61. The people who destroyed her family.
Megan's eyes blazed with anger as she arrived at their mansion. She immediately locked herself in her room and began throwing around any breakable objects she could get her hands on.
'I'm sorry, Mrs. Lorenzo, but no matter what we do now, we won't know if you're pregnant. You still have to wait at least a week or two to—"
'What? Why does it take that long? I already told you, I'm delayed. Isn't that enough to say I'm pregnant?" she interrupted Doctor Nami.
After Briella was given a prescription for the vitamins she needed to buy, she left without even saying goodbye. Megan couldn't believe that the woman was pregnant too; the news had stated that she had separated from her first fiancé because of his cheating, and just a few weeks later, news spread worldwide about her marriage to the CEO of Crown Star Entertainment. And now she would hear that she was pregnant?
What the fck! I won't allow her to steal my inheritance! I am Daddy's eldest child, and Lé Fragrance should rightfully belong to me!
'Meg, open the door. What's happening to you?" she heard her Mommy say outside her door.
She immediately opened it and hugged her mother, crying.
'It's Briella, Mommy. She plans to take everything from me!" she hysterically told her.
'What? Did you see her? Where? I thought you were going to the hospital for a check-up?" her mother asked, confused.
She sighed heavily and let her into their room, then closed the door before recounting their encounter with Briella at the hospital.
'I saw her in the Hospital, Mommy. She laughed at me and embarrassed me in front of her friends! She insulted me and called me ambitious!" she cried out in complaint.
'She said that to you? That woman has some nerve!" her Mommy exclaimed angrily.
She nodded. 'Yes, Mom! She's pregnant and threatened me about my child's inheritance! I said I am pregnant and my child will inherit the company, she got angry with me and humiliated me!" she cried again and covered her face.
'That bitch! Don't worry, I'll tell your Daddy about this so that he'll completely disown her from this family! She's never allowed to set foot in my house again!" her mother said angrily.
She secretly smiled and celebrated inside her mind. You have no idea what trouble you've started, Briella. Be prepared, because just like your mother, this family will completely erase you!
'Mommy, you can't forbid her from coming here because she's still Daddy's child, and besides, she's legally Daddy's child," she said sadly, rubbing her flat stomach. 'What chance does my baby have against her child if you and Daddy are still not married?"
She saw her Mommy freeze, unable to respond to what she said and seeming unsure of what to say to her.
'How many years have you been together with Daddy but you still can't convince him to marry you? Even just for your future grandchild, you could find a way for Daddy to marry you," she said to her, hinting at the sadness in her voice. 'At least do something so that your future grandchild has a fighting chance against her child."
Her mother raised her eyebrows as she sighed and avoided eye contact.
'I've tried talking to your Daddy about it several times, and his only response to me is that he can't marry until he's separated from his first wife," she said.
'What? That's ridiculous! His flirty wife has been out of her mind for a long time; he can talk to his lawyer to find a way to annul their marriage! Do something, Mommy!" she shouted at her.
It took a long time before her Mommy spoke as if carefully considering what she said. If you don't act, Mommy, I will! I won't allow Briella to outdo me! I won't allow all the hard work me and my husband have done for the company to go to waste! My child and I are the rightful heirs of Lé Fragrance!
By evening, her husband and Daddy came home together, and the four of them sat facing each other at the dining table. They exchanged glances with her Mommy, which didn't escape her Daddy's notice.
'What is it? Did something bad happen?" he asked, shifting his gaze between her and her Mommy.
She set down her utensils and bowed her head.
'It's Briella," her mother replied.
She heard her father inhale sharply, seemingly surprised by her Mommy's words.
'What happened?" he asked.
'That bitch insulted your daughter!" her Mommy replied, gritting her teeth.
'Megan," her Daddy called to her, ignoring her Mommy's words. 'Tell me what happened."
She lifted her head and looked tearfully at her Daddy. 'I-I went to my doctor earlier for a check-up. She was also there and... she laughed at me, saying it was too early to assume I was pregnant. She also called me ambitious when I told her about what my baby will inherit," she tearfully complained to him.
'What did the doctor say about your pregnancy?" he asked in a serious tone.
She secretly gulped, knowing that if she revealed what the doctor had told her, he would surely favor Briella.
'T-The baby is fine," she replied. 'My next check-up will be next month."
'So does it mean I'm going to be a dad?" Gerard, her husband, asked with a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
She smiled and nodded. 'Yes, honey. You're going to be a father!" It couldn't be bad to say that because she knew she was pregnant! All she had to do was wait a week for her next check-up.
'Why do you seem unhappy about us becoming a grandparent?" her Mommy asked her Daddy. She glanced at the older man and couldn't help but furrow her brow because it was obvious he wasn't pleased with her news.
'I'm just tired, that's all," he replied. 'Take care always and look after your future child. You'll go through a lot in the coming months," he said.
She smiled and nodded. 'I will, but I have a request."
'What is it?" he asked.
'I want Briella to apologize to me. I was embarrassed, Dad, and I won't be able to sleep well at night until I hear—"
'That's enough," he interrupted her. She paused and couldn't believe it while she was looking at him. 'I can't do that, I still owe her an apology," he said, sighing.
'What?" her eyes narrowed and her eyebrows furrowed. 'Dad, she insulted me! Why are you still thinking about her?"
'Your daughter is pregnant, Damian. Stress is bad for pregnant women!" her father retorted.
She quickly stood up from the dining table and left without a word to show her anger towards her father. She seethed inside because no matter what she did to sabotage Briella, it didn't work on the old man.
****
'What the hell did you do?" Meryll asked him sharply when they were the only ones left at the dining table.
He let out a heavy sigh and looked at the woman. 'What do you want me to do? Just follow what she wants?"
'Well of course, yes!" she said loudly. 'She's your daughter, Damian, and you should listen to her because your daughter is pregnant!" she added firmly.
'Briella's also my daughter, in case you've forgotten," he retorted, glaring at her. 'Or do you want me to remind you of that?"
The woman fell silent, and he saw the color drain from her face. he had made a mistake once, and he didn't want to go through that again. To this day, he still can't forgive himself for what he did to her wife.
He turned heartless when he found out she was with another guy. He didn't even let her explain, and he even involved the child in her womb back then, which until now remained a big question mark for him if it was his or a result of her infidelity.
'How many years have we been together, Damian?" she asked him moments later. 'Our children are all grown up, and I never asked for anything else except for you to marry me. You promised me that—"
'I never promised you anything, Meryll," he interrupted her. 'I made a mistake when I got involved with you and got you pregnant. Don't you know how much I had to swallow my pride to bring you and Megan here? I had to show Lebyth that I was the one in charge of this household and let you stay. Wasn't that enough for you, and you still want me to marry you?"
There was a long silence between them, with only Meryll's heavy breathing audible. He also lost his appetite, so he stood up first and politely excused himself.
Instead of going to their room with Meryll, he locked himself in his study room. Whenever his mind was troubled and his conscience struck him, he always came here because almost all his memories with his family were there. He walked towards his desk and let out a deep sigh when he saw the photo of the three of them on top of his table.
That was taken fourteen years ago before he found out that he had a child outside, and out of fear that it would spread in the news, he talked to Lebyth to accept the mother and child into their household. He would never forget their first major fight with Lebyth and since then, her attitude changed.
She was always out of the house, and she would come home late at night. Sometimes, she would bring Briella along when she went out, and she also started to distance herself from him. He wanted to ask for forgiveness from his wife, but his ego got in the way. He thought she would return to her old self once she accepted the truth, and that would never change.
Briella also distanced herself from him, and he blamed Lebyth for that until he found out some of her mischief that pushed him to hurt her in front of their child.
He received some photos of her with another man in a restaurant, they looked happy, and Lebyth had a happy expression when she was with the man. His vision darkened immediately, and he mercilessly beat the woman until she bled and rushed her to the hospital. She had a miscarriage, and he found out she was three months pregnant, then he realized she might be telling the truth, but he knew it was too late to regret it.
Lebyth had Postpartum Depression and couldn't cope with the loss of her second child. She didn't recognize him anymore and was always in a daze and couldn't be talked to. Since then, he decided to admit her to a Mental Hospital for treatment, and at the age of fourteen, Briella left his custody, he vowed she would never come back to him as long as she was with the people who destroyed their family.
