Chapter Twenty-Two
We continued on our journey to the pack house, no one was about as we walk down the dark path. I assumed this place would look scary at night as it's literally in the middle of the woods, but they have lights everywhere and it looks quite nice if I'm being honest.
The pack house soon comes into view on our journey, it's there I start to see a few people walking about doing their thing. Then I quickly remember the rule, regular pack members are not allowed passed that point, so that's why I didn't see anyone! I just thought everyone was scared of the dark or something. As we inch even closer I spot two people stood outside the steps of the building, Martha and Scott stood patiently at the bottom of the stairs.
"Erika!" She cheers before running towards me, or her version of running as she was in heels and that's not her specialty, she's very nearly broken bones due to her heels.
I'm soon bear hugged nearly causing me to fall on the floor, luckily Cody moves behind me to stop me from actually falling backwards. She just holds me so tightly that I thought I was about to loose feeling in my arms, she hadn't even given me the chance to hug back when she lunged at me, so I was stuck with my arms by my side.
"This is the first hug I've given you in basically 5 months!" She cheers still trapping me within her tight grip, this was something I was used to though so it wasn't a big deal "this is also a thank you hug, for saving mine and all the other girls lives" she says giving me a final squeeze before pulling away, I move my arms slightly just checking if I still had feeling in them from the hug.
"You don't need to thank me for that, it shouldn't have been happening and it just sucks that the people back in town think it's okay" I say still bummed that I couldn't have changed my dads mind about them being banned from town, all their families are there but he doesn't see it that way.
"When I told Scott what was happening, he was very close to coming into town and rescuing me himself, but I told him that I knew somehow you were gonna get us all out of there and look, you did" she smiles happily while I take a look to Scott, he has a thing with attacking the town.
I feel Cody wrap his arm around my waist telling to calm down, he knew what I was thinking without me even having to speak. Scott slowly starts to make his way over with a smile on his face, I hope he can still smile after what he put the town through. Honestly, Cody should have just told me why he did what he did, because now I'm going over multiple different scenarios and all of them aren't painting Scott to be a very nice guy.
"This is all Martha's been talking about since I told her about dinner" he smiles wrapping his arm around her shoulders, he sounds like a generally nice guy so I don't understand why he would attack the down in the first place, Cody should have just told me!
"Yeah I started to annoy myself the amount I was going on, I just haven't saw someone from back home in so long" she says with another smile on her face, I don't think she's actually stopped smiling since I've saw her.
"Babe this is your home now" Scott smiles as she just rolls her eyes, but I got what she was feeling immediately.
It's nice and all that Cody and it seems like Scott, are putting in such an effort to make us feel like home. Yes this is our new home and it will feel like that soon, but we knew our town as our only home. When you're in a little town like that, it's pretty unlikely that you're ever gonna move away because that's where your whole life is. So it's been hard to accept the fact that it isn't our home anymore and we have a new one, so when we're talking about our home back in town and we get corrected, it just makes a really uneasy feeling start to take over. I know I'm probably over reacting and it hasn't even been a full day away from home yet, but that's just how I'm feeling in the moment.
"Thank you Erika, I don't think I really said how thankful I am to you for saving Martha's life" Scott smiles trying to be nice but I couldn't get the feeling he was holding something back, once again he seems like such a nice guy but I don't know, I'm just getting this feeling from him "dinners probably getting cold, let's go" he smiles moving Martha to start walking up to the pack house, I just turn to Cody giving him a look.
"You're doing great" he whispers near my ear, I think he knew how badly I wanted to say something to Scott, but I don't wanna ruin everyone's night so I'll stay quiet, for now.
I send him a smile before we both start walking into the pack house, behind Martha and Scott. Once we walk through the door a "woah" left my lips, this place looked amazing. On the outside it looks just like any other work office building, but when you walk through the doors it's dramatically different. It was a very old and vintage design, up on the ceiling were huge chandeliers! It was posh looking but also not too posh looking, you could tell this was a place a lot of people spent so much time in and loved it.
"You should see this place in the morning, it's loud with people everywhere" Cody says as he continues to guide me through this amazing place, I could just tell what he was saying was true, I just got this weird feeling from the place.
We pass a few people who send us a nice smile as we went by, I send them one back as Scott opens the door to a huge dining room. Which as like the rest of this place, was breathtakingly beautiful. Cody leads me to the head of the huge table, I mean it has to be the biggest table I've ever seen. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole pack sit and have dinner together, it was that big! Once we arrive at the very head of the table, he pulls a seat out of me where I thank him sitting down.
Before everyone could fully take their seats, a short man hurries into the room followed by a bunch of others behind him. He starts shouting orders where they begin to place what looked like a feast in front of us, I just look so confused on what the heck is going on. The chaos lasted for a few seconds before the people start to file back out of the room, leaving only the short dude stood by us.
"Dinner is served, I would like to wish you a welcome to the pack Luna, we all know you're gonna lead us into many victories and bring so much love" he says towards me bowing his head, this takes me by surprise as it's the first time anyone has ever called me Luna.
I send him a smile before he bows his head and quickly leaves the room, once the door closes the room was just silent for a second. Me and Martha just sat there looking wildly confused and concerned, while the guys just started tucking into their food.
"Okay, I don't know what that was or who that was but okay" is all I could think to say, this just makes a laugh escape Cody's lips as he places his fork back down.
"That was Ed, he's been the pack cook ever since I can remember, he is great at his job but not so great at communicating with people" he laughs while I just nod my head totally agreeing.
"I know you said he's great at his job, but I have no idea what any of this food is" Martha says lifting what looked like a leg up from a plate, that looked like maybe a rabbit.
"Once a month we have some of the pack members go hunting, they bring back whatever they've caught and we have a huge feast" Scott explains while I just examine what was in front of me, whatever it was it was very dead "we have a testing dinner the night before and tomorrow is when us and the pack will eat together" he goes into explain while something moving on a plate causes me and Martha to jump like 5 feet in the air.
"You know I prefer if when someone else cooks my food, it's dead before it lands on my plate" I say grabbing hold of Cody and hiding my head behind him, why wasn't he scared of that thing moving?!
"It's just our wolves instincts, I keep forgetting you guys don't have wolves" Scott laughs picking up whatever animal that was, I once again hide my face away from whatever was happening.
"I'm not hungry anymore" I whisper actually starting to feel quite sick, Cody leans forward taking my plate and starts to put things on it.
"Here, none of this was caught by any of the pack members, it's mainly fruit and vegetables from the garden" he says placing my plate back in front of me.
If this food was placed in front to me as I child I would have thrown a fit, there was nothing but healthy stuff in front of me. But now I've seen what other stuff is on this table, I will gladly eat this stuff. I thank Cody taking a bite out of a red pepper while I spot Martha nearly puking, this whole new life thing is gonna be harder than I thought to get used to.
