CHAPTER 54
The fever and headache had vanished and I felt much better now. I gave myself a small smile as I rolled out of bed and went to join my family in the living room.
'Ahh, there she is," Zenia said upon seeing me. I sat down on the chair between her and mom.
Mom was looking at her favourite show, stuffing her face with a bowl of popcorn. I took a handful and sent it down my throat.
'How are you feeling?" mom asked.
'I'm much better," I answered.
'You got my message Jas?" Zenia butted in as always.
'Yes," I answered short.
'He and his sister does look alike. They have the same eyes and same complexion. He's just taller than her," Zenia was going on.
' Zenia honestly, I'm not interested in talking about him anymore. I tried to apologize via text messages and face to face but he doesn't want anything to do with me. Holding on to him would do nothing good for me. I'm letting him go as well. I'm not going to beg him or get down on my hands and knees for him. I already apologized and he doesn't want to accept it, so that's it. He's done and hopefully by the end of the week, I'll be done as well," I said slowly but surely and I meant every word.
'That's my baby," mom said as she leaned in and kissed me on the cheek.
Zenia gave a fake smile. We sat there and looked at the show, taking handfuls of our mother's popcorn.
'I'm going to make more popcorn," she said, getting off the chair and pausing the show.
Zenia and I groaned.
Then, I had a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach and something felt like an eruption. I got off the couch and made a beeline to the washroom. As I got to the toilet bowl, I vomited everything I consumed today. My chest ached and my throat burned.
'Jassy, are you okay?" Zenia asked as she came over and held my hair from getting caught in my ‘up-chuck.'
'You're vomiting," she said like if I wasn't aware of that.
'Yeah. I've been sick," I said, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand and sitting flat on my butt. I felt weak again.
Zenia handed me a glass of water. I rinsed out my mouth before she help me to my feet and carried me against her to my bedroom.
I threw myself down on the bed and crawled in underneath my covers. The headache came back again, but it was mild this time.
'Jassy, can I ask you something?" she asked.
'What Zenia?" I snapped at her.
'Is there a possibility that you could be pregnant?"
Jasmine's POV
Two days later
Zenia and I were in the supermarket, throwing foodstuff into a trolley while moving from aisle to aisle.
'Put this in there," she said, throwing two pregnancy tests into the cart.
'Zenia, I already told you that I'm not pregnant," I pleaded.
'Let's say that you are pregnant, Who's the father?"
I gave her a death glare and if looks could have killed, I would have killed my own sister.
'Hey, don't get mad at me," she said, throwing up her hands in surrender.
'I get why you asked that question, but Evan would definitely be the father since I never engaged in any sexual activities with Bradley."
'So you didn't use any protection?" she asked in a whisper tone.
'Yeah we did. But there was this one time we didn't and he ejaculated inside me."
'My gosh."
'Can we just drop this topic? I'm really trying to move on with my life."
'Sure."
The topic shifted to fashion and clothing lines. It was Zenia's dream to become a fashion designer and owned her boutique.
After getting home and packing the groceries away, Zenia placed the pregnancy tests in my hands.
'It wouldn't hurt to make sure. Do one now and the other one in the morning."
I went to the washroom, read the directions and peed.
I waited patiently on that one red line, the Negative line.
After five minutes, it showed exactly that. Negative. I was not pregnant. Zenia came bursting through the bathroom door.
'What did it showed?"
'Negative," I answered, showing her the stick.
'Oh well, how you feel about that?" she asked.
'I feel like I could finally move on with my life."
And that I did.
Two weeks Later, I landed a job as a waitress and bartender at the restaurant where my mother worked.
Finally, I felt normal. No one judged me and asked any questions about Evan and I. I found myself laughing and talking and making friends with the other employees there, everyone except for a guy named Michael.
Michael was grumpy and impolite. But in almost every workplace, there's always this one person who makes you uncomfortable to be around them.
'Jasmine, can you assist me on table nine? It's a walk in couple!" Sharmolly, one of the other waitresses, called out to me.
It was Friday and the restaurant was crowding with people. All the employees were on their feet and busy as bees.
'I'll attend to them as soon as I'm finish with these tequila shots!" I called back in a tone she'll definitely hear.
