Chapter 63
"Lunch has been served."
That was Dianne. Everyone looked at her, and those who are still stooping or sitting down by the bunch of letters on the floor stood up.
"Let's go to the dining room. The maids will come here to fix that mess."
"So Mayor, don't think of secretly pocketing a letter, okay?" Mark joked.
"I didn't take any letter!" Jovie said, acting like she was offended a little.
Everyone laughed at how Jovie reacted. Then they all followed Dianne to the dining room. The theme of the grandiose dining room is the same with that of the living room. There is a twenty-two-seater table in the middle, and almost half of it is full of food.
"Woah! This lunch is a-mazing!" Jovie commented.
"It's because you're here, Mayor," Dianne said. "Come on and sit down."
Everyone sat down at the huge dining table. That's when they realized that one seat is vacant.
"Where's Ria?" Dianne asked.
"Maybe she's still in the library," James said. "She kind of looked a little engrossed with her grandfather's letters. Brought back memories, I guess."
"I'll go get her," Joshua told them.
Everyone just looked on as Joshua went out of the dining room to go back to the library.
****************************************************************************
James was right when he said that Ria is still in the library, but he was wrong about the part that she is still there because she was engrossed in his grandfather's letters, that's why she didn't come with them to the dining room. Because the truth is, she really waited for them to leave because she wants to talk to someone whom her former classmates should not see.
"Okay, you can come out now."
Ria waited for a while, but no one went out.
"I know you're still there, so come out now. Please? I just like to talk to you."
Ria waited again and this time, those whom she wants to talk to came out. They were two angels, a girl and a boy, and they came out from the top of the bookshelf where the box that fell down earlier was located. The two cherubs are dressed in white and if they will be compared to a human kid, they might be three to four years old each. Well, they really looked like little kids except for the little wings at their back.
"How did you know that we are still here?" asked the girl angel.
"Because you cannot leave until your mess has been fixed," Ria said, then pointed to the cluster of letters on the floor. "Or else, you will be reprimanded by D, right...? D, as in Destiny, not Dianne."
"So you know that as well?" said the girl angel.
"Well, I've been a Cupid for quite some time now," Ria said to her. "But, why did you do that?"
"It was Pio's idea," answered the girl angel.
"Why me?" asked the boy cherub who was named Pio, according to her female companion.
"You said we need to help your mommy and daddy to fall in love with each other," said the girl cherub to Pio.
Mommy and daddy? In love? "Wait! Who are you, Pio?" asked Ria. "Who are your parents?"
"Carla and Joshua. Well, I just said that because it's taking too long for them to fall for each other. I want to be born and be a human baby already," Pio said. "Sophie's parents are already in love with each other."
Ria looked at the girl cherub. "Sophie?"
"Yes. I will be the child of Edmalyn and Carlo," said the girl angel.
"Oh..." Ria nodded, indicating her understanding. She smiled as she realized the mischief of the two angels. "Pio, you know your dad can see you, right?"
Pio scowled.
"So you just cannot do those kinds of trick," Ria said. "He might use his Cupid radar and he might see you. Also, don't you have faith in me?"
Pio gazed at Ria.
"Promise. I'll do everything for your parents to immediately fall in love with each other, so that you will become a human baby as soon as possible."
"Yes, she's really good," Sophie said to Pio. "Look at what she did with my mommy and daddy."
Ria smiled. "Well, thank you, Sophie."
Sophie smiled back at Ria.
"So, don't worry about your parents, Pio. I will take care of them."
Pio smiled. "Thank you." Suddenly, his smile faded as he sensed something. "Daddy's coming!"
Ria also felt alarmed. "Go hide!"
As the two cherubs hid again on top of the bookshelf, the door of the library opened. Joshua entered and immediately found Ria.
"Ri!" He went to her.
Ria turned to face him. "Josh!"
"I came to get you." He looked up at the bookshelf.
"What are you looking up there?" Ria asked.
Joshua looked at her. "Well, Dianne said the box could not have fallen that easily..."
"And?"
He looked at her. "Are you seeing ghosts here right now?"
Ria suppressed her laughter as she saw her friend's scared reaction.
"Why don't you see yourself?" she asked.
Joshua was stunned. "So, Dianne's grandfather is really here?"
This time, Ria wasn't able to suppress her laughter. "You're really afraid of ghosts."
"Ri..."
"Okay, fine!" Ria stopped herself from laughing. "No, there are no ghosts here. Just... two impatient and mischievous cherubs."
Joshua gaped at her.
"You know cherubs? Baby angels? But no, they're not on nappies. There are dressed properly."
"Here?" Joshua looked around.
Ria suddenly felt nervous at what Joshua did. Joshua should never see Pio. She needs to take him out of that place.
Fortunately, the maids arrived to take care of the old letters that are still on the floor. Ria led Joshua out of the library.
"Yes," she answered on Joshua's question earlier.
"So, angels grow up, too?"
"No. Cherubs become human babies. You know when they say that babies are angels?"
Joshua stopped in front of Ria. "But you said angels were never humans."
"They can't be angels again after they died as humans."
Joshua contemplated on what she told him.
"You know, let's just go and everyone is surely waiting for us," Ria just said.
They proceeded to the dining room and joined their other friends for the sumptuous lunch.
