CHAPTER FORTY – SEVEN: DIDN'T EXPECT THAT
ROSE' AMARA POV
My attention is focused on the ceiling, but not because it is a basic white surface. I'm constantly wondering how my life could have gone so badly. I'm still in bed.
It's not just because of the mishap I'm in. It all began when I decided to take Maria's place as the heir apparent to the throne of the family. While I was focused on making sure my twin sister was safe at the time, I also found myself drawn to this life due to the danger and the sudden bursts of excitement that were absent from my quiet existence with my family.
As a result of a series of events, I began chasing danger in an effort to seize it by the horns. I had no idea that while I was running that race, I was losing parts of who I was... the little girl who loved her family and would sacrifice anything for them.
Uncle Raven gave me a sense of security, but he had turned into a monster whose shadow stalks me everywhere. The only way to get rid of it is to utterly give up, toss aside all of my previous efforts and aspirations.
I've witnessed mature men quiver in dread throughout my time because of what they've done. Men who will do anything for money, power, or anything the brotherhood has to give around me.
Never once did I aspire to be one of those men. And contrary to what they believe, I never wished to dominate them or violently seize the kingdom.
I never cared if I had a penis between my legs; all I ever wanted was to be taken seriously for what I had to contribute. Never once did I have any misunderstandings about who I am or what I am capable of.
Knowing my strengths and limitations, I worked hard to maintain my position as a leader.
So how come, in a split second, I find myself in the midst of nowhere? Why have I fallen so far that I'm contemplating giving up?
"Rose, even if you're not a male, you're an Amber. Do you understand what Ambers do? Even though the cost is enormous, we seize the throne. Don't be frightened to let your own blood flow."
Uncle Raven's comments shake me from the inside out and hit me like an earthquake. Why should I give up? Not only is my life in danger. My granduncle prevented visiting me from my twin sister, Father, and Ana due to safety concerns. Even if I gave up on myself, there is no way I would give up on them.
The door swings open and then shuts as Hades enters in his customary gloomy hush. Sometimes he appeared to be as strong, unyielding, and impenetrable as the ceiling I was gazing at. And right now, I really need that strength.
It's not horrible that I'm weak.
"Are you better now?"
"Is he outdoors?"
'No. He left to get dressed after I persuaded him to do so.
'Finally."
His frame dwarfs the chair opposite me as he lowers himself onto it. "Why did you insist on having him leave so adamantly? "
"I haven't forgotten anything."
'What?" He gave me a fleeting look as if I'd gone insane.
I slouched down and pulled the IV needle out of my arm before discarding it.
"Was the fall also not true? Are you going to explain what's happening?"
"Although I don't recall how I ended up there, that aspect was real. I think I was shoved by someone."
'Who?"
"I'm not sure. They sounded strong and lacked an accent.
"A hundred men are in the mansion, but they wouldn't dare to touch you, so that doesn't help."
I won't utter his name out loud, but I know who dared to do that. If I do, Hades will kill Ethan right now.
Waiting still. He not only sliced me open and repeatedly stabbed me, but he also exploited me to destroy my entire family.
I'm not sure how far his plan goes or how far in advance he sowed his destructive seeds if he passes away today. I stupidly believed that my life had ended when I was seized by that shadow, and the last flavor to leave my mouth was that of bitter betrayal.
I shed a tear as well, since the person I had been gradually putting my trust in had been preparing for my demise. And all I wanted to ask him at that point was why. Why would he harm me like that?
When I awoke in the hospital, those ridiculous ideas vanished immediately. I will not inquire as to why, since I have another opportunity. To make him pay, I'll employ it.
Finishing Ethan is not that difficult. When I inform anyone in the brotherhood about what I heard, he will already be dead. I could tell Hades, who he's been eyeing unfavorably for a while, but that wouldn't be the best way to harm him.
Aborting his plan is the ideal way to ruin him because his only goal was to destroy us. Then he can pass away. He can only atone for his wrongdoing after that.
'Rose?" My name is called Hades.
I think things through before I speak. "I'll investigate. They'll eventually try to capture me once more. That is extremely risky."
"Hades, no success has ever been achieved without taking risks."
He snarls. "Hades is not here."
"You should hold your breath because, for me, Hades will always be the answer."
"Now that we're back on topic, why did you do it?"
"Do what?"
"Leave no doubt that you've forgotten everything. Do you realize how much stress you have put the boss through? "
Only the doctor, Eya, and Zeth are aware of the situation because, "I need the perpetrator tricked; for that, everyone had to stay in the dark."
"How did you initially come up with this plan?"
"When my twin sister experienced amnesia, I just repeated what she had informed me had happened to her."
"What comes next?"
He murmured, rubbing his beard with his hand. He seems to be losing patience, I can tell.
"I believe I have a connection with the British."
"I have a spy already."
'No. This one is more in the seat."
'Yes?" I nod.
'And for that, you have to pretend you lost your memory?"
I use careful word choice to avoid mentioning Ethan by name. Hades is still unaware of that. "Yes, because the person who told me this believes he heard him. If he thinks I've lost my memories, his guard will be down, and he'll feel like he got away with it."
His pupils got smaller. "Who is he?"
"I'll let you know when it's appropriate."
"Or you can tell me right now."
Hades said, "That's not the point.
"And what is that?" That I require him to believe I am forgetful."
"However, he will continue to watch you, and once he realizes you are lying, he will return for you."
"By then, my mission will be complete."
"You'll continue to gamble."
"If it means taking a chance, I'm all in."
He snarled. "That's risky," I said.
"Danger is merely a barrier. I made a commitment to give back to the brotherhood just as much as I had received, and I won't let anyone take it away. Just give me your support, Hades. Only you and my guardians are aware of my situation.'
He murmured, "Yes," and then asks, "How did you get the doctor to tell a lie on your behalf? Did you pay him?'
"Kind of. I gave him shares because his wife works for a company." I grinned. And if he even spreads the word about it, Zeth has threatened to pull out his teeth.
Without Eya, Zeth and Hades in this situation, I'm not sure how I would respond.
For an excessively long time, Hades looks at me strangely as if he were trying to figure out one of his mysteries. He has a lot of those; large puzzles that take him weeks to figure out. It's an odd habit, yet it expresses something about his character. Despite what his appearance and demeanor might suggest. Hades wouldn't rush in like an irrational bull. He thinks things over first, and when he hits, he may be at least as brutal as Ethan.
'What?"
"I'm thinking."
"Regarding what?"
"About Ethan's exclusion from this."
When I think of him, my chest tightens, yet it only finds emptiness. Because hearing his name would make me have to recall what he said on the phone, I don't want to hear it. The final, terrible remark crumbled the bridge we had been building like it was made of sand.
"Rose is nothing."
He destroyed every possible combination we could ever have. I could have thought about forgiving him, but that idea has also crumbled into little, irreparable pieces. He not only betrayed me, but also everything I hold dear.
My family.. I have to... My honor
I had no choice but to crush him in retaliation after he destroyed me.
I tell Hades in an emotionless voice, "He doesn't need to know. He is not a member.
"However, he is your husband."
"He doesn't immediately have the right to know every detail of my life just because of that."
Hades's eyes get smaller as though he thinks I'm playing a ruse on him.
"Back then, you didn't appear to disagree when he claimed that the relationship between a husband and wife is more significant than everything else."
That is what he said.
"That is irrelevant. Just don't tell him about it."
'Why?"
'Because. Why do you keep pushing to let him in? "
"Why not explain to me why you want him gone? Unless…"
'What?"
"Are you worried about him? I'm gonna kill that if ever."
Sh*t... Sh*t... Exactly for this reason, Hades shouldn't be aware. I don't change my appearance, since he is observing me so intently that he will notice.
'No. Obviously not. I just have my doubts about his commitment to the family."
"You put your trust in him to become pregnant while dating him."
"He should at least be aware of the fact that I'm not pregnant, Hades."
"You aren't?"
"I didn't want to let Uncle down, so I admitted that it was a false positive."
'Huh."
"Is that a tone of relief or dissatisfaction? "
'Neither. merely putting the pieces together. So? What comes next in your devilish plan? "
I take a long breath and let it out through my teeth.
"That's it. I get to play now."
"Hades, this is how it will proceed."
