Chapter 06: His girlfriend
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Evan walks to and fro, he furrows his eyebrows and stops in front of Aiden and Riley who are seated next to each other on the sofa 'Something is off," he exhales observing the both of them.
'What's missing?" Riley asks curiously.
'It's just…," Evan points at Riley and at Aiden 'You both don't look good together," he sighs 'How come other couples look perfect together even if there is nothing between them," he explains almost talking to himself.
Riley knits his eyebrows and turns to his left taking a glance at Aiden who stares at an empty space her expression clearly showing that she is not interested, his lips move to an uneven smile when he faces Evan 'I get you," he blurts nodding his head understanding the stiff air with in them.
Evan orders moving his hand showing the position 'Move a little closer," he states which makes Aiden to pass a glance at Riley when his shoulder touched hers 'I doubt that people would believe," Evan continues his eyes never leaving both of them. Throwing himself on the sofa he grabs his phone from the table and unlocks it 'Anyways, we have no other way, I'll post something related on media so tomorrow you can have a live chat," the environment takes over silence for few minutes while Evan gets busy with the phone 'Give me yours," he moves his hand forward and Riley hands over his phone.
'You can post something on IG," Evan looks straight at Aiden who is puzzled.
Riley raises his brows at her as she remains silent for a while 'You don't have to do it, if you don't want to but it's better if you do," Riley explains. They both wait till Aiden pulls out her phone and hands it over to Evan.
'Your passw….," he stops when he switches on her phone.
'I don't have one," Aiden informs moving behind resting her shoulders on the sofa head.
'You really don't lock your phone," Riley exclaims, his eyes wide open.
'Is that something to be surprised?" Aiden utters dryly as she rolls her eyes.
'Of course, it is," Riley cheers, he flicks his finger noticing Evan and says 'Don't tell me that you don't use social media as well," he laughs.
'Isn't it a waste of time," she states as she sits straight and looks at Evan who is astonished 'Why do you all look so shocked," she asks puzzled.
'Come on," Riley stands and steps forward, he grabs her phone from Evan's grip, looking at the screen he asks 'In which era are you? You are like a granny who uses the phone only for call purposes."
'Wasn't it why the mobiles were invented ' she stands and pulls her phone from his grip 'If there is nothing else, I'll take my leave," picking the jacket from the sofa she strolls to the door.
'Alright, take care of everything," Aiden stops and turns around when Riley takes his car keys.
'Where are you heading to?" she questions as she ties the lace of her boots.
'Hangover," Riley tosses the key to her which she catches" Follow me," he walks out.
The car moves out the garage of the apartment, the air in silence. The few seconds of silence breaks when Riley begins to hum in rhythm as the silence is excruciating.
'Hey...," He calls out stopping at the traffic light 'What was your previous job?" he questions turning slightly from his seat facing her.
Aiden moves her eyes from the view outside to Riley 'An FBI," she answers dryly, she flinches when Riley claps his hands suddenly.
'So that is why you know to fight," he says moving forward in interest 'Why were you fired then?" he asks eagerly waiting for her answer.
'That's none of your business," she blurts turning to the opposite direction when the car moves.
'It's none of your business," he mimics and chuckles at his own actions.
The car comes to a halt by the racing track, the noise of the crowd cheering filling in the cold night air.
'I thought it was something important," Aiden blurts as they get off the car and walk towards the crowd.
'It is," Riley stretches his arm warming up 'No one can beat me," he lifts up his head in pride.
'You bet," Aiden asks turning to her left standing in front of him making him to stop his movements and look at her for a while registering her words in his head.
The corner of his lips twitches up to a smirk 'On what?"
'Dinner," she raises her brows confidently watching his pride, breaking her knuckles she walks ahead grabbing the attention of the crowd.
A group of people walks towards them and pulls him forward the environment filling with chats and laughter. After a few minutes of talking, he walks ahead and gestures Aiden to step forward. A grin of confidence makes its way on his lips when she stands by the second car. He waves at his friends who are cheering for both of them, most of them shouting ‘Riley's girlfriend'.
'I will not go easy because you are a girl 'Riley scoffs as he gets in the car.
'You don't have to," she hops in, buckling up the seat belt she turns to her left and there Riley looks at her as well. He passes her a wink which makes her to exhale and look straight, the grip on the steering wheel tightens their eyes fixed to the person standing in front between the two vehicles.
The engine starts the noise of it echoes in the silent air, the two car drives ahead in a blink of an eye. Riley races forward, his inner being in joy the smirk never leaving his face. The cheers fill in the air, most of them cheering for their buddy's girlfriend.
Riley stares straight at the windscreen taken back, his eyes still cannot believe what he saw and his brain still unable to register what happened. Being a winner of race bet always his first failure made him surprise, he steps out of the vehicle watching Aiden who smiles at the people around her, watching the handshakes, claps and hugs.
'How did she speed up?" he questions himself recalling the scene when she over took.
Before his friends come to him, he escapes to the car not ready take up the teases as he has always boasted about his speed. He sends a message to Aiden and she arrives after a few minutes. They drive to a restaurant nearby with no word spoken by anyone.
The air between them takeovers silence, Aiden looks around the private room of the restaurant and at Riley who keeps his eyes on her still not ready to accept his defeat.
'You were cool," Riley compliments showing her thumbs up, the corners of his lips twitch up to a smile when he leans forward 'so...," he continues 'How do you know to race? He asks curiously eager to hear her story.
'It's none of your business 'Aiden blurts bluntly looking through the door way where the waiter walks in to take their order.
The plates of colourful delicious appetite are arranged on the table, taking the knife and the fork she cuts the tender meat and looks straight at Riley, her gaze moves down to his plate 'You sure you are only going to eat that 'she asks raising her brows her lips move downwards to an uneven shape when he stuffs his mouth with the green vegetables.
'Yes, I got to be on diet" he replies eyeing on the plates in his view. The bowl of soup. The steak and the pudding make his inner being mouth water 'Shouldn't you eat less as well," he asks.
'Why should I? I'm not an idol like you," she rolls her eyes 'Someone who should look pleasing to other's eyes,"
'So, you agree that I look pleasing," Riley sneers running his hand through his hair.
'I never told that," she utters taking a sip of the canned cola 'An immature brat like you is good for kids,"
'You know, you sound like an old lady," he takes a bite of the tomato 'You are completely not my type anyways, it's good though as staying together for a few months will not affect us, as everyone told we don't look together," he chuckles at his own statement 'In what type of man are you interested?"
'None……,"
'Yeah, none of my business," he interrupts and laughs softly watching Aiden still for a while 'I love girls who are cute and weak so I can protect them," finishing up his plate he rests his arms on the table and leans forward with interest 'Now tell me yours," he requests.
Aiden rolls her eyes and moves forward as well 'Anyone unlike you," she blurts and continues to fill her stomach controlling herself not to laugh out at his expression.
When they are done Riley asks Aiden for her phone as she gives him as requested. Switching on the camera he holds it high, a wide smile playing on his face.
'Smile," he orders looking at the phone screen and she does 'That's nice," he clicks the camera and looks at the photo.
Riley continues to click many photos where Aiden watches him with a frown watching all his dramatic poses. His eyebrows furrow when the phone rings, he places her phone on the table 'Its dad," he informs waiting till she answers the call.
