CHAPTER37
I couldn't even begin to say what I felt when I heard that word 'son' because man was I shocked.
I searched Lexis's eyes for any hint of emotion. But none.
"What did you just call me?" He asked coldly.
Gabe, I'm assuming gulped hard, not knowing what to say.
So Michelle spoke instead "I know that this is long overdue and I-we owe you a long-overdue explanation for leaving so early but we are your parents Alexander" she sobbed silently in her husband's arms.
Lexis looked so distraught and in disbelief "What is this? You just walk up to me and suddenly I'm your son? Well, save that bullshit for the other son you left behind all his life. Not me" he spat and walked away, causing her to flinch in her husband's arms.
I was about to follow him in case he needed someone when Michael or whatever he is placed his hands in front of me in an attempt to stop me "This is not the time to meet him. He's angry and he needs a lot of time to think about this new information. I promise he'll come around"
"You say that like you've kept any of your promises" I huff but still listen to him and stand back.
Dad still utterly and completely stunned manages to talk "He-he's your son? How did this- I don't understand what is happening here"
Honestly, I feel the same way.
Gabe smiled lightly "Well, I can imagine how many questions are running through your minds right now concerning all of this" he paused and continued "To simply put, Eriel is a sneaky bastard and I can't wait to lay my hands on him"
"Okay, no offence but some of us will like to get to the story really quick" Mom snapped while Gabe just let out a small laugh.
"Long before Elizabeth's death, Jack, Eriel and I were best pals. Friends from the start, we thought our bond was unbreakable but little did we know we were about to be hit by a storm.
You see, Jack and Eriel were all about business while I stayed in the profession of my dreams, Science.
I worked on a lot of medicines and drugs until one day, I finally made a drug capable of erasing memories permanently and temporary.
I showed it to them, they were very happy for me but Eriel was a little bit over-excited for me. He said we could make millions out of those drugs and that was not what I wanted for it.
I knew that when it hits the business world, it would fall into the wrong hands so I refused but knowing Eriel, he always gets what he wants. He tried persuading Jack to talk to me unto no avail.
Eventually, he stopped bothering me because he just had his big break so that was the least of his problems or so I thought.
He started becoming a big shot, never having time for anyone but we didn't bother him. At that time, he and Elizabeth were having so many problems that he always took his anger out on Jack for some reason.
When Michelle gave birth to Alexander, Jack was away during that time so he didn't know she had given birth or even pregnant so to say. The threats to have those drugs were no longer mere ones. Eriel became really eager for those drugs just for money. That was when he finally gave us an ultimatum; He doesn't take the drug and kills us all or spare Alex's life, take the drugs and leave for good. So you can guess which one we took-"
"You couldn't report or something?" I ask
"No kiddo, Eriel was already powerful, he had men everywhere so it was too big of a risk for us," he said and Michelle continued "The night we were supposed to hand off our son and the drugs, Eriel came along with Jack, who knew nothing about the handoff. He lied to you Jack, his plan was to take the drug and kill us and that is what he tried to do.
Eriel's men collected Alex and the drugs in a haste and that was when I knew immediately that it was a setup. Eriel set a bomb in my car but unfortunately for him, I heard the ticking so I took Michelle and we hid. We tried signaling for you but you were so scared that you ran away and that was when you had that accident"
Dad looking pretty shaken up by the story said "I had a great concussion in that accident that was why Eriel fed me with lies that I killed you and ran away. He made me believe that I killed you both but he lied that he was going to protect me from the law"
That's when I remembered, "So that was the reason why you made me agree to the engagement."
"But that's not all," Gabe said.
"What else"
"The thing is, I gave him the temporary drug, not the permanent"
"So what exactly did he use it for?" I ask.
"Well, you see-"
"Um excuse me, would you like a drink?" A voice asked behind me. Before I could decline, I froze.
That voice was quite familiar.
I looked up to see the shocked faces of my friends and mostly my parents.
Hm, weird.
I turned to the direction of the voice and as I looked up, my entire body became numb and my heart lept.
For years, I dreamt and dreamt for this day, the day when I see my other half. The day my dreams finally come true. And alas, that day was here.
"Lee?"
