CHAPTER ELEVEN
CHAPTER ELEVEN: ENEMY AT THE WEDDING
Min Hao
He is closer to me than his guard, slimmer, and exudes the aura of an assassin working underground. He was wearing his jacket when the ceremony started, so I assume he misplaced it and is now just sporting a black shirt and a pair of jeans. Like his guard, he has Asian eyes but is darker and enigmatic. His hair is long, inky black, pulled back and reaches his nape.
His face is larger than most of his compatriots, and his demure beauty fits the part.
Kai is a dangerous individual and the shareholder of the local Yakuza. He is still one of our allies and a cunning investment in our company.
"What are you doing, Min?" I yelled as I let go of my hands to each side of me.
He took a little pause before speaking softly with a perfect American accent. "I suppose I should ask you that."
"What the heck are you talking about?"
'I'll admit that I didn't think you could pull off a hit at your wedding, but I won't make the same error again."
"A hit?"
I notice the blood dripping from his shirt when he indicated to his side. I didn't notice it earlier because the fabric was black.
'What is your message, Miss Amber? Do you think you could threaten me? Either your sniper missed, or maybe...you asked him to do it on purpose."
The words of his employer cause his guard to tighten up even more, and his grip on the gun becomes lethal. He's going to shoot at any moment. I am paralyzed by the idea of passing away in this manner, but I cling to reason since it only values it.
'We don't have a sniper."
The answer is, "Yes, you do."
The only sniper the brotherhood ever employed was accompanying me to the altar.
'It might have been a separate, hired sniper."
'And you believe I would employ them to terrorize my family during my wedding?"
At first, I didn't believe it, but with each passing second, it seemed more likely. Behind Min, a shadow comes and raises a gun to his head. When I see Ethan's face, my breathing becomes laboured. He appeared to not be holding a rifle because of his firm footing and solid grip.
'Tell your guard to put down his weapon."
The way Min Hao looks seems unaffected, as if nothing is at stake. "Not until Miss Amber admits,"
'Then your body will be collected by your guard."
'Additionally, you will be picking up your wife's."
I look into his unbiased black eyes and say, "I didn't do it." "You know that I would never endanger my family."
"You could sacrifice one of your members for the greater good."
"We don't believe in that brotherhood. We're one for all and all for one."
I heard the window crack and replied, "No." A sniper at the scene would be obvious to even a little child.
"Who do you believe it to be?"
"The British," I declared with assurance. 'You were caught in the gunfire by pure accident, or they're also hauling you in since you're our ally. They're after us. Uncle Raven was the target."
The guard lowers the gun while making a two-finger gesture toward Min Hao. Ethan doesn't vanish from behind him, possibly because he may have immediately ordered his guard to shoot him.
He asks, "Which option do you think is? Was it an accident or deliberate?"
I don't even hesitate to say, "Intentional."
"If it had been an accident, you wouldn't have been that lucky."
He moves closer to me without trying to block the blood from his side from dripping from his lips. It may not be much, but it is still a wound.
"I'm going to stop the company."
I puzzledly inquired, "Not Uncle Raven?"
He points to my waist and says, "Not Uncle Raven." I follow his eyes and notice blood over my front and wrists. I must have discovered it while I was creeping about.
'Congratulations on your marriage."
He likely intended to shake my hand when he reached for my hand, but Ethan moved in front of us and obscured him from my view.
'After threatening to murder her, you are not allowed to touch her."
I can't see Min Hao's face, but I can hear the smile in his tone when he says, "Fair enough. Until our next encounter."
The guard follows him after bowing his head in respect. Ethan turns around so quickly after they go that I recoil in fear. He had never before had this look on his face. I can see the true man inside him thanks to his furious eyes and the absence of the mask he typically wears. And what do I notice inside? Well, nobody can understand it since it's so complicated.
"What in the fuck are you doing here?"
I had to struggle momentarily to free myself from his magnetic grip. 'I informed you that I would accompany you."
"And I told you to remain in place."
"Just because we're barely married, doesn't mean you have the right to tell me what to do."
He kicks the car, setting off the alarm, "Bloody hell, Rose.Would your stubbornness have kept you alive if he had shot you?
'He is one of our allies. Thus, he wouldn't have."
'What if he decided you weren't an ally and killed you to tell Uncle Raven?" He wouldn't act that way.
The question is, "What if he did?"
"I would have managed to escape it,"
"Do you understand that once the bullet enters your body, there is no way to escape death?"
I nod, even though I'm not sure if he's still discussing this issue or something else entirely. We have different skill sets, and I even recognize that. For me, this could have gone very badly.
I yell as he holds me in his bridal pose as he puts a hand behind my back. For support, I use my fingers to hold onto his shirt.
The question "What are you doing?"
'It's about time we finished our marriage, Princess."
