Chapter 20
"Stop calling her that, amira. She has parents and it is not like they could not take care of her or any of her financial needs. You should watch your mouth and know what you say to people, amira. And this talk is over," he declared. Her cold fury burnt with dangerous intensity. He never worries about her frequent fireworks and showers of red hot sparks, it was these bitterly cold slow burning rages that threatened to engulf their relationship.
She looked at his retreating back remorsefully. Maybe she has gone too far, she thought. But he also has a fault in this, he humiliated her in front of that rag girl. As big and rich as she was, he dared to humiliate her in front of that girl? That will never sit right with her and she was never going to tolerate it.

"Alhaji, I have an idea. Why don't I ask my nephew to move here since he isn't doing much in kano, I know my brother won't have a problem with that." She suggested. He flashed her a quick gaze and averted his eyes from her. He continued watching the news as if he was the only one in the room. "Alhaji I'm talking to you. I see Muhsin has his own company which he must be busy with and he has family to take care of so there's no point in stressing him all the time because of that girl or anything."
He chuckled nonplussed. "I didn't tell you I needed someone to help me with anything. Muhsin is enough for me," he concluded but amira's mother still insisted. "Alhaji if my nephew comes, things would be much more easier for you. You don't have to call muhsin all the time. He might not show it to you but with time he will definitely get tired of your errands."
He rest his back against the soft couch and exhaled. He barely let's anything enrage him. His eyes were on the tv as he spoke. "Hajiya, since when did you start caring about my business or anything concerning my life activities?" He inquired. Her eyes widened before she furrowed her brows and ward off her face away. "I'm asking you. When did you start showing your concern? Why are you even bothering yourself about them? What's the worse that could happen? He would ask the girl's hand in marriage? I would be more than glad if he did because your daughter is as good as nothing in his life. So Please, I don't want to hear such thing again if not you'll face my wrath."
She rise to her feet and marched out of his room. If amira or her father wont't cooperate, then she was in no position to bother herself about what might happen since they don't understand what she's afraid of.
The next day, the moment he stepped foot out of the house in the morning, she also got ready and left the house to her closest friend's house, Karima.
Karima has been amira's friend since boarding school. She lived in Borno with her parents before running away and came back to Abuja with the words that "she deserves a better life" and to her mentality, everyone living in Abuja is rich. When she reunited with amira in abuja, she lied to amira that she moved to abuja because she has gotten a job when she haven't even started university left alone doing her service program.
Amira was elite about their reunion. She was always together with karima, asking for advice. All her marital secrets karima knows about everything. All the cloak and dagger happening between amira and her husband, most of it, karima caused it because she was obviously jaundiced about amira's wealth. Most of amira's money goes to Karima saying that she would help her make muhsin to love her, and amira was genuinely dull-witted to understand the true colour of the person she calls her friend, Karima.
She stepped into Karima's apartment same time she was coming out together with a man from her bedroom. Amira stared at the both of them dumb founded. Karima hissed slightly and turned her gaze to him. "You should get going now before you get late," karima spoke, beaming at him. "I'll call you later," he assured before walking passed amira.
"Isn't this the guy you told me he's your uncle?" Amira inquired the moment he left. Karima sent daggers her way before hissing. "Yes he is, so?" She spat. "No, I don't mean anything, I was just asking," she said as she settled down on one of the couches. "Karima I'm so hungry, I didn't eat breakfast. What did you cook?" She asked and karima glared at her. "Why didn't you eat before coming? Coming from someone that has everything they wished to have," she spoke nonchalantly. Amira shrugged it off and still repeated her question. "I'm not going to cook, I have a naming ceremony to attend to," she responded and headed towards her room.
Amira quickly stood up and followed her in. "Whose naming ceremony are you doing to? I want to follow you. I am so tired of staying home all the time." Karima paused before she turned and gawked at amira. "You're going to follow who? No way, amira. This naming ceremony is for rich people... I'm not going with you, that's it," she declared before moving to her closet. She was obviously afraid Amira would dress up more classy than she would.
Amira moved closer to her as she continued begging her. "C'mon karima, if anyone has to follow you there then it should be me. Please, I am begging you." Amira is the type of ladies that has a special spot for events in their hearts. Anything concerning weddings, naming ceremonies, parties.... She will be there at any cost. "Okay fine but under one condition," she spoke. Amira knew it wouldn't end well when karima said that but she eagerly asked. "You will borrow me your golden earrings, necklace, bangles and also the ring to wear," she spoke as she smirked.
