Chapter10:Killer
Once dinner is out of the way, most of us head to Church. Since the attacks from the Outfit, the Club installed better security.
The basement where we held our club meetings was the only place that didn't have an alternative security system installed. The room came soundproofed and already installed with top end security. We also equipped it with our Clubs food and a few other medical supplies plus ammunition if we ever had to use it as a panic room.
But with almost 17 fully patched members LIVING here, we had to think about extending this place. Because fuck, it was getting full.
I switch the air conditioner on as River finally settles his ass down. Storm, Bull and Frost were not joining us. Since Bull was on baby duty, he was upstairs with Sienna and Natasha. Storm and Frost were on their way to meet another client. The trip was a 3 hour drive to the meeting place. Frost was the best one we had when it came to negotiations.
"What do we have?" River asks Zero getting straight down to business.
"Where do I start, they have a rap sheet so long, I'm going to need a week to finish it? Unless some brothers are up for a bit of research the next day or so." I watch Zero from my shadowed part of the room. He has changed, married life has changed him. The brother was always falling for new women when I met him, but all he really wanted was a family to call his own. The Club gave him most of it, and when Beggar walked into his life, she filled in the rest. They were both broken and went through a fuck load just to be together. At one stage I was convinced Beggar was going to have to stay on the road with me, after she killed Zero's brother. He didn't deserve her so I didn't mind at the time, but I saw how the distance affected her and although she seemed fine on the outside, she was dying slowly on the inside. So I got involved and broke a fuck ton of laws to get her back on this side.
Turned out well for them.
Snake and Spade take up his rare, the two looking agreeable to assist him.
"Email me the file, I'll start with it," Snake says. His extremely quiet recently. More so since he went home. Why he kept going back to Liston Hills boggled my mind. His brother stayed in L. A and his parents were the nastiest of scum to walk the planet.
Snake and I grew up together, we joined the army together and fuck; we fought together and here we are still together. Yet, I never understood his need to be wanted. He reminds me of Sienna. She always wanted attention, even if it was getting shouted at, or suspended from school. Growing up, she would do something like replace the history teacher's flask with an identical one that was filled with whiskey. And the man was a recovering alcoholic.
I never understood her deep innate desire to attract attention, but then I never had the emotional intelligence to do so. When I joined the army, they taught me how to use other parts of my body, and its responses to understand human emotions. It helped a lot when it came to my family. Especially my sisters. I still called Victoria like clockwork on a Sunday. She was touring in New York, her band was doing well, and she was at the beginnings of Super stardom.
She never could understand me, so I always smiled with her, cracked a few jokes and gave her a few hugs. But Frost, she always knew. From the time I was a boy, and I fell off the tree, my sister knew that I was different and like the person she is now, she was then.
She looked for solutions and ignored the problem. She was my first emotional response teacher and while the army taught me that it was okay to not feel, Frost taught me it wasn't always okay.
It affected my mother the most, and I always said one day I would marry a woman and give her a few grandkids to make her happy. She would definitely get off my back by then.
"There was something that made little sense when I pulled up The Chainsaw MC, bank records. I've sent all of you a copy. According to Natasha she only met up these guys a few weeks back, on the 3rd of February, it was two days before that, did I notice a rather large deposit made its way to their account. 500k, to be exact. That's a lot of dough for a 36 member club to collect when previously the most they ever got in one deposit was 80k. I've been trying to follow the trail, but it's going to take me a day. Whoever made the deposit doesn't want to be found, I might even have to get Michael Stone to help with this."
"I'll give you 18 hours, get Chadley and Talin to sleep here if they want to or I'll send one of the brothers to be an extra for the evening," River says and Zero agrees.
An extra was another word for keeping Chadley sane. We patched Chadley in a year ago. We decided we'll keep her as our home girl. She wasn't cut out for the hard life and after she got shot; it cemented our decision. The girl preferred watching the kids and making dinner rolls and other shit. She took over the kitchen most days. Recently the Club has had an influx of jobs and we've been handing some to the other charters just to keep up.
It was good for business, but National was feeling the pinch with the excess of travelling. I came back to Kanla every few months because this was ultimately where my home was. My sister was stuck here for the next 2 years and until then so was I. Once that time was over, Frost and I would be on the road for a while, after we went back to Liston Hills.
"You think it could have been a hit?" Venus asks sitting next to Texas by the air-con. She's changed a lot since our old President betrayed the club. Venus loved Rounder, but she knew the man had to atone for his sins. The biker life was fast and exciting to many, but it was harsh. The rules we stood by didn't favor any of us. We followed them or we paid the price.
Many of us in this room knew first-hand the price of betrayal. We all experienced it. Some of us, like Texas, Snake and myself, experienced it together. I watch an entire camp get blown up by a woman who married a soldier, only to kill an entire camp. She survived, and I asked her why. She said it was the price of taking her boy; the kid was only 5, and although I understood, her price was too high so I snapped her neck.
"Nah, she's Marcus Brays daughter, only Lucca is stupid enough to do that. I think they were trying to scare daddy and someone pissed them off. We might need to give Marcus a call and see if there are any enemies he has lurking about," Spade adds.
"None," Snake answers, and he is correct.
"A man like Marcus always has enemies," River says, rubbing a hand on his face. The man was getting old fast. Guess marrying Hannah came with old age. The woman was perfect for River, because she kept him inline but she was a firecracker and when she exploded so did he. They loved each other, but River had an air for control and Hannah had a knack for using that air to piss him off.
"Nope, Marcus's enemies are dead, or too fucking scared to do anything," Snake says, and again he is correct. I know, I KILLED most of them along the years.
"I've been wondering, what the fuck could have ticked them off so much they left her with the dead guy and vanished? That just doesn't gel with me," Zero rubs at his scar a sign something isn't adding up.
I already have my suspicion about that, but I never talk until I have the facts. Natasha is not someone I'm keen on talking to just yet. I needed to keep my eye on Sienna; I suspected she had much bigger fish to catch, and I was going to enjoy the trip. We didn't get to talk in the car; I knew she was in pain, and when she got back, I presumed she needed space. But she can't hide forever.
"Natasha isn't telling us the rest of the story. The girl is cute, but she can't lie to save her life. Frost said she'll handle Natasha," River says.
"Either way, Prez, I set up a meeting with the President of the Chainsaws. The MC is notorious for shooting first and asking questions later," Zero says.
"Okay, I'll send After and Mercy to be our shadows, make sure you take those fuckers out if they so much as blink wrong." After's response is a flick of her knife.
"Let Frost and Knight do the talking," I tell River.
"Okay. Killer you and Snake can go to Seattle see if Gabriel DeMarco is going to be a long time issue. I suggest you meet with Marco too," River says.
"And the bounty?" Texas asks.
"We keep Natasha here for now. Marcus wants his daughter safe. Once the shits settled we hand her back to him."
The meeting carries on and we discuss the pandemic that started affecting certain parts of the country and the entire world.
I tune them out as my mind recalls all the recent conversations I've had. If Sienna is here now looking for Diamond, surely she must know that Diamond is back from the secure location she was stuck in. Why didn't Sienna just go to her? I never thought about that, unless it wasn't Diamond she was looking for. I knew I needed to talk to her and find out what was going on.
Once the meeting is wrapped up, I go straight to Sienna's room. I knock and surprise hits me when Natasha opens the door. It's almost 10 at night.
Her back goes ramrod straight, and she looks at me in equal parts shock and something else I don't want to decipher.
Her blue hair is shorter than the last time we met. Her face is bruised, with swelling on her left jaw. I'm a firm believer that most of the time we are responsible for what happens to us.
"Who is it?" Sienna asks in that strong high deep note voice she's always had.
"It's Killer," Natasha says as she takes a step aside to let me in. The room looks good. It was one of the 5 left after we extended the Clubhouse. The next two bedrooms on the right were After and Mercy's and the one on the left was empty.
Sienna didn't know this, but the Club made an informed decision to install cameras inside the bedroom. One by the kid's cot and two on either side of the bedroom corners. It wasn't for spying, but more to protect her. I had a feeling the DeMarco's would not play nice with securing the child.
Sienna is on the bed, covered partially with a sheet. Her attention is on Kaleb, who lying next to her, kicking his tiny feet. The kid is already showing signs of being a busybody. I walk in and take a seat by her feet, ignoring the woman standing behind me.
"How's the pain? Hannah said she gave you something to assist?" I noticed the pills still sitting on the bedside the moment I walked in. Which means she hasn't taken it.
She puts her lips together, looking uncomfortable, which I find odd.
"It's fine," She mumbles playing with Kaleb's feet.
I take a deep breath and tilt my head, "Natasha, excuse Sienna and I for a moment."
"Ah.."
"No, she's alright where she is," Sienna responds.
"Get out," My voice comes out harsh and Natasha jumps and flees, which always worked on her when she was a kid. Victoria and she would climb the trees, spying on Jace and me to get extra pocket money from David.
Natasha closes the door, and Sienna glares at me.
"That was awfully harsh, don't you think?" She asks, but it isn't really a question, it's more of an observation. A correct one.
"I want to know what the fuck is going on with you, and before you tell me nothing, I saw your letter and I read it. So the kid is Gabriel's and I take it since he is in prison and you went ace out to play knight and shining fucking armour pregnant and alone, there's bad blood there. SO you better start talking."
She drops her eyes and stares at Kaleb. He changes by the hour, but I don't see his dad in him.
"He went to prison, and his father decided he wasn't happy with a half-blooded Grandchild from their future boss, so I got the fuck out of there." So they don't want the kid? I wonder at the accuracy of that statement.
I knew when Vincent was 10 his mother insisted he be a vital part of the Famiglia. And a made-man was what he became, only to meet an early death by a Texan Belle with a gun. My sister shot my brother in the heart, 3 times.
My brother was many things, but a full Italian wasn't one of them. What my father ever thought when he decided to stick his dick there was beyond me. It seemed like his past mistakes really were falling on his children. Our family was too intertwined with the Catelli Famiglia, and we needed to change that. And whether or not I ADMITTED it, Sienna was part and parcel of that family.
"Was this before or after they found out you killed his brother and Uncle?"
"Well, that part they found out a few weeks ago, and it wasn't only me, so if you think Marco is going to want revenge think again," She says keeping her gaze on her kid. And that surprises me. Because why the fuck would Marco be involved with taking out his own people? He was already the Capo Dei Capi. Unless there was someone else who was involved.
I look up at her, and she looks at me for a moment and I see the unspoken words. Deciding to drop that part for now, I focus on the matter at hand.
"So were you going to tell us?" I have to ask the question.
"No, I was going to leave and get my kid out of America," Sienna's honesty has always been something I had a hard time believing, she's a fantastic liar. But I believe her. After finding the passport in her backpack, she left in the car it would be silly not to.
"So basically you were going to run away?"
"Well, not just yet. I need to find Diamond first, she's in danger. Killing them doesn't solve the problem she made with the Bratva, when she martyred herself to save your brother. But I am sure you already know that. So she will join me."
"Because of the file?" She's been a delight at answering my questions so far, so I give it a shot.
"The file?" Her face is blank.
"Surely you know what I am talking about. The document that has all the identities of the special-Forces and their operations. And the list of Team 5," I know I am lying it on thick, and cajoling her answers out of her is not off the table.
She smiles, and it is a very calm one, considering I JUST asked about the one thing many men would kill to have.
"You think I want to find Diamond because she has a file with that info?" She laughs and shakes her head.
"It isn't a file that has that information, Killer," She informs me as she wraps Kaleb in her blanket.
"What are you talking about?" I'm genuinely curious what she knows. This implicates many people. Dangerous people who would kill her and Diamond.
"Do you honestly think the Frankfurts were stupid enough to keep a file?"
"If it isn't a file then what is it?"
She smiles, and it isn't a good one as her light green eyes hold my mind at a standstill.
"Like I would tell you?" Her face is unbelieving, as if she thinks I am crazy.
"I was hoping so, since your life depends on it," My hand goes to the chain dangling from my leather pants.
"If you think I fear dying, well, you are more stupid than I initially thought. If that's all you can leave."
"Actually it is not," I carry on, "Natasha is hiding something, we need to get it out of her. So heal up crazy girl and find out what she isn't telling us, because if the Chainsaw MC comes after her, it's going to affect you as much as us." I look at Kaleb to get my message across, and although she says nothing. The slight tick in her jaw says more than her words would. Natasha didn't mention everything to Sienna either.
"I'm done now, sleep tight." I walk out and find Natasha in the passage, and she says nothing, but I know she was listening in.
