38. "What Do You Want To Do?"
Today, Fabian and Stellina's condition had started to improve. In Fabian's room, Diego stood with Stellina and the doctor who examined Fabian's condition.
"The patient's condition has improved, so there is no need to extend the hospitalization period. All medicines have been prepared and can be purchased at the hospital pharmacy upon payment." The doctor explained to Diego after checking Fabian's condition for the umpteenth time. Just to make sure Fabian could really go home.
Diego and Stellina breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn't just Stellina's condition that had improved after fainting yesterday. Now Fabian could even sit up and his body was no longer as weak as it had been three days in a row yesterday.
Fabian, who was holding one arm wrapped in a cast, then smiled a little. So did Stellina. Meanwhile, Diego folded his hands in front of his chest and looked at Fabian rather annoyed.
"Did you hear? You've finally recovered. After this, you have to be more careful," Diego said, warning Fabian.
Hearing Diego's warning made Fabian chuckle and nod his head. Diego didn't say anything else, just bowed briefly to thank the doctor.
"I'm out." The doctor gave a formal smile to Diego, Stellina, and Fabian.
After the doctor stepped away from them and left the room, Diego then approached Fabian. Diego firmly tapped Fabian on the shoulder.
"You should know that the cost of surgery to remove the bullet in your hand is very high." Diego was actually just joking, as he and Fabian had always done.
Fabian just nodded as Diego patted his shoulder. He chuckled, not offended at all.
"Ah, well, I'm sorry, Mr. Diego," Fabian replied with a contrite expression.
Diego gave him a final pat that was firmer than before. So Fabian groaned loudly as he twisted his body.
"If you don't recover quickly, I'll fire you as my confidant. It's hard to find a confidant, you know?" Diego looked at Fabian with his sharp eyes as he stepped away from Fabian's presence.
Stellina who witnessed the interaction between the two of them was almost speechless. Her chuckle was heard, but only briefly. It was a little unexpected that Diego's attitude would be this soft now. Although it was likely that Diego's tough attitude would return the next day.
Stellina immediately said, "So, who will drive the car?"
Picking up the motorcycle keys from the table under the television, Diego replied, "Me. Fabian's hand is still in that condition. If it gets hurt again, it will cost money for a second surgery."
Luckily, Stellina and Fabian were used to and tolerated Diego's way of speaking. Hearing the sarcasm in those words, Fabian suddenly laughed again briefly.
"I'm very grateful to you, Mr. Diego. I think I have a very kind boss." Fabian deliberately replied with a flattering facial expression, as if throwing back Diego's joking bait.
Diego just sighed while curling his lips downward. On the other hand, Stellina immediately shook her head because she couldn't understand the behavior of the two of them.
"Instead of you two having to throw implicit insinuations at each other, let's go home." Stellina intervened with her arms folded and cynical eyes. Taking turns looking at Diego and Fabian.
Without prolonging the conversation anymore, the three of them finally left the hospitalization room. Diego took care of the payment directly before they all headed to the parking lot.
As Diego said, today he drove the car.
-----
Diego's car had stopped at the car stop. In front of the entrance of the mansion, the bodyguards on guard immediately came over. They immediately opened the door, about to help carry Fabian, but Fabian refused their help.
"No need, thank you. But my legs can still walk," Fabian said to the bodyguards at the entrance of the mansion.
Diego was already downstairs. So did Stellina. Both of them immediately approached Fabian to step inside.
At that moment, for some reason, Stellina immediately felt enthusiastic about meeting Arianna. Throughout her steps into the mansion building, Stellina had been casting her eyes around. A sparkling smile curved her face as she couldn't wait to see Arianna again.
"Diego, is Arianna not there-"
"MAMA!"
Stellina's words were immediately interrupted after hearing a girl's scream. From a few meters away, the figure of Arianna ran hurriedly towards Stellina. There was Gina, the nanny, who was overwhelmed by Arianna's pursuit. But their smiles were equally wide as they welcomed Stellina's arrival.
"That's Arianna," Diego said to Stellina's unfinished question.
Stellina only glanced at Diego with an enthusiastic smile. After that, Stellina immediately walked quickly after Arianna's arrival. She stretched her arms out in front of her, and then sat down on her knees.
"Arianna!" Stellina called back.
Arianna slammed into Stellina's body and held on tightly. There was worry and fear on Arianna's face. Her two small hands seemed unwilling to let go of Stellina for the umpteenth time.
"Have you been waiting for mom for long?" asked Stellina next to Arianna's ear.
Although she did not make a sound, Stellina could feel Arianna nodding her head. Arianna held Stellina tighter until her feet were on tiptoes.
"Mama, why are you in the hospital again..." Arianna's voice sounded shaky. Like she was going to cry in a matter of seconds.
Stellina patted Arianna's back to calm her down. Then slowly, Stellina grabbed both of Arianna's shoulders and released the hug.
Stellina was surprised to realize that Arianna's eyes had turned red. There were tears welling up in her eyes.
"Hey, are you crying?" Stellina panicked, spontaneously standing upright and wiping Arianna's cheeks. "Why are you crying? Mama is fine. Look, she's right in front of you now. She's not sick at all."
It seemed that Stellina's words could not affect Arianna. Instead, Stellina saw a single tear slide down Arianna's right cheek as her face grew more pitiable. Then within seconds, Arianna was sobbing.
"Mama... I'm scared... don't go to the hospital again." Arianna struggled to speak as her voice was already trembling. Her shoulders sobbed as her crying became more intense.
Stellina curved a thin, soothing smile. Seeing Arianna like this made her heart cut a little. No answer came out of Stellina's mouth, just a nod of her head in agreement.
"Yes, Arianna. Mama won't be sick anymore. Now she's healthy, really. Already, yes. Don't be too sad anymore." Stellina tried to explain gently and give Arianna an understanding.
Although Arianna was still crying, she nodded obediently at Stellina's words.
After that, with a chuckle, Stellina brought Arianna into her arms once more. Instead of calming down, Stellina suddenly felt uncomfortable. Gradually, Stellina felt something welling up in her eyes as pain throbbed in her chest.
"I love you so much, Mommy," Arianna said to Stellina.
Hearing that made Stellina remember that she was not the real Vellina. Which meant she was not Arianna's biological mother. Her heart broke because Arianna so innocently cared for and loved her mother. Why was it that throughout her life, Vellina could not love this girl properly?
Gradually, tears fell down Stellina's right cheek. She was sensitive these days and was easily provoked by all kinds of emotions.
Meanwhile, from behind Stellina and Arianna, Diego watched with a moved face. Diego had never seen Arianna hug a woman, including Vellina—her own biological mother. But now Arianna could feel the warm embrace of someone other than Diego.
Diego's heart warmed at the sight of Stellina and Arianna. Unable to resist, the corners of his lips curled faintly. Forming a faint smile.
"Ah, mother and daughter are the same." That was Diego's comment before nodding at Fabian. As if giving an order for Fabian to rest immediately.
Diego and Fabian stepped away from Stellina and Arianna. Deliberately wanting to provide more intense space for the two of them.
