Chapter 33 : The Last Chapter
The Last Chapter
AS planned, Ms. Dory and I boarded a plane going to Denmark. My hand couldn't stop sweating and trembling even if the weather is cold. I just don't know what to feel. I feel excited at the same time I feel nervous. The fast pounding of my heart gives a deafening sound. Ms. Dory beside me was already asleep.
Good gracious, it's my first time riding a plane. Ms. Dory did a huge favor to me, and I don't know how to repay her. She's so kind and I'm thinking why doesn't she settle down? She deserves everything and it seems like—I don't know but I can sense that there's a sadness reigning in her. Like how she looked at you, you can see through the depths of her eyes that she may have a painful past or something.
I want to ask her about it, but I feel ashamed. Like what a thick-face I am. And I don't want to cross the line. We're not close for me to know about it, and this is not just the first time that she helped me. I remember when I was struggling with my feelings towards Linus, she gave me wise words and advise me what should I do.
I told Ms. Dory that I will only be staying in Denmark for two days because classes resumed after the weekend. The one-week break will finally be over. Even if I'm taking risks about this forlorn love I have for Linus, I just can't sacrifice my studies over it. If I can make things at the same time, then I will. But studying is more important.
And that Linus, he will make sure that he can give me enough reason why he left without a word. But damn, our life status is different. He's the sky and I'm the ground. I can't reach him. how far our relationship will go? Are we still being together until the end? What if he was arranged to marry someone else? What will happen to me then?
I'm hoping that the sacrifices I make will not be put into the trash. I don't want to go home with my heart breaking into pieces. But now, as long as I didn't hear his side, I will still trust him.
He told me to trust him. Trust is an important thing in a relationship. I love him, and I'm willing to hear everything and accept everything no matter what it is.
According to Ms. Dory, she can accompany me inside the palace. The security of the whole place is strict, but Ms. Dory is an important person in the palace as her grandmother was a former court lady. I've been thinking about what her grandmother's age was. And I've been curious too about Ms. Dory's age, it seems like she was in her mid-40's. She's beautiful, petite, and has glowing skin. Her eyes were blue, and she got a heart-shaped face, and what I like the most about her physique is her long, straight, black hair.
"Are you okay, Becca?" she asked. She sat properly and looked at me. "Why don't you take a nap? The trip is still long. And we will be there within three hours."
"I'm okay, ma'am. I'm not sleepy yet," I replied.
She smiled at me, "are you nervous?"
I nodded.
Well, that's normal. She folded her blanket and put it in front of her.
"Do you want to hear a story?" she asked. My eyes widened and I nodded.
"Do you believe it when I say that I was in your situation too when I'm in college trying to chase the man I love and ever love?"
I don't know what to reply to. She smiled again but there's a lit of bitterness in it.
"He also left me without saying a word, but he's not a prince unlike Linus," she said and let out a soft chuckle. "I looked for him for years. I never stopped not until I found him, but it seems like fate cut the tie that binds us and makes things harder for me. But I didn't lose hope. I pray every night that He will help me find him. Thus, He did. He led me the way to him, but fate really played to me… to us, finally, I found him, but he already left the world and take the side of the Lord."
"I'm sorry about—"
"No, it's fine. I just want to share some portion of my painful past as I see how you take an effort to find things out between you and Linus. And when I found out the reason why he left me, my world slowly tore down and I almost lost my insanity—it's crazy how love turns us, right? You can make impossible things possible to the extent that you will almost be lost yourself." She laughed and the tear fell on her eyes never escape my sight.
"He left me because he's afraid that he might not fulfill his promise because he has cancer. He found out that he's ill. And that he decided to leave me as he can't talk to me about it. He chooses to be a coward than, to tell the truth to me. Do you know what was the feeling when your beloved never seems to trust you? It's hurt, Becca. I love him and I will understand him, but he chooses his fears and hid in the dark."
I don't know what to say. And I can't help myself not to cry about it.
"Hey." Ms. Dory laughed. "Did I make you cry? Don't worry I already accepted it."
"But you didn't try to find a new man again," I said.
She shook her head. "I can't open my heart to anyone again. I tied to, but I always find myself standing alone. And choose to be alone."
Hearing Ms. Dory's story thought me to trust him more. To hear him more. And to let him tell me everything.
WHEN we landed in Denmark, there's already a black limousine waiting for us. again, I was astonished. I have never ridden in a fancy car ever in my life, and I only saw this in the movies. Lucky me.
We go straight to Ms. Dory's grandma and have our lunch. They welcomed me warmly. And the old woman laughed fantastically when she knew the reason why I flew in Denmark. She even told me that we'll go there three in the afternoon. Which excites me more at the same time makes me feel nervous.
I thought it would be easy but it's not. Because the moment I stepped my feet in the ground of the palace, my knees weakened and I almost trip on the floor. Good thing Ms. Dory caught me before I fall. Ms. Dory makes me wear a Claire Knitted semi-puff dress. And it flaunts my legs. And my neckline.
"Careful, honey. Remember what I told you, just relax," she said, and I just nodded as I composed myself.
Ms. Dory's grandma is in front of us with two men in her side. Geez, I think royalty never suits me. I'm just a commoner who loves to wear pants and blouses or shirts.
"Good day, your royal highness," Grandma Agatha said.
A man in his fifties welcomes us and leads us to the hall. I gasped as I saw how victorious the place is. I looked up and saw the huge chandelier in the ceiling. I bet it cost a lot of zeros.
"May I know what brought you here. and who's this beautiful young lady beside you Dory," the man said whom I assumed that he's the king as he resembles Linus.
I smiled at him. "The name is Rebecca, your highness," I said, politely and bowed.
"Glad to see you, my lady," he said.
"So, how's your son, your highness?" Mrs. Dory asked as she sat down on the fancy sofa covered with gold fabric and beads were lined, gleaming to my eyes.
"Still stubborn as ever. He just got here days ago."
Ms. Dory glanced at me. "So, where is he? I haven't seen him for a while," she said.
The king sighed. "Arena."
"Oh. I bet he's fighting your guards again, your highness," Grandma Agatha said.
The king nodded and smiled again. And I can't be at ease in my seat if I can't see him. Seems Ms. Dory feels me thus she excused herself to look for Linus, as Ms. Dory is an important visitor, the king never refused.
"You can bring the beautiful lady with you, Dory," said the king.
Great!
