63. I’m going to die, Briella!
The next day, when Briella woke up, she felt unwell. She was dizzy and couldn't understand why, so she stayed in her room all day, even forgetting to eat lunch because of how she felt.
'Brie, are you okay?" she heard Chelsey ask from outside her room. 'I'm coming in, okay?"
Before she could respond, Chelsey entered and immediately panicked when she saw her.
'Oh my God, what's happening to you? Why do you look so pale?" she asked frantically and rushed over to her. 'Oh my gosh, you have a high fever!"
Briella couldn't comprehend what she was saying because she was fighting off sleep.
'I'm too lazy to get up, Chelsey. What time is it?" she asked.
'Are you hungry? Do I need to call the doctor?" Chelsey asked her, also concerned.
She shook her head and pulled the covers tighter, unable to understand Chelsey's words. Soon after, she felt her stomach churning, and despite the difficulty, she quickly got up and rushed to the bathroom. She vomited into the sink, with Chelsey following behind her with water.
'Briella, seriously! Don't scare me like that! What's going on with you?" Chelsey asked worriedly and anxiously.
After rinsing her mouth and gargling, she took the water Chelsey brought. She looked at herself in the mirror and pushed her hair back, feeling slightly better.
'I think it's morning sickness," she replied weakly.
'You have a fever, are you sure you're okay?" Chelsey asked again, feeling her forehead. 'Whoa, weird. You weren't fine just a moment ago."
She took a deep breath and left the bathroom, suddenly feeling hungry.
'Are you okay now? Shouldn't I call the doctor?" Chelsey repeated her question.
She shook her head. 'No need, I think my body's just adjusting to the pregnancy. I'll just change and maybe grab some pizza," she told her.
'Pizza? You haven't even eaten lunch yet!" Chelsey exclaimed, sitting on her bed.
She went straight to their walk-in closet with Braun and picked out some simple clothes to wear. Suddenly, she craved pizza and ice cream.
'Where are you going?" Chelsey asked when she saw her grabbing her shoulder bag.
'There's a nearby ice cream shop in the subdivision, I want to get some ice cream," she answered. 'Do you want to come?"
'Wait, you're going for an ice cream instead of eating proper food?" Chelsey asked, astonished.
She raised an eyebrow. 'Is there something wrong with what I want to eat?"
'Hey, Briella, you're acting so unlike yourself today! Since when did you develop a liking for those kinds of food?" Chelsey remarked with a puzzled look.
She shook her head. 'Just leave me alone, Chelsey. I'm going to eat ice cream, or do you want me to tell Braun about you?"
She saw Chelsey's jaw drop at what she said, and she realized the weight of her words. She sighed heavily and realized that her cravings were going to be a big problem.
'I-it's the baby," she confessed.
'Oh my God! Is it making demands for ice cream already?" Chelsey exclaimed.
She bit her lip and sighed.
'I don't know, but I'm getting ice cream. Are you coming?" she asked her.
'Of course! It's ice cream, what flavor do you want?" she asked as they both left the room.
'Ube for me, what about you?" she asked.
'Cookies and cream, just make sure to keep me out of trouble if Big Boss finds out," she said.
She just laughed and they continued downstairs. They didn't use a car and decided to walk instead. They were safe inside the subdivision as security was tight, so no one could easily get in.
Within thirty minutes, they arrived at the ice cream shop Briella mentioned. She quickly ordered hers, with Chelsey following suit. They found a spot at the far end of the shop to avoid too much attention. Even though the place was considered safe, it was still possible for someone to recognize her and approach her.
One such person was the cashier, who even left the counter to take a picture with her.
'Oh, by the way, what are your plans now that you've reunited with Megan?" Chelsey asked once they were seated.
'Plans? Why would I make plans? For what?" Briella asked, digging into her ube ice cream.
'You must have heard what she said, right? The entire Lé Fragrance is going to your dad's first grandchild. Aren't you interested in that?" Chelsey inquired.
Briella paused her eating and lowered her ice cream, sighing.
'I'm not interested. I've lived independently without relying on them," she replied.
'But Brie, you're your dad's real daughter—his legitimate and only child. Shouldn't you fight for your rights?" Chelsey insisted.
She raised an eyebrow and resumed eating her ice cream. 'If you were in my shoes, Chelsey, would you fight for something that would hinder your happiness?"
Chelsey frowned immediately. 'Why is the conversation turning to me?"
'Why not?" she said, still not stopping her ice cream consumption.
'Slow down! It's like you're afraid of running out of ice cream!" Chelsey teased her.
'Shut up, Chelsey. Finish your ice cream before I take it away," she told her.
Chelsey seemed scared by her words and quickly licked her ice cream.
'Looks like your baby might turn into an Ice Cream Monster soon!" she joked.
'Whatever," Briella said.
They continued eating until she finished her large cup of Ube ice cream. She let out a sigh of contentment, feeling full.
'Are you okay now?" Chelsey asked with a grin.
She nodded with a smile. 'Yup."
'Briella?" someone called out to her. She turned to see who it was. At first, she didn't recognize the voice, but when she finally saw the person, everything became clear.
It was her youngest sibling, Jeydon, her half-brother.
'Briella?" Chelsey repeated, looking confused and shifting her gaze between the siblings.
'Uh, can I sit here?" Jeydon asked awkwardly, pointing to the empty seat beside her.
She nodded.
'Whoa! I never expected that you'd be here!" Jeydon exclaimed, turning to Chelsey. 'Hi! My name is Jeydon, Briella's half-brother. You're Chelsey, right?"
'Ha? Um, hi! Are you the kid I saw last time?" Chelsey asked incredulously.
Scratching his head, Jeydon nodded. 'Yeah, puberty hit me hard, so I suddenly changed."
'Wow, I didn't recognize you at all! You've changed a lot, from skinny to an oh-so-good-looking man!" Chelsey complimented.
Jeydon chuckled shyly, clearly embarrassed by Chelsey's praise.
'What are you doing here, Jeydon?" Briella casually asked her sibling.
'My friends live here, so they asked me to come along. We happened to pass by this shop, so we went in," he explained, pointing to the two guys his age still in line at the counter.
Jeydon was her dad's youngest child with Meryll. Despite not spending much time together, they got along well. He was very affectionate and kind. He often sent her pictures while he was still studying, and they occasionally talked via video call. She felt closer to him than to his actual sister, Megan, perhaps because they shared similar personalities.
'Is it okay if I introduce you to them as my sister?" Jeydon asked hesitantly, as if still unsure about asking her.
She nodded. 'Of course," she said.
Jeydon's face lit up, and he was about to call his friends when Briella suddenly grabbed him and winced in pain.
'Sis, are you okay?" he asked, holding her shoulders.
'This is what I've been saying," Chelsey exclaimed, starting to panic again.
She bit her lip and took a deep breath. 'I think I…" She didn't finish her sentence as another wave of pain hit her. Her stomach seemed to twist, and she broke out in a cold sweat.
'What's happening to her?" Jeydon asked, alarmed, holding onto her shoulders.
'Hospital! We need to take her to the hospital!" Chelsey said, quickly standing up and helping her.
'Hospital? Why? Is she sick?" Jeydon asked, confused.
She shook her head. 'I'm not sick, but—shit!" She took a deep breath and gripped Jeydon's hand tightly.
'I'll talk to you later, do you have a car? Let's take your sister to the hospital, and I might be in trouble with your Big Brother-in-law!" Chelsey scolded Jeydon.
'I can borrow my friend's car," Jeydon said and quickly excused himself.
'Who should I call? Travis or Janice?" she asked.
'Relax, it's not a big deal," she said, but she winced again as the pain recurred.
'Relax, my ass! Because you're not the one shaking every time Big Boss gives you a stern look!" Chelsey complained.
Jeydon returned with his friend's car keys, and they discreetly left the shop. She tried not to show any signs of discomfort to avoid drawing attention to herself among the customers there.
As they got into the car, she couldn't help but groan from the intense pain. Chelsey became even more frantic, shaking her sister's shoulder.
'Gosh! Here we go again with the ube, damn it!" Chelsey cursed in frustration.
Instead of getting angry, she laughed at Chelsey's swearing. Whenever Chelsey resorted to cursing, it meant she was extremely worried and annoyed.
'I'm fine, I told you to calm down," she said.
'Shut up! Can you still laugh in this situation? Take your situation seriously. What if you're not allowed to eat ice cream and it affects your baby?" Chelsey scolded her.
'Wait, you're pregnant, Briella?" Jeydon asked in surprise, glancing at her through the rearview mirror.
'Yes, she is pregnant, so focus on driving and don't gossip. I'll call Janice to contact Travis," Chelsey said, taking out her cell phone and dialing a number.
'Hello, Janice, emergency. We're heading to the hospital now, Briella is experiencing some discomfort. Can you call…" She didn't finish what she was saying as her face immediately turned pale.
'B-Big Boss?" she stammered.
She froze and looked at her friend, who seemed as if she had been bitten by a snake while holding her phone. She saw her friend gulp nervously, then burst into nervous laughter.
'I-It's a prank! I was just pranking you, Big Boss. I'm vlogging today and making random calls—sorry! Briella is perfectly fine and feeling good at anything. Take care, bye!" She hung up the phone and screamed.
She covered her ears and smacked Chelsey's shoulder.
'Fuck!" she exclaimed. 'I'm going to die, Briella! I'm so stupid, I accidentally dialed Big Boss's number! What should I do, should I hide? Should I write a promissory note? Damn it!"
If she wasn't in so much pain, she would have laughed loudly at Chelsey's frantic behavior. Nevertheless, she also wanted to pinch her because, at this rate, Braun would surely be furious and on his way home.
