Chapter 45
Few minutes after six, he came back and picked her up. She looked a bit relieved and calm which made him pleased. They were half way the journey with no one speaking a word to the other. He couldn't help but speak up. "You haven't told me what amira did." She gave him a look that meant she had even forgotten about it. "Oh," she murmured. "I..." She thought of million things to say but she couldn't create a lie. "Don't lie to me, Dalia. Just tell me the truth. You have parents and it's not like they can't take care of you so therefore, you can never be treated like a slave."
She suppressed a smile and nodded. "But I don't want to come between you and your wife." He stared at her till she spoke up again. "Okay, okay I will tell you. But please you don't have to say or do anything to her." He slowly nodded waiting to hear what she had to say. She told him all that had happened even though she did it not to make them fight, no, she did it because she made a promise to him. He was silent for more than two minutes before he heaved a sigh. The rest of their ride home was a silent one which made Dalia afraid when his face showed no mercy.
He dropped her off at home and left without saying a word to her. She looked at his car till it disappeared into the streets.
He parked the car in the parking lot same time she was about to step into her car together with karima. She hurriedly step out and shifted back as she looked at him coming out of his car. "Kindly leave my house before I come out now." He glared at karima before he turned his gaze to Amira whose body was already trembling.
"Meet me In my room, now!" He walked away into the house. She looked at karima before she turned and followed him. Karima let out an evil laugh before she turned and started walking towards the gate. She's making progress.
He was already seated on the vanity stool when she came in. "Sit." He pointed at his bed. She settled down where he pointed. "I was just.." He raised his hand and she paused. "Look I won't sit here and waste my time. Be honest with me, what did that girl do to you?" He asked smoothly. She stuttered as she thought of a lie but she knew he might not believe her. "Why did you hit her? Amira, this girl is simply here to help you, she's not your maid. You do not have the right to hit someone's child like she's your slave. Please be careful next time else daddy has to hear about this since you don't take my warnings seriously."
He dismissed her afterwards but she still sat there and burst into tears. "Muhsin why do you hate me this much? What have I done to you please? You're always yelling at me, accusing me..."
"Whoa wait. Accusing you? When have I ever accused you? Amira I don't hate you, I only dislike your behaviours and attitude. Please, it's not too late to change..."
"What do you want me to do? You know I can't cook or clean. I asked you to hire a maid you refused. Mommy brought this girl to help but you're always condemning me..."
"Amira you are always pushing me to the wall." He stood up from the stool and walked over to her. he knelt down in front of her and slowly held her shoulders. "Please, change, not just for me but for our unborn babies. I am begging you now, please." Her sobs diminish before he enfold her in a hug. His embrace was warm, and his big, strong arms seemed very protective when wrapped around her frail body. The world around her melted and she found herself snuggling up to him closer. Sometimes all she needed was a hug.
"How comes I am just finding out about this, Anwar? Do you know what this can cause for me, for all of us? We might go out of business.... Who am I kidding we're already going out of business if we do not act fast on this." He went through the files again before he settled his eyes on his trembling manager. "They robbed us, they really did. And I might go bankrupt. For crying out loud if the CEO is not available to supervise his goods, who is supposed to?"
Anwar stood there still, agitated as he waited for the worst. He had no excuse for what he had caused. "When did you sign this contract? Why didn't you tell me about it? Or have you forgotten about the rules? If it's a huge deal I have to go through it first and we have to create a meeting with the buyers, and they have to at least pay half the money before we give them our goods but you carelessly gave it to them without my acknowledge. Now where are the bloody people? They ran away! With goods worth millions. Can you pay the debts?"
Muhsin felt the panic begin to rise like a cluster of spark plugs in his abdomen. Tension grew in his face and limbs, his mind couldn't think of one solution for his problem. His breathing became more rapid, more shallow. The thoughts accelerated inside his head. "Get out!" He muttered through gritting teeth. "Sir please...." "Anwar, get out!" He jolted back before he quickly walked out of his Muhsin's office.
He picked up his phone from the desk, with trembling hands, he dialled Yusuf's number. Within few minutes, Yusuf showed up in his office. "What happened? I was just close by when you called me. What's wrong?" He settled down on the visitor's seat as he waited to hear why muhsin was looking distressed.
