Chapter 12 - LIGHTS
Clyde Nielsen
I arrived at the headquarters ten minutes after Kayden called me. They rarely call me if there's an emergency, so this must be something that I have to help. Kayden texted me to go to the lab right away.
I ran to the B3 floor where the lab was. Mila was already waiting for me with a lab coat and safety glasses. I opened the door to the lab, and smoke came out of it.
"What happened?" I asked, and I saw Kayden and Ares there. They're holding on to the black pipe, and some researchers tried to put it back in place.
"It burst about 15 minutes ago, but we don't have enough people to hold it in place," Kayden explained. When I saw the whole situation, I decided to hold on to the pipe with one hand and help to get rid of the smoke so they could see better because it kept coming out.
"Where the fuck is Mason?" I asked as we were trying to figure out how this would turn out. This is Mason and Kayden's project. I had nothing to do with this new gadget they're trying to make, but I was involved in deciding the material.
"He's in Los Angeles," Ares replied in the most boring tone. "Should we try cut the pipe like this much?" He pointed out the amount that he wanted to cut.
"But it would be hard for the tube to go in, Mr.Young." The jet-black-haired researcher said. "Cutting won't help. We tried it before." Kayden added.
After trying to fix it, we ended up giving up and had to wait for Mason because he was the one who built it. Kayden only made the design and supported the idea. I took my lab jacket off as soon as I left the lab. Mila was already waiting for me, and I gave it all to her.
"Tell Blanc to see me tomorrow morning, and you will fill his job until 12." I took my safety glasses off and gave it to her. "Yes, sir. Anything else?"
"No, that's it." I walked towards the elevator, and Ares had just gotten out of the toilet, washing his dirty hands after holding on to the leaked pipe.
"Why are you so busy these days?" Ares asked as he waited for the elevator. "Why? You miss me?" I turned to him, raising my eyebrows, and he rolled his eyes.
"Mason told me you've been ditching meetings because you have a girlfriend." The elevator arrived, and I walked it, followed by Ares. "I laughed at him for it, and I bet him a thousand dollars that you're bullshitting him."
"Better give him that money because I have a girlfriend, and you both interrupted my time with her for some pipe," I said in a not-so-impressed tone. Ares laughed and walked out of the elevator. "I must say, your jokes these days are better than before, Clyde."
"Send him the money, and I'll introduce you to Luna next week at the charity event." His face fell when he realized that I wasn't joking. I smirked before closing the elevator and went up to the highest floor.
I walked towards my office to check some things before discussing things with Blanc tomorrow. Opening the first drawer of my desk and turned on the phone that's been sitting there for more than a week.
I opened it and smirked to see my older brother, Christopher, texting me for help. I love how he kept begging me for more than a month now. Instead of replying to him, I turned off the phone again and grabbed my tab to check some contracts that needed to be signed next week.
"Going straight home after this?" I looked up to see Kayden leaning on the door frame. His attention was all on his phone.
"Yeah, Luna is sleeping. I don't want to leave her for too long."
"You're babysitting in your spare time, huh?" He turned to me with a big smirk plastered on his face. "You can say that, and you should try it sometime." I smiled and walked towards the door.
"A meeting next week, Nielsen." I walked past him when he said that.
"You know it." With that, I left him there. I went back to my car that, was still waiting in the lobby and went back to my penthouse. Luna was still sleeping soundly, and I decided to take a shower.
After drying myself and putting my hoodie on, I lay beside her to sleep, but the lights were bothering me. I pulled Luna close, and she snuggled to me right away. I closed my eyes with a pillow and fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of Luna screaming. I got up immediately and found her fighting with her eggs in the kitchen. She's shielding herself with another pan, causing me to sigh a long relief.
"What are you doing?" I asked, and she screamed again, seeing me behind her.
"Sorry, I got hungry, and you only had eggs in the fridge." She turned her attention to the pan again, and I took the pan she was holding. I finished the job for her, and she clapped her hands like a seal when I put the eggs on the plate.
"Thank you." She said as she looked around for a fork. I opened the drawer beside the fridge for her. "Do you want some?"
"I don't eat breakfast." I checked the time, and it's 8. "Did you have a good sleep last night?" She asked, and she must have seen me putting a pillow on my eyes.
"Yeah, I did."
"But the light was on, and you should have turned it off after I fell asleep." She looked at me worried, and I shook my head.
"I don't want you to freak out if you wake up in the middle of the night. It's nothing that I can't handle." I said as I walked to the coffee maker.
"Thank you, Clyde." A smile left my lips.
