Chapter 39 Going Back
It has been just a few weeks when Dina agreed to marry Carlos and they've got tons of things to prepare, the gown, the rings, the venue, and other things about the wedding. Carlos was agitated as he wanted to give Dina her perfect wedding she didn't have with Rico. He was too happy that he didn't expect what he had declared due to extreme happiness would become true. Carlos received a letter and that letter will change everything… even their supposed to be a happy family.
'Hmn… aren't we too serious today?", Dina teased Carlos when she found him staring blankly to nowhere as if he was lost in his deep thoughts. Carlos wasn't surprised when Dina had joked about it, instead, he turned to dace Dina seriously.
"Dina, do you really trust me?", Carlos asked.
'Of course.", Dina smiled happily.
"If ever I had something really bad and really wrong… do you think you will be able to forgive me?
"Why? Don't tell me you have cheated on me already?", Dina teased Carlos, it made him laughed.
"You know I am not capable of hurting the woman I love.", Carlos replied while seriously staring directly at Dina's eyes.
"See? So, whatever bad, wrong, and whatever it was you thought it would be, I am sure and confident that you did it for my sake. It will never hurt me. I don't know what you're talking about but I assure you, you're already forgiven.", Dina smiled and went over to kiss him on his cheek.
"That's a proof.", Dina smiled to assure him. Dina thought Carlos is having cold feet due to their wedding. Maybe he is scared that she would cancel it and kissing him on his cheek is enough to calm him down.
Carlos felt so good. Dina had become a lot closer to him, she became open and sweet, there's nothing more he could ask for… that's why he became even sadder.
"Dina... I trust you. I believe you won't change your decision.", Carlos said.
"I know, and you know I won't go back against my word.", Dina smiled confidently.
"But Dina... we have to go back.", Carlos blurted out suddenly. Dina wasn't able to grasp what he was trying to imply.
'We should go back home.", Carlos repeated.
'We are HOME.", Dina answered, still confused.
'…In our country.", Carlos clarified. Dina was surprised, she was not expecting this and she was not able to answer back.
"Are you now ready if ever you would come face to face with the Ballestros… with Rico?", Carlos added. Then Dina wasn't able to comprehend what Carlos is saying. Silence had ruled for a moment.
"But why Carlos? Aren't we okay here? If we head back home, I won't be able to marry you. I am still legally married with Rico there.", Dina broke their silence.
"I know. But we have to... and you trust me, right? You trust me that I won't do anything that will hurt you.", Carlos insisted.
"I know… but---"
"Then be at peace.", Carlos assured Dina and caressed her cheek.
"You're so pretty, Dina. I really love you.", Carlos suddenly said and hugged her tightly.
Dina couldn't understand why Carlos is doing this but she felt that he is carrying a burden he just couldn't share. What is his reason why they need to go back? IS Carlos keeping a secret from her? Why is he sad these past few days? These are the questions Dina wanted to ask but she didn't because Carlos is asking for her trust… and that is what she going to give him. She will completely trust this man who loves her so much.
It has been more than three years since she had stepped her foot on her birthplace… and now, she is with her son in her return. She was anxious but she is also happy to see her birthplace.
'Dad! Dad, where is this place? It's so hot. I don't like it here.", Dino frowned while Carlos was carrying him on his back.
"This is where Mom and Dad grew up and meet. And we will be staying here from now on, so better like this place already.", Carlos smiled as he was talking to the child.
"No. I don't like.", The child insisted and Dina laughed with his naughtiness.
"You will like it here just like how Mom and Dad used to like this place when we were young.", Dina tried to convince her son.
"No I won't.", The child still frowned.
"Let's eat some ice cream, I know you want one.", Carlos suddenly said.
"Ice cream? Yehey! I want ice cream! I want ice cream!", Dino happily chanted.
They decided to the first restaurant they saw and it looks expensive. Hoping to buy ice cream desserts to settle Dino's stubbornness, they went inside. They had just gotten in when Dina recognized someone familiar near them.
