Chapter 27 : The Vacation
| The Vacation |
It is a fine day. The sun cast a luminous glow. The fresh breeze from the green fields welcomed us as we enter the village. The whole landscape was bathed in the warm glow of the rising sun. palm trees swayed gently in the breeze in the warm tropical sunshine. The village has this breathtaking scenery that can captivate everyone.
I look at Linus, my eyes lasted a minute on his side. He seems relaxed while driving with just one hand gripping the steering wheel. He always wears his elite aura—those people who were born with a silver spoon.
Could Linus like to live on a farm? Does he know how to milk cows? Feed chickens and gather their eggs? Does he like the smell of a muddy land?
Of all people that surround me every day, why did I fall in love with him?
I looked outside the window and heaved a deep sigh.
Things changed the moment I fell for him. typically, being in love means I want to spend much time with him as possible, but the thing is, we need to hide it from everyone. Though. Even if we're busy, we probably find ourselves arranging our schedule to see each other, have a simple yet romantic date.
I can feel the urge to do something that will completely significantly change my life, but I need time to think it through.
Maybe this isn't the time for that. I love him, and I am grateful to be his girlfriend, but we don't have the same world. We don't have the same life. Things easily change. And I don't know when this relationship would last. I have so many what-ifs inside my mind. But I'm holding to his promise.
We need to work together for this relationship if we want it to last. If I will choose, I want him to be mine forever. It's not that I can love another man o I don't know, I guess, fate will still be the one to decide yet we are the ones to fulfill and decide how we handle it.
I told him the direction of our house. Reina at the back was asleep. So, we have the time to talk.
"Let me talk first to my parents about us, when we get there," I said.
"Sure love," he replied. And that endearment can't stop me from blushing and having these butterflies on my stomach that keep on flying.
I smiled and said, "thank you."
"Just pull over there, beside that tree," I said and pointed to the Mahogany tree beside our house. We don't have a garage. Our truck was parked just in front of our house.
I'm the one who gets off first, then I open the backdoor to wake up Reina.
"Hey, we're here," I said as I slightly tapped her cheek. She then opens her eyes and fixes herself before getting of the car.
"Rebecca!"
I looked at my back and saw my mom and dad approaching us. I rolled towards their direction and gave a hug.
"Oh my! You didn't call me that you're going home, and who is this handsome man beside you?" my mother asked as she looks at Linus who is standing beside me.
"Hello, auntie… uncle," Reina utters as she hugs my parents.
"This is Linus," she said as she stands beside Linus.
Am I not supposed to be the one to say it?
"Good day, sir, ma'am. I'm Linus, nice to meet you," he said and extend his arms to do the handshake.
My mother smiled.
"Welcome to our humble home, Linus," my father said.
"Let's get inside and I will prepare a snack," said mom. "Oh, Reina, are you not going home to visit your mother?" she added.
"Later, auntie. I'm going to have and taste your yummy delicacies, first. I bet you baked cookies," she said and smiled.
"You're right. But it's not that enough for all of us because you didn't inform us that you were going home today. I need to bake more—"
"Mom, we're fine with bread and jam," I cut in.
"Silly, we have a visitor—wait, you seem to lose weight, huh?"
"Yes, auntie. She undergoes dieting when she falls in—"
I pinched her shoulder and widened my eyes to warn her.
"I mean when she falls in that café and worked as a barista slash cashier."
"You have a part-time job?" mom asked seems surprised.
Ah-oh, I forgot. I didn't tell them about it yet.
"Yes, mom. For extra money and we talked about it right?"
"Hmm… it seems like you have to tell me many things, including that," she said as she pointed Linus beside dad as they both walked ahead of us.
"Yeah, later, mom," I replied. It's not that I can hide anything from her. No matter how I try to hide it, she will still find it out, and I'm not good at lying too.
While waiting for the snacks, we stayed in the living room, and Linus seated beside my father.
"So, Linus… What do you do for a living?" my father suddenly asked.
"I'm currently studying at C.U, Sir. Taking some Literature class to refreshen my knowledge," he answered, politely.
"You already finished a bachelor's degree?"
"Yes, Sir. BS Architecture."
What? Architecture? We've been together for weeks and never know about those things? Damn, it's my fault though, because I'm not asking anything about his life. Geez, I am sucked in entering a relationship.
"Wow. So, you're just having some good time entering college, huh, Linus?" Reina asked and it seems like a sarcastic one.
"I need to—"
"Food is ready," my mom blurted while holding a tray with the snacks on it. She put it down on the center table.
"Feel at home, Linus. Don't be shy," she said.
"I will, ma'am, and thank you."
Gosh, he's already a bachelor's degree holder and it's architecture. Does he already take a board exam?
We need to talk about it later. I'm going to ask him about it. We need to.
We finish eating and I did the washing of dishes. Linus and my parents were in the living room, while Reina already left.
"Are you sure you're fine here?" I asked when we climb upstairs and show the small guestroom. We don't have a huge house—a mansion for him, so, I hope he will be okay with it.
"Of course, love."
"If you need something, just knock on my door," I said and pointed to the room in front of the guest room. "My parent's room is that." I pointed to the room on the left—it's the master's bedroom.
"Just take a rest and I will wake you up when the food is ready," I said. "And let's talk about us, after dinner," I added. He nodded and I closed the door.
I climb down and walk to the kitchen, finding my mother cooking.
"Where's dad?" I asked and leaned at the counter aisle.
"He feeds the cows. How's your visitor?"
"He's taking a nap, mom. Hey, nana," I utter when my cat jumps over the counter. I carried her and petted her face. "You're doing great, baby?" I asked as if she knows to answer me.
"Is he your boyfriend, sweetie?"
I put down my cat and heaved a deep sigh. "Yes, Mom."
