Chapter 29 : His Words
| His Words |
THE FOLLOWING days, things went well between Linus and me. I can say that he was very helpful and doesn't have any complaints about the work on the farm. He doesn't care even if he's already dirty. And he helped my father a lot. He worked hard to get cow's milk. Feed the chickens and take eggs on the poultry. I once asked him if he was already struggling with it because the activities of elite people are way different from poor people like us.
In just a few days, our one-week break will end and we will be back to studying again. More activities and lessons again. My part-time job at the café will be resumed. And I'm going to miss my parents again, but that's really how life is, you have to sacrifice for the sake of your dreams and your family. If you won't study, you will not reach your goals.
I heaved a deep sigh when I remember the scene the other day, at the top of the hill. Why do I have to promise that I will trust him? what does he mean by that? sometimes, I don't really understand Linus. He's mysterious. It looks like he's hiding something not only from me but from everyone. But he told me to trust him. as her girlfriend, of course, I will trust him because I love him. so, no matter what happens, I will trust him.
"Becca, call your father and Linus so that we can have lunch already," said mom.
"Alright, mom," I answered.
Linus and Dad are currently planting corn seeds. Since we can not afford to buy equipment for planting, dad is doing it manually. I hope Linus is okay. He presented to work with dad, after all.
My mother joked that he was like my fiancé that he needs to show off some of his elegance by doing kinds of stuff like helping my parents just to impress them.
I laughed because I never really thought that Linus would do such a thing about farming and when I say he's good with it, he really is.
I hope he will not change. And if he's having a hard time dealing with his parents, I hope they get along soon. It's hard when you're not on good terms with your parents, it seems like something is missing from you. If they can fix and solve the problem, why not talk about it, right? It is better if your family is intact and organized. Because when you have struggles, they can help you with it.
But sometimes, they will also destroy you, especially, your dreams. But we need to understand them because they also want the things that are good for you. Though sometimes, what is good for them might hurt you.
A common problem with rich people is that they will force their children to marry a man or woman to the person with the same state as them even if you don't love that person. They love arranged marriage even if their child was still inside the womb.
Wait… maybe that was Linus' problem? What if…
It looks like something hit my chest because of that thought. What if he arranged to marry someone else? What should I do then?
But he told me to trust him. So, I will trust him.
"Dad, Linus!" I shouted. But still, they were busy planting corns and they didn't hear me. I heaved a deep sigh. Why does my father didn't want to hire more men to work with him to speed up the planting? And every time I suggest it, he just replies that the land was not vast that he can even do the planting alone. But he's not getting any younger, sooner, he will have weaker bones that he may retire from planting.
I waved at Linus when he saw me. "Let's have lunch, said mom," I said and finally went closer to them. My father even scolded me because I'm already trampling some of the corn seed that has been planted on the soil.
Linus was already sweating because of the heat from the sun. even dad. "Come on, you must be hungry like me," I said which brings delight to them.
"Oh, dear, don't eat too much and I'm already liking your figure. It is better than before. Because before, you were fat," said father who made my cheeks turn red because of embarrassment.
He really likes to embarrass me. "Okay, fine, daddy. Will you stop embarrassing me in front of my boyfriend?" I said and walked back to the house. And I was even more annoyed when I heard Linus soft chuckle and he told me that I was cute.
I didn't look back because he seems like he's having fun seeing me get annoyed too. For his information, I'm not cute. Because I am beautiful. Beautiful.
"Oh, why do you look like that? you seem like you lost some money," my mom said when I got back.
"I don't know and ask about it to your husband. He's having fun teasing—"
"In case you forgot, he's your father, sweetie. Don't act guilty just go with the flow. Give out some humor. You know your father, he got high percent with his sense of humor," said mom.
I just nodded and helped mom set the table and prepare the meals. The two men also entered the house and my father went straight to the sink while Linus was left in the living room. They were both barefoot because they left their boots outside, I guess.
When the table was set, I approached Linus. I took his slippers from the shoe rack and handed them to him. "Take off daddy's jacket and change your clothes." Since Linus brought only a few clothes, my father had to lend him some of his clothes.
Linus didn't move and kept staring at me. I raised my left brow. "What? Will you going to change or not?"
He then laughed softly. "Yes, Ma'am," he replied. He approached me and kissed me on the forehead. "You're more beautiful when you blushed, baby," he whispered and climbed upstairs.
