CHAPTER 28 NEOLA "Okay, I couldn't. What I really wanted to say to the king, I couldn't say any of it." A tear falls down on his cheek as Luke continue, "How hard it is for me to live as an orphan and sell my sister. I hated the king so much. I blame him for what had happened in the past. Because I thought they are going to look for me, I stubbornly refuse to be adopted, hoping that he will find me soon for I haven't change my name. In the end, he never found me and I felt so lonely." "Then, I got adopted. I struggled to be the best but in the end, there is this void I couldn't fill." He looks at me, his eyes glassy, " I miss them so much, I miss my parents..." I pulled him in my arms and gently tap his back. After a while, we pulled back. He cleared his throat while I tuck my hair on my ear. "Are you finally okay, now?" I ask him lightly and he nodded. "Yes. A little bit. Earlier that-" "Hmm?" I smiled back at him and he bowed, sighing. "That-" "What? About you crying?" his face reddened as he scratch his ear. "Not crying. That is only a hint of tears, I did not cry." he cleared his throat and gulp, "Anyway, that's only the anesthesia working on me. I am not in my right state of mind." I rolled my eyes at him. "There's no need for you to tell my guards, Neo." "Yeah, I forget well. Don't worry about that, Luke." I brush him off and he smiled, "Okay that's good then." "From now on, you tell me as much as you want. What you couldn't tell the others." I smiled and continue, "I'll listen to everything and forget it all." I was about to stand up when he pulled me back "Really, you will forget everything?" I nodded at him, avoiding his intense gaze. "Then, will you forget this too?" he pulls my head towards him and kiss me. His lips lingered on mine. I couldn't speak. I couldn't think straight. I close my eyes and savor the moment, engraving it in my mind. After a while, he pulls away and said, "I choose you Neo, I do but if you really insist then I will let you. I will let you be on your own. But please, don't forget that I love you so much..." As he finish saying this words he collapse back on the carpet, eyes closed. What just happen? * A knock startled me. I sat up from the bed to see Luke already standing. He grab a knife from the cupboard and put his finger over his lips. He slowly walk towards the door only to be surprise, "Your majesty, your highness! It is me, Edam. Are you really there?" Luke let go of the knife and quickly opens the door. Edam bolted in and hug Luke. Geez, when did these guys became close? I wasn't inform. Luke push him back, wincing as he hold his shoulder. "Your highness!" Edam rush towards me, pausing for a bit as he looks at Luke. Luke nods at him and Edam smiled as he took me in his arms. "You are okay, you are alright. Oh my, I thought I am going to lose my mind with all the thinking." "Hey, don't flatter yourself that much, " Jace entered the room with Kent and Sebin following behind. The two sat by the furnace as Jace checks the room and ask the other guards to round the perimeter. "You did well for a first timer, your majesty" Jace nodded at me and Luke before he sat on the carpet. "We only trek this last week, Jace. It is not that hard to find." "Last week? So you were here, last week?" I ask. Jace looks back at Luke, avoiding my gaze. The other three were silent, as they too, avoided my gaze. Luke sigh before asking them to go out and call the others. "Neo-" "I know. I have no right to know. No need to explain, Luke." I walk towards the window and watch as Edam and Jace look around, commanding the other guards. "But I wanted to tell you. You promise me last night, remember?" I nod my head, still not forgetting the other thing. "I am here in Canada for three days. I met with the royalties and visit the aquarium the same day that you went. I tried to avoid you, I promise but I can't." He pulls my hand and kiss each finger. "I am drawn to you and forever I will stay that way, " he was about to kiss me when the sound of the helicopter separated us. We went outside only to see Fleur running towards the cottage. Her platinum blond hair was braided like a halo on top of her head. She looks like an angel, but acts like a devil when no one is looking around. I clench my jaw and let go of Luke's hand. He looks at me but I just sigh, distancing myself away from him. "Luke, " She ran towards him and Luke almost stumbled because of the impact. She cries on his shoulders as she hold him close. They are almost the same height it doesn't look as awkward compared to me. They fit perfectly. I watch as she checks him, his wound, his face, everything. She glares at me right after Luke explains that he got the injury because Lyle shot him. "This is why I told you not to go after her, Luke. She is friends with the most bizarre people. She doesn't match you in anyway. Come on, let's go. The king is awake and he is looking for you." Her words were like a punch in the gut. Edam looks at me, his sympathetic gaze like a balm to my unseen wound. Jace stood next to me and sigh, "Sorry, you have to hear all that, " He whispered, silently patting my back. I look at Sebin only to see him staring at Fleur. Fleur, feeling his gaze, looks at him making her blush. What the? Can that bitch even blush? And why is she even blushing? Is that because a knight is looking at her? Kent who is standing next to Sebin look at Fleur too but she did not blush as she did with Sebin. Geez. What an odd woman! I look at Fleur as she carefully caress Luke's face and lead him towards the helicopter. I wanted to ask Luke to stay, to fight for him and plead for him to take me but I stood my ground, as stubborn as I have always been. "Neola?" His call made me snap back into reality. I look up from the snow and search his face. He is smiling at me. He pulls me towards him, hug me close and kiss my forehead, "Are you really sure that you will forget about this?" I nodded, unable to answer him. "Do you really not want to be my queen?" I shook my head, tears slowly forming in my eyes. "Do you not love me?" I bit my lip and just look at him. I know he can see how torn I was. I know that he knows how much I love him but we can't be together. He has to rule and I have to live a normal life. We don't fit, just like how Fleur had stated it. "You don't have to say anything for I know." He slowly smiled down at me and lean in to kiss my forehead. "I love you..." And then he left, just like that. Fleur glares at me as she sat next to Luke.
