Chapter 17
When the tears weren't even half way done, Ahmad was empty. He hadn't experienced that feeling before. The sadness was so raw. An ache started deep in his stomach. He threw the pills across the room as his eyes welled up with tears. He swiped at his eyes but the tears came any way.
He clenched his fist angrily as irritation surged up inside him. How could she do this to him? Why does that innocent baby have to suffer for his mistakes? The mistakes he doesn't recall making them. She hated him that much?
His pulse sped up and his breathing was shallow. He let out a loud growl of annoyance. Ahmad couldn't remember the last time he was that angry. His eyes narrowed and his teeth clenched together.
With a light head and fuzzy vision, he got to his feet and stormed out of the room. He went back to the hospital, thinking if he was going to be able to hold himself from hurting hidayah or not. He stood in front of the door, debating on what to even say Hidayah when he sees. He swallowed a painful lump and turned the door knob.
He met Nafisa praying dhuhr while hidayah was on her bed, still crying. He averted his gaze from her and kept the bag of clothes on the couch. He settled down, as he rested his elbows on his knee and forehead in his palms.
What was he going to do to hidayah? What does he do now? Why didn't she just ask him to divorce her instead of killing his first child? What did he do to deserve that? All day, everyday his only thought was how to make her happy, make her satisfied, grant all her wishes, have a happy, peaceful home. But hidayah chose to be brutal and unfair to him.
'Oh good, you're back. I'm going to go to the hospital cafeteria to get something. I'll be right back." Nafisa excused herself and stepped out. He stared at the exit door as he listened to hidayah's low whimpers. Why was she crying? Haven't she gotten what she wanted? Now it was time for her to ask for a divorce, wasn't it?
When she noticed that he wasn't going to say anything, she spoke up. She knew how much he cared about her but it was bizarre of him to just ignore her while he just sit there and listen to her whimper over their lost baby. 'Haven't you heard what the doctor said?" She asked him, her voice barely audible. 'Yes, I heard. You lost the baby. Is that why you're cry?" He retorted, nonchalantly.
A look of great bitterness swept across her face. How could he say that to her? He didn't want the baby at the first place or what? Or was he blaming her for it? How could he look her in the eye and utter those words to her when he knew all she needed was comforting?
She watched as he stood up and walked out of the room without a back glance.
He entered his car, resting his back as he closed his eyes and gazed into nothingness. For one thing, he didn't know exactly what to do to hidayah or how to handle the situation. He wanted to hurt her so bad for what she did to him. She had shown him no mercy and showed him his place in her life. And he vowed to also show her that she can't do whatever she wanted and get away with it that easily!
There was no way he could lay his hands on her but what she did was unforgivable or rather hard to forgive easily.
Ahmad was still sitting in his car when Adam pulled over and stepped out of his car. He watched as Adam walked into the hospital and he knew what that meant, he was here to see Hidayah. He gave him time before following him inside.
He stopped by the door to hear what they were discussing. He couldn't just make a scene without having a valid reason for it. He leaned closer to the door and all he could hear was hidayah crying as she vent about the abortion. 'You know that I've lost my baby because of you. If not because I have taken those stupid pills you gave me, I wouldn't have lost my baby! You're so wicked, Adam. I am done being fooled by you!" She was angry, Ahmad could tell by the way she was yelling.
Adam threw back his head and let out a loud, humourless laugh. It annoyed hidayah more. 'So what? What's there? Isn't that what we wanted? To abort the baby.... Now, the only thing left is for you to tell that your so called husband that you aborted the baby knowingly, then he'll get angry and divorce you."
She felt the muscles of her heart tighten with incredible force. 'Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND? I just lost my child! I've never regretted something like this. And it is all your FAULT!" She yelled with all the strength she had left. 'And I told you I'd marry you and I'll give you as many babies as you want. Just ask for the divorce and let's get this over with... I mean c'mon, you know how eager I am to..." He paused and winked at her. Adam spoke with no remorse or give damn about anything.
A boiling fury swelled inside of him. Ahmad clenched his fist angrily. He blew open the door and sent his fist, flying in Adam's face any part he knew Adam would feel intense pain. Ahmad hit him a left hand in the V under his ribs where the sternum ends. It paralysed his diaphragm and he gasped and collapsed. He bubble of blood formed at the corer if his mouth. Ahmad gave him the last punch which made him to blank out as his nose began to spew blood.
'Ahmad, you've killed him! Oh my God!" She whimpered, getting on her knees. She quickly got to her feet and called the nurses via the intercom.
Ahmad stood there as the nurses and doctors came in and wheeled Adam away on a stretcher and taken to the ER. He squinted his eyes at them as they rushed out with Adam. He faced Hidayah who was kneeling down before him, gushing out tears as her body shook.
Why was she crying when she was the one that caused all the commotion? An annoyed expression painted on his face as he glared at her. 'This is the kind of life you chose for yourself, huh? To be wayward? How could you do this to me, Hidayah? You aborted my baby and I will never forgive you for that you crazy heartless freak. You... you will surely regret your acts and I will make sure you suffer for it." His voice was so loud. She appeared taken aback by his comment. He became a complete different person. His eyes had warped into a miserable black.
Nafisa sauntered in and met them in that situation. He gave hidayah one last glare before storming out of the room. Nafisa abruptly rushed to hidayah, asking what happened. 'What happened, Ya Hidayah? What did you do this time?" Nafisa asked but hidayah couldn't utter a word. She was so hurt that she could feel the pain in her chest.
How did she really allow Adam to trick her into aborting her baby? Her first child? Hidayah had never regretted doing something like that. She has ruined every chance of having a normal life or being happy. Now Ahmad had told her right in her face that he wouldn't forgive her. Heck, she wasn't going to forgive herself either. She would never forgive herself for killing her first child. That innocent baby didn't deserve to be eliminated that way.
Oh Hidayah, what has she done?
He parked his car at the parking lot and entered the house, knowing he has access to it. He met her in the living room, recording one of her blogs, as usual. Layla raised her head to look at him. She briskly paused what she was doing and approached him.
'Ahmad? What's wrong? Are you okay? Your hand!" She looked at his bruised hand. 'Just sit, I'll get you some ice." She hurriedly walked away. He settled down as he examined the hand he used to bless Adam's body parts with. He heaved a sigh, thinking of any possible way to hurt hidayah as much as she hurt him. He wants her to feel the same amount of pain she's making him go through.
'Here, use this for your hand." She interrupted his reverie. Ahmad raised his head up and looked at Layla. He smiled and accepted the pack of ice. 'So..." She started as she settled down on the two sitter that was adjoining to the sofa he was sitting on. 'Care to tell me who you beat up that way?" She raised her brows, waiting for him to answer.
Ahmad chuckled softly and shook his head. 'Adam... that guy I've been telling you about." He swallowed hard. It was hard for him to speak about it, especially when he keeps getting flash backs of what he overheard them discuss about. Ahmad narrated the whole story to Layla, from the abortion pills she took to what happened at the hospital. 'I just can't believe that hidayah hated me that much to abort my baby." He could feel a searing pain in his heart which made him to sigh in frustration.
Layla was quiet for a while. She didn't know exactly how to start telling him what she had in mind. She knew how much he loves hidayah and he wouldn't want anything to happen to her. Why does he even love her that much after all she made him go through?
'I have an idea but... I don't know if it would work or it will be accepted by you." Ahmad scoffed as he smiled in frustration. He shook his head and swallowed hard. 'Just tell me what it is. I just want to hurt her as much as she has hurt me. I want her to feel the pain in her heart like she's making me feel right now." She heaved a sigh and nodded. 'Why not add another wife?"
Ahmad tensed up when she announced her suggestion. Layla also abruptly stood up. What nonsense was she uttering?
'You know I don't have intention of adding another wife. I love Hidayah so much and I don't have that mind to add another wife." Layla smiled as she shook her head. 'Calm your horses and listen to me. Okay? Just allow me to explain more."
