Chapter Nineteen
Third-person pov
"I don't know what kind of crazy thoughts are going through that head of yours right now but you should realise that, if it ever comes out that Jessica isn't Micheal's child but Derek's, we are both going to have to face the consequences and it won't be pretty. Remember that you are the reason why I had slept with Derek in the first place because if you hadn't cheated on your husband with mine, I wouldn't have had to go as far as getting back at you by sleeping with yours and I wouldn't have gotten pregnant," Anita fired at Rebecca, who immediate scoffed.
"You know what I hate most about you, it's that you never fail to find excuses to suit yourself and to make yourself feel better and you tend to blame everyone else around you instead of accepting your fault and leaving it at that. Okay fine, I admit that sleeping with Michael was very wrong but you always make it sound like I did it alone and I've never seen you blame your husband for agreeing to sleep with me in the first place. You need to always put in mind that it takes two to tango and you need to stop acting like this didn't happen over twenty years ago,"
"The only thing I did was get involved with your husband to save my family's reputation. You were the very person that taught me that regardless of how anyone else would feel, I should always do whatever it is to succeed without caring for anybody's emotions and I did just what you taught me. The only reason you are mad is that it was your husband that I slept with because should it have been anybody else's husband, you would have wholeheartedly supported me without thinking twice about it," Rebecca fired back and Anita couldn't believe her ears.
The fact that Rebecca was shameless enough to tell her to her face that she wasn't feeling remorseful about what she did to her was making her even more upset and the hatred that he had for her only seemed to grow even more. She had considered Rebecca as her best friend and she did everything that she could to support Rebecca's career especially when things weren't going well for her. She just couldn't believe that the best way Rebecca could pay her back for everything that she did for her was by sleeping with her husband and being shameless enough to admit it to her without feeling any sort of remorse.
"I thought you didn't want to talk about anything that concerned our personal life but seeing how you were the first to bring this up, I'm willing to drag this out with you right here, right now. You were nobody when you and I first met Rebecca. I'm the one from a prestigious family and I was the one who was married to a reputable man while you were busy trying to make a career for yourself as a model and still being very unsuccessful at it. I know that it still hurts you to think about it because you don't like to admit the truth to yourself but you can never change the fact that I made you Rebecca,"
"I was the one that made it possible for you to meet Derek and I'm responsible for bringing your career as a model to the limelight. The only reason why you are where you are today is because of me and I don't expect you to admit it because you've never been grateful for anything that I did for you and the best way you thought of repaying me for helping you out and making a nobody like you a somebody was by sleeping with my husband, getting pregnant for him but because you didn't want your secret being exposed, you ended up having an abortion,"
"The only reason I didn't say anything even when I knew was that I was waiting for you to come clean to me and apologise for doing what you did but instead of being sincere and just apologising, you decided to be a bitch instead and you rubbed it in my face that even after I bragged that I knew Michael would never cheat on you, that you were able to still get them to cheat and you even made him go as far as investing millions in Elite. Now tell me, Rebecca, do you believe that what you did was fair? Do you think that you have any right to say anything to me at all?" Anita questioned in anger.
Rebecca didn't say anything at first because she couldn't think of what to say. As much as she hated to admit it, Anita had a point and she was to blame for their fallout because she was the first person to betray Anita simply because she was jealous of the life that she had and she just had the urge to ruin everything for Anita and make her fall from her high horse.
She was always bitter about the fact that Anita never stopped bragging about how loyal her husband was to her and how he did everything to please her no matter how outrageous it was and she felt jealous because she knew that Derek wasn't the same way with her like Michael was to Anita and she envied the life that Anita had in general.
"It doesn't matter what happened at first Anita because I didn't have the day, you were the one that got pregnant with my husband's child and instead of aborting it just like I did, you chose to play the role of a good person instead and you kept the child and gave birth to her knowing full well that you were having another man's child," Rebecca responded, not ready to admit that she was at fault to Anita.
"I'm also aware of the fact that Michael found out about this before he died and I'm more than certain that the stroke that killed him was because he found out that Jessica wasn't his child and in the process of arguing with you, that was how he died," she added and Anita froze for a while.
She wasn't expecting Rebecca to say what she just said and she felt very offended that Rebecca dared to accuse her when her situation was much worse.
"This is exactly what I was saying earlier Rebecca, you honestly have no shame at all. Haven't you heard the saying that those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? So who do you think you are to accuse me when your case is a lot worse than mine is? At least, I can confidently say that I didn't kill my husband and that his death was an accident but you can't say the same in your case and you and I both know this," Anita fired back and Rebecca rolled her eyes.
"Sweetie, just in case you're forgetting, Derek's death certificate clearly states that he died of natural causes and nothing you say can change that. You referred to me as the shameless one but it seems you're forgetting that I'm not the only shameless person in this room. Remember how you were before you got lucky enough to meet a man like Michael that changed your life completely? You always brag about coming from a prestigious family but you seem to be skipping the part where you got disowned by them because they weren't in support of your career as a model,"
"Anyways, I think this back and forth between us should come to an end now. I've already said everything that I want to say to you and if you can't get over the fact that something happened between your husband and me, then there's nothing I can do for you because I have no intentions of ever apologise for doing what was best for me," Rebecca said and Anita sighed.
She didn't like feeling frustrated but right now, she was feeling very frustrated and upset because it was almost as if Rebecca was justifying everything that she did and making it seem like she was the crazy one simply overreacting over nothing. She just couldn't understand how a person could be so selfish and nonchalant about such a serious situation and this made her regret the day she met Rebecca and the very first day she made up her mind to help her as a friend.
"To be honest, I wasn't expecting you to apologise to me and that isn't what I wanted from you but seeing that you will never agree that you are responsible for how things turned out between us and you're also responsible for the situation that we have to keep to ourselves, I feel like there is nothing else that I should be saying to you because it's only going to make me sound like a broken record. The only business you and I have together as you mentioned earlier, is making sure that no one else finds out who Jessica's biological father is,"
"That is honestly the only thing that is of concern to me and I hope that for your sake and mine, you won't try to act smart with me and say anything to any of your children or mine because if you ever cross that line, Rebecca, I'll make sure that I ruin absolutely everything that you stand for and believe me, I won't stop there. If you don't want to see the dangerous side of me, you had better cooperate with me like we've been cooperating over the years and keep your mouth shut," Anita warned before getting up on her feet to leave but just when she's about to, Gabrielle walks in, taking both Anita and Rebecca by surprise.
"G... Gabrielle," Rebecca stuttered nervously, with her eyes wide in shock.
"Hello, mother. Hello Anita," Gabrielle greeted with a forced smile.
"When did you arrive here?" Rebecca asked and Gabrielle immediately rolled her eyes at her.
"If you're wondering whether or not I overheard your conversation, then don't bother thinking too much because, I heard more than enough already and now my question is, what exactly are you two keeping from us and mom, what's this about Jessica being dad's daughter?" she asked and Rebecca's face immediately goes pale whilst Anita simply stood there, feeling both confused and exposed.
