CHAPTER36
My mind wasn't just processing what I heard at all. I mean, What?
"Please tell me I'm dreaming" Melia gasps, fanning herself.
With a sober expression, Ai-ah Michael glances at me as I tighten my knuckles.
"Man, you really are full of secrets Adrian" Lexis laughs lightly.
"Wow. Just wow dude" Ryan adds.
Carter stares in horror "And I thought we were pals" Brooke hits him "Ow"
I just glare at him. Honestly, I don't know what to say, I mean what would you say if you find out that your friend isn't who he is meant to be. I mean...
"I don't understand you. I- I can't" I wave my hands in disbelief.
I can't even deal with this anymore. I walk out, not ready to say what's on my mind just yet.
"I know that you might not believe me or anything and you probably hate me but please, just give me till this night, I promise, you'll understand everything" he pleads just before I step out.
Now he expects me to believe him.
I scoff "I don't even know who the hell you are and you just want me to believe you. Of course not, I will never believe you again."
"Fair enough, but please just this once" he begs.
He looked so serious and for a minute, just one minute, I almost believed him. But I'll just give him a chance at least to know the truth.
"At this point, I don't like you neither do I want to interact with you but if and just if it will get me to know the truth then, fine." I said flatly as he let out a sigh of relief.
"Ah thank you, I promise you will find out everything," he said with a ghost smile before becoming serious again "And I'm sorry, to all of you for lying. It was quite stupid"
"You think" Lexis interrupted which was enough to make Ai- Michael glare slightly at him.
"But I hope to make it up to you" he continued.
"Fine. I just want to get out of here" I declare.
"Right back at you sis," Brooke said.
Melia halted us "Wait. You said something about a party?"
Ai-Michael cleared his throat "Yeah well every year, my father hosts an annual ball for his clients as well as partners. Nothing serious" he declared.
"Okay despite the whole drama" Melia paused dramatically "I still got to find a dress to this ball and you, ladies are going to find me one" she went on and I internally groaned.
Oh, not again. But if it's going to take my mind of this whole thing, it's worth a shot.
****
Correction, it was not worth the shot.
We were currently thirty minutes late to the ball or whatever because of Brooke and Melia's shopping problem.
I decided not to shop for anything because the ball was for answers not to party and besides, I don't see myself enjoying it so I settled for a black knee-length dress I packed, flats and absolutely no makeup.
Just as I like it.
"I can't wait till everyone sees this dress. They are going to be mind-blown" Melia giggles as we reach the door to the ballroom.
"Melia, you seriously this excited for all men and women to see your dress?" I asked dryly.
"Oh," she mumbled "At least, I'll look stunning" she smiles foolishly might I add.
Brooke and I just stared at each other probably thinking the same thing; What the hell are we going to do with this girl?
"Whatever awaits us better be good" Brooke sighed before opening the door.
The room was absolutely magnificent, the walls were painted in gold, the chandeliers we're well lit, the soft music playing in the background helped lighten the mood as the people chatted lightly and in hushed tones.
"Wow, there really are a bunch of old people in this damn place" I declare.
My eyes unconsciously scan the room for a certain someone in hopes of talking to him when my eyes landed on my parents at the same time theirs met mine.
"What are you guys doing here, I mean I haven't seen you guys in a long while, not that you card but" I shut myself up. I wasn't in the mood to start up a fight with them. Yet.
Mum turns to Dad then to me sadly "No honey it's really not like that" she began to say but I stopped her because I had to unless it will turn it one sob story.
She readjusted herself "Your dad has been in partnership with Mr. Simmons for a while now and he invited us to I said why the hell not and we're here."
Before I had the chance to say one word, the look on Dad's face distracted me. It was like he had seen a dead person.
"G-Gabe? Michelle? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be dead? I-I-I th-oughtt" Dad stammered, shock evading his expression, as well as moms.
I turned to the direction of the people dad was talking to and I saw a man and a woman, probably his wife standing, sadness in their eyes.
I took in their features. The man whom I'm guessing was around dad's age, or older was kind of slender, tall, dark hair, no beard or anything and looked like an absolutely peaceful man. His wife was an absolute beauty. Brown hair, not so tall, perfect size, hazel eyes and a nice smile.
Hm, reminds me of someone though.
I wanted to ask who they were when the woman walked over and gave me a bone-crushing hug
What is with people and hugging?
"Thank you" she whispered.
A frown formed on my face "Um, for?"
"Um Mr. Stuart, what a surprise" Lexis lent out a hand to shake dad which totally took me with surprise.
The boys finally arrived as well as Ai-Mich- Ugh Dammit. This name thing isn't working for me.
After all the pleasantries, I turned to the woman who smiled proudly and heartbroken at Lexis.
With tears running down her eyes, she and her husband walked up to a confused Lexis who knew nothing about what was going on.
Being too distraught to speak, her husband finally spoke up as she continued to caress his cheeks "We've been waiting for this day all our lives to see you. Son."
Everyone. I mean everyone listening to him gasped well except Michael.
Oh geez, this night is going to be rough.
