'There has to be a toolbox somewhere."
She got up and ran while I tried to pry the chains off my wrists. Nope. Didn't work the first time, wasn't even working now.
Hannah came running back, holding a sledgehammer. 'I found something!" she yelled.
'That's good," I encouraged her. 'Try breaking the chain locks on the wall."
She dropped to her knees and hit it. The first slam didn't work but after a few more hits, the chain came loose. I quickly pulled my arm free and told her to hit near the ring.
She seemed scared but complied nevertheless. She didn't miss and the ring's foundation broke, clamping it open. I groaned and rubbed my skin where it hurt. We managed to break the other one and Hannah pulled me into another hug.
'I'm so glad you're okay!" Hannah exclaimed.
We pulled apart and stood up. I felt slightly wobbly but the adrenaline rush kept me going.
'Let's look for a way out." I quickly ran to the metal door and pulled it but it was locked. Obviously.
