Chapter 015
Aiden's POV
I sat in my office, my mind a jumble of conflicting emotions. Frustration, anxiety, and despair swirled together, making it hard to think straight. I felt like I was drowning in a sea of uncertainty, with no lifeline in sight.
Just when things were starting to look up, just when I had found a sense of comfort with Hailey, this stranger showed up, claiming to be her husband. I felt like I had been in the gut, like all the air had been sucked out of me.
As I reflected on my actions, a wave of guilt washed over me. I had lied to Hailey yesterday, and every time I saw her, that pang of guilt gnawed at my conscience. This morning, on our way to the hospital, I felt like I was being selfish and exploitative, preying on an innocent woman who had lost her memory.
A knot of anxiety formed in my stomach as I thought about my motivations. Was I really doing this to protect Hailey, or was I just using her for my own gain? The more I thought about it, the more I felt like I was walking a thin line between right and wrong.
But then, a voice in my head countered my doubts. It was for her own safety, I told myself. If she didn't know who she was or where she came from, she was vulnerable to all sorts of dangers. By pretending to be her husband, I was providing her with a sense of security and stability.
Still, the guilt lingered, refusing to be silenced. I knew I had to find a way to reconcile my actions with my conscience, but for now, I was stuck in this moral limbo.
I thought about my private detective, whom I had hired to investigate this mysterious stranger. Was he telling the truth, or was he just a madman, preying on vulnerable women? I didn't know what to think, or who to trust.
As I sat there, feeling helpless and confused, my eyes landed on a picture on my desk. It was an old photo, one that I had taken with Sandra on our trip to Germany. I stared at it, feeling a mix of emotions boil up inside me.
Rage, anger, and anxiety all swirled together, making my heart pound in my chest. I felt like I was going to explode, like I couldn't contain my emotions any longer.
"She shouldn't have left," I yelled, slamming the picture against the wall. It shattered into a hundred pieces, leaving me with a cut on my hand. But I didn't care. I was beyond pain.
I stood there, staring at the shattered remains of the picture, feeling a wave of grief wash over me. "I really loved her," I whispered, tears streaming down my face.
Maybe if she hadn't cheated on me, maybe if she had been faithful, she would be the one sitting in Hailey's place right now. The thought was a bitter pill to swallow, but it was the truth.
I thought about Sandra, about her golden brown eyes and her perfect skin. She was a model, a stunningly beautiful woman who had captivated me from the moment I met her. But she had cheated on me, betrayed my trust in the worst possible way.
As I stood there, feeling the weight of my emotions, I realized that I still had a long way to go. I was still hurting, still angry, still bitter. But maybe, just maybe, I could learn to let go, to move on from the past and find happiness again.
As Ava rushed into the office, her eyes widened in shock at the sight of the shattered glasses and my bleeding hands. "Aiden?!" she yelled, her voice trembling with concern.
I felt a lump form in my throat as I stared at her, my eyes interpreting my feelings. For a moment, I forgot about the pain and the guilt that had been consuming me. Ava's presence was like a balm to my soul, soothing my frazzled nerves.
Ava's face was etched with worry as she took in the scene before her. "You're bleeding," she said, her voice shaking. "Stay there, stay right there." She rushed out of the room, leaving me feeling helpless and vulnerable.
Minutes later, she returned with a first aid box, her hands moving with a quiet efficiency as she tended to my wounds. I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me as I watched her, her face a mask of concern.
"What has come over you, boss?" she asked, her voice soft and gentle.
I felt a pang of emotion as I looked at her, my eyes locking onto hers. "Aiden... call me Aiden again," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Ava's eyes flickered with surprise, but she nodded, her voice gentle. "Aiden, what's going on? Why did you do this?"
I felt a wave of guilt wash over me as I thought about Hailey, about the lies I had told her, about the way I had manipulated her. I tried to stand up, to brush off Ava's concerns, but she pushed me back down.
'It's fine Ava," I said.
"This isn't fine," she said, her voice firm but gentle.
"It's okay, Ava, I can do it myself," I said, trying to dismiss her concerns.
But Ava's expression changed, her eyes narrowing as she looked at me. "Aiden..." she called out softly, her voice a gentle reprimand.
I felt a wave of emotion wash over me, a mix of guilt, shame, and gratitude. And then, without warning, Ava leaned in and kissed me, her lips soft and gentle against mine.
I felt a jolt of surprise, As Ava's lips touched mine, a wave of emotion crashed over me, threatening to engulf me whole. It was as if a dam had burst, releasing a torrent of feelings that had been pent up inside me for so long.
I felt a rush of adrenaline, a mix of excitement and vulnerability, as I surrendered to the kiss. The tension that had been building up inside me for weeks, maybe even months, finally found release. My emotions, which had been simmering just below the surface, boiled over, and I felt myself getting lost in the intensity of the moment.
The world around me melted away, leaving only Ava and me, lost in the depths of our own emotions. I felt a sense of freedom, of release, as I let go of all my doubts and fears, and simply allowed myself to feel.
