Chapter 052
~~~Ava~~~
I sat beside my father's gravestone, tears streaming down my face as I gazed at the cold, unyielding stone. Months had passed since his death, but the pain still felt like an open wound. It was a harsh reality I couldn't escape, a constant reminder that I was now alone in this unforgiving world.
Just a few months ago, I was basking in the luxuries of wealth, my every whim catered to. But now, I was drowning in debt, struggling to stay afloat. The irony wasn't lost on me; I'd gone from having it all to having nothing.
I'd spent months scouring for a job, but every door I knocked on seemed to slam shut in my face. My qualifications, once a mere formality, had become my lifeline. Without them, I'd be lost, adrift in a sea of uncertainty.
As I sat there, memories of my father's death flooded my mind. I'd done some digging, and the truth was both shocking and devastating. My father hadn't died of natural causes; he'd been murdered, tricked into accumulating debts that had drained our family's wealth.
A wave of anger washed over me as I thought about the person responsible. Were they even human? Did they know my father had a child, a child who'd been left with nothing?
My mind kept circling back to the same question: who could have done this? The answer, or at least a clue, lay in my father's final words: "The Brooklyn." It had to be them.
Determination burned within me. I'd applied for a job as a secretary at Aiden's Entertainment, hoping to infiltrate their ranks and uncover the truth. It was a long shot, but it was a start.
Just then, my phone buzzed, jolting me back to reality. I checked the screen, and a spark of hope ignited within me. I'd received an email offering me the job at Aiden's Entertainment.
I leaped to my feet, a smile spreading across my face. For the first time in months, I felt a glimmer of hope. This job was my ticket to financial stability, and maybe, just maybe, it would lead me to the truth about my father's death.
I dropped the flowers I'd brought for my father on his grave, a sense of resolve settling within me. I ordered a ride back to my small apartment, a place that felt like a constant reminder of my reduced circumstances.
As I climbed the stairs to my apartment, exhaustion and emotion threatened to overwhelm me. But I steeled myself, knowing I had a long and difficult road ahead. I was ready to face it head-on, driven by my desire for justice and my determination to uncover the truth.
Monday morning arrived sooner than I expected, and I woke up with a mix of emotions: excitement, nerves, and a hint of determination. As I prepared for my first day at Aiden's Entertainment, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was about to embark on a journey that would change everything.
I stared at my case board, where I'd connected the dots between Mr. Brooklyn and my father's death. The evidence pointed to him as the mastermind behind it all. My heart swelled with anger and sadness as I thought about how he'd betrayed my father's trust.
With a deep breath, I pushed aside my emotions and focused on the task at hand. I was determined to reveal more about Mr. Brooklyn's involvement in my father's death, and working in his company was the perfect opportunity.
As I arrived at the massive building, I felt a sense of intimidation wash over me. The bold sign on top reading "Aiden's Entertainment" seemed to mock me, reminding me of the challenges ahead.
I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders, and walked inside. The clicking sound of my heels on the marble floor echoed through the lobby as I made my way to the manager's office.
The manager gave me a quick tour of the building, pointing out various sectors and introducing me to a few employees. But I knew I wouldn't be working in any of those areas. My station was elsewhere.
"Where will I be stationed?" I asked, trying to sound calm and collected.
The manager pointed to an office close to the CEO's office. "You'll be working there."
A surge of excitement ran through me. It was perfect. I'd be close to my target, and I could gather more information about Mr. Brooklyn's dealings.
The manager left me to my fate, and I took a moment to compose myself. I walked slowly to my office, scrutinizing the beauty of my desk and dropping off my belongings.
With a deep breath, I made my way to Mr. Brooklyn's office. The door was left open, and I assumed it was because he was expecting me. But as I entered, I was met with a scene that made my heart skip a beat.
A fine, handsome young guy with chiseled features stood inches apart from a woman, their lips almost touching. For a moment, I forgot why I was there, and my eyes lingered on the scene before me.
I shook off the feeling, reminding myself that I had a job to do. "Uhm, sorry to interrupt, but I'm looking for my boss, Mr. Brooklyn," I said, trying to sound calm and composed.
The woman shot me death glares, making me wonder why. I hadn't come for either of them; I just needed to see Mr. Brooklyn. But as I looked at the young guy, I felt a spark of curiosity. Who was he, and what was his relationship with Mr. Brooklyn?
"That would be me," the young handsome man said, his voice confident and calm.
I felt a jolt of surprise, my eyes widening in disbelief. "Sorry?" I asked, unsure if I'd heard him correctly. The Mr. Brooklyn I knew, the one responsible for my father's death, was certainly not young and handsome.
The man repeated his question, and I stuttered out a response. "Y...e...s."
He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Well, that's me. I'm Aiden Brooklyn, Mr. Brooklyn's son and the owner of this company."
My mind reeled as I processed this new information. The name of the company, Aiden's Entertainment, now made sense. But the fact that I'd been targeting the wrong person made me feel a mix of emotions: disappointment, frustration, and a hint of sadness.
However, my determination quickly took over. I reminded myself that Aiden Brooklyn might still be involved in my father's death, and if that was the case, he would pay for his actions.
As I gazed into Aiden's eyes, a jolt of electricity ran through my body, leaving me breathless. The intensity of his stare, the piercing blue of his irises, and the gentle crinkle at the corners of his eyes all combined to create a spark of attraction that I couldn't ignore.
My heart skipped a beat as I felt myself being drawn to him, like a moth to a flame. It was as if time had stood still, and all that existed was the two of us, suspended in a sea of uncertainty.
But my mind was quick to intervene, reminding me of my mission and the reasons I'd come to Aiden's Entertainment in the first place. My determination and resolve reasserted themselves, and I felt a tug-of-war between my heart and mind.
My heart whispered sweet nothings, tempting me to consider the possibility of sparing Aiden's life, of getting to know him better, and of exploring the connection that seemed to simmer between us.
But my mind stood firm, refusing to back down. I had a job to do, and I couldn't let my emotions get in the way. The conflict raged on inside me, leaving me feeling torn and uncertain about what the future held.
"How about if he has a part in your father's death, we could just keep him," a voice echoed in my head, tempting me to consider the possibility of sparing Aiden's life if he was involved.
"Babe, could you excuse us for a while?" Aiden said, his voice low and husky as he addressed the woman beside him.
My heart sank, feeling like it had been punched in the gut. I couldn't believe that the man I'd been drooling over just moments before was already taken. The sting of disappointment was palpable, and I couldn't help but wonder why I'd allowed myself to get so caught up in my attraction to him.
As the woman left, she threw me a series of daggers, her eyes flashing with hostility. I was taken aback, wondering what I'd done to warrant such animosity. Was it really that obvious that I posed a threat to her relationship with Aiden?
I pushed aside the thought, focusing on the task at hand. Aiden's voice cut through my reverie, his calm and sexy tone sending shivers down my spine.
"Please have a seat," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled.
I sat down opposite him, trying to compose myself as we began discussing the details of my job. But I found myself getting lost in his beauty, my mind wandering as I struggled to focus on his words.
As I sat there, a plan began to form in my mind. I would not only uncover the truth about Mr. Brooklyn's involvement in my father's death, but I would also make Aiden fall for me. And to do that, his girlfriend would have to be out of the picture.
A sly smile spread across my face as I thought about the challenge ahead. I was ready to play the game, and I was determined to come out on top.
