Chapter 27
Joshua woke up feeling a little better. He looked at his cell phone and checked the time. It's already past twelve AM. He needs to take his medicine.
He looked at the woman beside him. Carla is leaning on the wall, obviously asleep. He decided to not wake her up, so he just took the medicine on the table beside the bed. There's also a glass and a pitcher full of water to help him drink the medicine.
He looked at Carla once again. She's sleeping soundly, and maybe she really is feeling comfortable on that position. But Joshua still feels like she should properly lie down. So he carefully and slowly moved her so she could lie down on the bed. She moved and Joshua suddenly panicked. Thankfully, she just moved to her side for her to lie more comfortable.
Joshua smiled as he saw that Carla is already sleeping soundly. He then laid down on the bed, facing her. Now that they were face to face, Joshua wondered if Carla would have allowed that if she's not totally lost in dreamland. Probably not.
Staring at her face, she really is very cute. It seems like his high school crush became more beautiful as she matured through the years. He wondered what had happened to her all those years, and what made her the amazing woman she is right now.
Those were the questions he has in his mind as he dozed off once again. He doesn't want to, as he still wants to continue looking at Carla's beautiful face. But it seems the paracetamol is really making him drowsy. He concluded he certainly hates paracetamol.

It was past six AM when Carla woke up. As she opened her eyes, Joshua's handsome face took over her vision. She immediately sat up because of that. She started to panic.
What is she doing lying down beside Joshua? She looked at him. He's still sleeping soundly, and nothing looks different except for the fact that he was facing her. She remembered him lying on his back as he sleeps soundly before she dozed off herself. So how come he's facing her right now?
But what she cannot resolve is why she is lying beside him. What happened? It's quite impossible for her to be dragged down the bed. And if she'll lay down herself, then maybe she would definitely know about it. So, how come she didn't know what happen? Why can't she remember how she ended up sleeping on that position?
She felt him move. She looked at him and found out he's starting to wake up. She suddenly felt alarmed. What if he finds out that a while ago, their faces are so near they are almost touching? What will he think? He might even suspect she intentionally moved for that to happen, especially because she said something quite inappropriate last night.
Sensual…
She flinched at the memory. Why did she ever say that word?
'Good morning…"
She slowly opened her eyes. Joshua is now sitting up on the bed.
'Hi…" She moved a little because they are too close again. 'Ah… How do you feel?" She tried to focus on her patient to forget whatever awkward thing that happened a while ago.
Joshua checked how he is feeling. 'So much better." He smiled at her.
Her heart suddenly raced when she saw his smile. 'Uh…" She looked away, trying to figure out what to do. She found the thermal scanner on the bedside table, took it and used it on Joshua. His temperature is 36.7 degrees.
'I think you're good," she said. 'Your temp is normal, but you still need to take paracetamol and rest."
'Ugh! I hate paracetamol," Joshua complained. 'Oh, by the way. I laid you down last night. I just thought you feel quite uncomfortable on your position. You might get a stiff neck."
So he's the one who put her on that position? And there she was panicking on how it happened, worried that Joshua might suspect her doing something inappropriate! Anger is slowly taking over her, when Joshua spoke.
'Or stiff back? I don't know… Please don't judge me. I don't have any medical background."
Carla suddenly laughed even though nothing is funny with what he said. Maybe because his joke is very corny? Or, was he even joking? It's so confusing it's funny.
They suddenly heard someone knocking at the door.
'Doctor! Doctor Carla, are you there?"
Carla immediately stood up. In just a second she was able to get out of the bed.
'Ahm… Yeah! Yeah, I'm here…! Come in, it's open."
The door opened, and Carmen went inside the room.
'Good morning!" she greeted the two.
'Good morning…" Carla answered. She's suddenly panting and she doesn't know why. Was it because her heart is racing because she is very nervous?
As for Joshua, he just smiled at Carmen.
'We thought you already left," Carmen said to Carla.
'Well… I-I was just checking the patient…" Why is she suddenly frantic?
'Your pillows and blankets are not on the sofa."
Carla was dumbfounded. Why does she suddenly felt ashamed that Carmen will know that she slept inside the room with Joshua, when it was her who suggested that in the first place?
'She slept here last night."
Carla turned to Joshua. WHY DID HE TELL THAT TO CARMEN?!
'She was monitoring my condition," Joshua explained. 'That's why she slept here with me."
'I slept at the other end, sitting up," Carla snapped in. 'Leaning! Leaning against the wall… We were not side by side. Yes, we're not together. "
Carmen stared at Carla in surprise. What is going on, and why does the good doctor seem alarmed?
'Okay…" Carmen just said. 'We will prepare breakfast so you can go home early."
'No need!" Carla refused. 'Ahm… it's okay. We'll just leave."
'Carla is right," Joshua agreed. 'You've helped us too much already."
'It' okay, don't worry," Carmen said. 'I'll go to the kitchen now." She went out of the room.
'I'll help them… in preparing breakfast…"
Joshua could do nothing but look at Carla as she scrambled out of the room. Why does she seem so anxious? He just shook his head and stood up as well. He started making the bed to somehow return the help given to them by Gustin and Carmen's family.
