Chapter 9: Regret is more painful than death
Third Person P.O.V
Passing the main road Aiden walks to the store by the end of the street, she stops in her tracks when she notices Riley seated outside by the balcony where the chairs and tables are arranged. Looking around finding the store lonely she walks towards and sits on the chair next5 to him, he looks up from her shoes and a smile makes its way on his lips when she sits.
Looking at the three empty cans on table she exhales 'Stop drinking," she says dryly as she throws the empty cans to the bin by their table.
'I did not have enough," Riley replies staring at the can on the table, he looks at Aiden and says 'I don't get drunk," he smiles, taking the can he gulps down the remaining alcohol in it, biting his lower lip he curls his lips inwards by pressing the can harder 'You can leave," he states opening another can, the tone of his voice enough to show that he is not drunk as he didn't stammer.
Letting out a breath Aiden inserts her hands into her jacket's pocket shrugging her shoulders he leans back resting her shoulders to the chair head 'What if someone sees you?" she asks looking around at the lonely dark road, the dim street light makes the road seem empty where only the stray cats are roaming around.
'No one be around here at this hour unless few," he stares at the lonely lane by the shop 'But it's only ten at night," he sniffs and turns to his left facing Aiden. His body freezes when he stares at her observing her features, his skin heats up when the scene in the evening flashes in his mind, his heart beat fastens again as that se end, his body reacts the same way like she is kissing him now. He never utters a word neither did she, she looks at him puzzled moving her head backwards her lips forms to an uneven smile 'Am I drunk," he asks knitting his brows, he moves little forward and sits back instantly, closing his eyes he takes a deep breath in and lets it out as he opens his eyes, shaking his head he shakes off the thoughts building in his head, stealing a glance at her he drinks again.
They stay silent for few minutes while he continues to drink and she stares at her fingers 'Riley," she mentions softly and speaks hesitantly 'You know regret is painful than death,"
Riley stops his actions staring at the can which is holding his ears paying attention to her as she continues 'I don't know what's going on in your family and I have no right to interfere but I'm saying this behalf of your dad," she remains silent for a minute staring at Riley's side features noticing his jaw tighten 'What you mentioned back there about your mother is right in your point of view but not in his," she moves forward 'It was not that the case was important it's just he couldn't walk out, his client believed him and you know how much hard work was put into it, Do you think that he doesn't regret for his action? And about the tickets he told me about last night, he just worried that you will be in trouble, as parent he is doing his job. I'm not saying that what you did was wrong but the way you spoke is, and later I'm sure that you will regret it," she moves back letting out a sigh 'I just felt like I needed to say it, it's not to advice."
They remain silent again while she watches him drinking up, emptying three more cans.
'You said that you wouldn't get drunk," she sneers as she stands up from the chair, throwing the empty cans in the bin she breaks her knuckle looking at Riley whose head is on the table, pulling him straight by his shoulders, she bends and moves his hands around her neck 'What will you do if I'm not here?" she grunts dragging him with her.
'Oh my god, you are heavy," she grunts under her breath, panting she puts him on the road by his car and straight 'On diet?" she scoffs staring at him 'Seems like you eat as pig," she grumbles scooting down she searches for the car keys from his coats pocket.
Throwing him in on the back seat she gets into the driver's seat, running her hand through her hair she lets out a weary sigh 'Why am I helping you? Could just left you there," she grumbles as she starts the engine.
The car comes to a halt at the parking lot if the apartment, Aiden sniffles and turns around taking a look at Riley, he lays on the seat, his one leg folded on the seat the other hanging down, his lips like he is whispering something. Getting out of the car she opens the back seat door and leans in 'Wake up," she pulls him by his t shirt's collar, shaking him vigorously but he never moves an inch.
'Don't ever think that I will carry you upstairs," she growls mibvi9ng in further, her body over his with a wide space between them.
"Get up," she yells "Or ill hit you harder," she warns staring down at his face, chewing onto her inner cheeks she slaps across his right cheek slowly.
His eyelids lift slightly, j=his lips part while he stares at her with blurry vision, the corners of his lips twitch upwards to grin while his head gives filters are stars to his vison. He stares at her a melody p-laying at the back of his mind.
"Wake..." she slaps him harder; Riley's eyes shoot open as he flinches "Up," she completes her sentence moving backwards, she gets out if the car.
His long legs hang out, he rubs his face and stretches his arm. Looking around with furrowed eyebrows he sits at the edge of the seat on the side where the door is open 'Home?" he questions staring at the building in front of him, he turns to his left looking up at Aiden who is standing there by crossing her arms over her chest. She rolls her eyes and passes him a glance 'Yes," she replies dryly.
Riley stands and pushes the door shut; she steps forward ignoring his presence. Knitting her brows, she turns around as she never heard his footstep, she runs her hand through her hair irritated, He stands by the car leaning over it, taking its support for his stability. Stomping towards him she puts his arm over her neck and holds by his waist, dragging him with her every step.
'Next time tell me that you are not drunk," she grunts waiting for the elevator 'I'll kick out of this world," she grumbles as she lifts him to his feet every time he falls over.
A sigh of relief leaves her lips when they finally reached the destination, she puts him on the floor as she couldn't no longer handle his weight. Typing the password, she pushes the door open, scooting down she moves his upper body to the floor, making him to lay flat. Holding his ankle, she lifts his right leg and drags him in.
'Thank goodness you are back," Evan exclaims as he hops forward as soon as the door is opened 'Riley we...," he stops when he notices Riley on the floor behind Aiden, from Evan she turns around and drop his leg, dusting her against each other she sighs.
'He is drunk," she informs stepping aside 'I got to go,"
'Hey," Evan calls out as he moves Riley to the wall, keeping him a sitting position.
'Yeah," she asks waiting till he is done.
'I just want to tell you that," he hesitates staying silent for a while and continues 'Can you move in?"
'What?" Aiden's voice comes out loud in stern.
'No, I mean," he smiles nervously 'The media will be paying attention, they might outside of the apartment as well, if they see you both together often, they won't suspect," He explains.
The sun rays pass through the slightly open curtains, the ringing of the bell, the noise of the door knocking and the ringtone of her phone plays a musical show in the house. Crouching her lazy body Lisa sits staring at the clock, she lets out a loud sigh noticing the time is half past seven, squeezing her eyes shut she relaxes her heavy eyelids ignoring the noise around. Taking her own time, she hangs out her legs from the bed and picks up her phone.
"Aiden?" she reads the name of the caller id, tossing the phone to the bed she runs to hall keeping wide steps, a wide smile plays on her lips when she opens the door.
She slaps her hands below her chin and looks at Aiden fluttering her eyelashes "Sorry for the delay my sweetheart
