8. Eston's Big Anger
TOK! TOK! TOK!
Eston's attention immediately shifted towards his study door when a knock sounded. Eston frowned as he waited for the door to open and the figure of the man on his right hand enter the room. The man's face looked worried, as if implying he brought some bad news.
Before the right-hand man was about to speak in detail, Eston raised a palm. Gave the signal to hold off for a while as there was still a call. Eston's right hand man just nodded his head.
"Yes, I'm in Belgium on business right now. Don't try to offer me a business you can't guarantee." Eston said to his business partner on the phone.
Eston occasionally watched his right hand man for a few seconds. At that time, for some reason Eston felt that the man on his right hand was agitated.
"Come on, let's not discuss something that is not important. I have a lot of business here. I'll hang up from you."
Without waiting for a long time and not wanting to hear what his business partner was saying, Eston immediately hung up the phone. Eston put down the cell phone and turned his gaze to the man on his right hand.
"What's wrong? Why do you look so agitated?" asked Eston with curious eyes. The small clear glasses perched on the bridge of his nose were lowered slightly.
"You see, Big Boss..." Eston's right-hand man was a bit hesitant to say that to his boss. "Something happened. It's related to a member of the boss's family."
Instantly, the look on Eston's face, which was originally curious, gradually changed to show concern. Eston immediately stiffened.
"What do you mean? Something happened to my family members?"
"To be precise, it happened to Miss Vellina. Miss Vellina had an accident—"
Suddenly Eston stood up and put down the pen with a bit of a bang. The sudden movement made the man in his right hand flinch in surprise.
Eston took a deep breath. Within seconds, Eston felt a rage. He rubbed his face roughly.
"What kind of news is this? How could my daughter have an accident?!" Eston's voice immediately turned higher as he got angry. Eston eyed the man on his right hand, his jaw tightening.
"I-I don't know, Big Boss Eston. Mr. Diego just gave the news," replied Eston's right-hand man.
Eston immediately put down his pen in annoyance. "Diego! Why can't he take good care of Vellina?!" he grumbled.
"I heard that Miss Vellina's condition is a bit critical, Big Boss Eston. Miss Vellina is unconscious in the Ludovicci hospital."
With a hardened expression of anger, Eston's shoulders heaved. Instantly his mind wandered imagining how his son's condition now. At the same time, Eston had a feeling of annoyance at Diego—before he left for Belgium, he had entrusted his daughter to be taken care of.
"I'm on business here, and there Diego can't take good care of Vellina!" Eston grunted in an annoyed tone of voice.
Eston's right-hand man had a confused look on his face. Because of Eston's suddenly angry attitude, he couldn't say anything. For some reason his lips became silent for a moment.
"Can you book a plane ticket right now? I'm going home."
"But, Big Boss... isn't your work done yet?"
Hearing the words of the man on his right hand, Eston immediately averted his sharp gaze. Eston looked at the man in annoyance, as if deliberately showing firmness in his decision to the man.
"I am. Going home. Now." Eston emphasized each word in his speech. "Order a ticket. I'll call Diego to see how Vellina condition now."
"Yes, Big Boss!"
In the end, Eston's right-hand man could argue no more. He immediately left Eston who was still struggling in the midst of his anger.
Eston couldn't stop thinking about the worst possible scenario for Vellina's current condition. Then, feeling uncomfortable with his own thoughts, Eston took his cell phone. Look for Diego's contacts.
After finding it, Eston immediately called. Luckily Eston's phone calls were answered quickly. In just seconds.
Diego greeted Eston then "Hello Mister Eston."
Hearing Diego's voice alone made Eston's irritation increase. After placing his hands on his waist, Eston immediately groaned in anger.
"Diego, you ... really are incompetent at carrying out my orders." That's what Eston said without thinking about whether to hurt Diego or not.
Diego was silent for a moment. Then, in a low, regretful voice, he replied, "I'm sorry, Mr. Eston. This was not what I expected—"
"Not what you expected, but you should have been able to prevent that accident from happening!" Eston interrupted Diego with a sudden rise in his tone.
All of his anger spilled over to Diego. How come? His work was not done here, and he had only been in Belgium for three days. However, he got the news of Vellina's accident.
Eston had given orders for Diego to guard Vellina. After hearing news of an accident like this, Eston truly felt Diego had betrayed his orders.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Eston. I really feel guilty."
Diego's tone, which was slow and implied sadness, did not necessarily melt Eston's feelings. At that time, Eston's heart was already dominated by feelings of anxiety about his daughter's condition. At the same time thinking about how long the journey will take to quickly go to Ludovicci Hospital.
"You are indeed guilty, Diego. I think you are very responsible as a mafia. Why is taking care of your wife incompetent? What kind of work do you do?" asked Eston who bombarded Diego with all kinds of insults.
Diego immediately did not say anything more. Unbeknownst to Eston, Diego had actually guessed that his father-in-law would give him such offensive words. But Diego has no intention of arguing, fighting or fighting with Eston.
Among all the people Diego might have fought, Eston was the only one who had not been fought.
After pouring out all his frustration, Eston let out a long sigh. Spontaneously his hands stretched out to the table, supporting the weight of his leaning body, lowered his head.
"How is Vellina now?" Eston's voice had softened gradually. Not because he felt sorry for Diego, but because he was worried about Diego's answer about his daughter's condition.
"In a coma, Mister Eston..."
Eston seemed to feel his heart drop that very second. He took a deep breath and exhaled while lifting his head.
"Oh my god... my daughter shouldn't be in a coma if I'm not away on my work matters." Eston complained and once again insinuated Diego about Diego's incompetence in looking after Vellina.
"What did Vellina do before the accident?" asked Eston after complaining.
Diego was still silent for a few seconds. Thinking of the right answer to Eston's question.
"To be honest... I don't know, Mr. Eston."
"You don't know?!" Eston raised his voice again.
"I mean, I've received news that Vellina will be going with her friends. I also ordered two bodyguards to guard her from behind. But it turns out that Vellina knows about bodyguards—"
"Diego! Stop explaining by putting Vellina in a corner! You're the one responsible for the accident here!" Eston suddenly interrupted Diego's explanation without wanting to listen to it all.
At that time, Diego was somewhat surprised by Eston's words, which cut him off quickly. But Diego's surprise did not last long.
Diego's low breath reached Eston's ear.
"I'm telling the truth Mr. Eston...."
Too bad Eston didn't care about Diego's explanation. In his mind now there is only the figure of Diego who is guilty of not being able to carry out his orders properly. What's more, Diego already knows very well, Eston will not play games if the order concerns Vellina—his favorite child.
"I don't care about your explanation, Diego. If indeed Vellina knew that your bodyguard was there and ran away, you should have prevented her from going out with her friends from the start."
On the other side of the phone, Diego just lowered his head while sighing for the umpteenth time. It's not only Eston who has reservations about accepting the fact that Vellina had an accident. But also himself.
"I will take good care of Vellina from now on, Mr. Eston. Mr. Eston can continue his work in Belgium." Diego decided not to explain further. Because Eston wouldn't want to believe it.
Even if what Diego said were facts, for Eston, Vellina was the most important. If injured, then anyone around him will be blamed.
"No. I'll go back there now and leave my work matters to my confidants. We'll meet there, Diego."
