Chapter 57
Ria felt relieved after hearing Joshua's story of what happened last night. Fortunately, she didn't say anything that might implicate her. Well, almost. But at least, she didn't directly say the truth that Joshua eventually uncovered himself.
"So Ri, it's true, right? Carla is my red thread?"
If only she can confirm Joshua's speculation, Ria has already done it. But as Joshua said last night – rules.
"You know I can't answer that question," is what Ria managed to say.
"But..." Joshua looked frustrated again. "Can't you at least give me a hint?"
"Josh, what confirmation do you still need? You said yourself that you're in love with Carla, and you know a Cupid will only fall in love with his red thread. So...?"
Actually... It's like the confirmation that he needs, right? Only, it was not directly said to him, but it still means the same thing.
Somehow, Joshua felt fulfilled with that explanation. The excitement that he was feeling earlier as she drove to Ria's house to see Carla slowly came back. He actually wanted to see her since last night.
"I'm surprised you didn't rush here last night," Ria said.
"I actually wanted to go last night. But then, I thought my emotions are high, and I might say anything that I should not say," Joshua explained.
"Good thinking," Ria said.
"But if Carla is my red thread, I can tell her everything, right?" asked Joshua.
"Yes, but do you think she will believe you?"
But of course. Joshua is not even sure she'll listen to him if ever he tried talking to her. She might not even want to look at him.
"You know, there's a way that you can make her see a red thread," Ria suddenly said.
Joshua looked back to her.
"You just need to touch her, then think that she can see what you can see. Not only your red thread, but also the angels and spirits. Everything that a Cupid can see. The only thing is, you will experience great exhaustion because in a way, you are sharing your life force with her."
"But, if I can make her see what I can see, she still cannot see our red thread. I can't even see it myself, right?" Joshua asked.
"There is a way..."
Joshua gazed at Ria.
"It's possible for a Cupid to see his red thread."
"Why didn't you tell that to me before?" Joshua felt kind of annoyed with what Ria said.
"Well, because I thought you will use it with Caith. Then you will instantly find out that she is not your red thread. Then you will be depressed, and God knows what might happen then."
"What difference does it make if I will get depressed sooner?"
"Joshua, if that's what happened, then you will not do the date on the premier of your movie. You will not have a chance to talk to Carla and resolve your past. You see? Everything will be a mess and nothing will happen."
Joshua suddenly thought of something. "Are you our Cupid?"
"Again, you're asking me a question that I cannot answer," Ria told him again.
"Oh, come on! You are our Cupid."
"Joshua, Cupids don't need Cupids. Remember? Their hearts will not fall in love with just anyone else."
Well, she has a point. But surely, there might be something that she did that helped him get closer to Carla?
"But... Cupids can help Cupids, especially if Destiny asked them to," Ria said with a smile.
Joshua smiled as well. "You made it rain in Brgy. Loria, didn't you?"
"Nope," Ria said. "That was legit summer rain."
"Really?" Joshua asked, not believing what she said.
"I'm telling you the truth," Ria said. "All I did was throw tantrums so that we can go home early, and you and Carla will be left out alone together."
Joshua smirked. "Ah... You know, you can be an actress. Your acting was on point."
Ria smiled confidently. "Coming from an A-list actor like you, I will believe that compliment."
"Believe it," Joshua said. "But, how about the story you said in the interview about the photo? You know, the one I bought from Carlo's exhibit."
"Ah! That was also pure coincidence."
"Really?" This time, Joshua does not want to believe her.
"Joshua, I don't lie. I can't lie. If I tell you that I didn't do it, then I didn't."
"Okay, I'll believe you. I have no choice, right?"
Ria smirked. "Joshua, there might be some things that I did to help you realize you have fallen for Carla. Let's not mention them one by one."
"Okay... but, you said I can see my red thread." Joshua said.
"You have to kiss Carla."
Joshua kind of liked that idea. "She's in your room, right? And she's sleeping?"
"What's this, Sleeping Beauty? You think this is a fairy tale?"
Joshua just smiled.
"I can't let you get to my room and kiss Carla. Do you even realize that she might not even want to see you right now?"
Joshua's smile slowly faded.
"Let me talk to her first. Don't worry, I won't tell her how you feel. You're the only one who has the right to tell that to her. Maybe I'll just give her a hint of how you really feel."
Joshua can do nothing but follow Ria's suggestion. He doesn't want to leave his friend's house, but he has no choice but to go home for the meantime and wait.

Carla's head feels like it's about to break when she woke up. She instantly remembered what happened last night, and her head ached more when he realized the foolishness she did.
She looked around and recognized Ria's room. So that's where she slept last night? But, where is Ria? She looked around to look for her, but Carla did not find her friend.
She suddenly noticed an opening at the back of the headboard. Behind the wood slats wall is a staircase. She looked up, and she kind of heard someone talking.
She went to the stairs, and out of curiosity, she climbed up. She went to a spacious room filled with books and other reading materials. Near the windows, she saw Ria sitting at an executive chair. She was talking to someone that Carla could not see, making her frown and feel more curious as to what her former classmate is up to.
