Chapter Thirty-Six
"Sorry to just drop in like this son, your mother was saying how much she missed you" the man ,who I now know as Cody's dad said.
He walks further into the kitchen placing their bags neatly on the counter, I look away knowing my face will just be of shock and surprise.
"That's correct hunny, I know the pack is important to you but you can't be working all the time. That was your father's problem, also the reason I told him to resign early" his mother says crossing her arms as she spoke, this is first time we're meeting and all I'm getting is stuck up vibes.
"Don't listen to her son, if she had to run a pack she would be the same way, how is the pack doing?" His dad asks but his eyes finally land on me, he's been too busy sorting bags to see me sat here.
"And who is this?" His mother asks now seeing me too, I'm starting to think I liked it better when they hadn't noticed I was here.
"This is my mate, Erika-" Cody starts to say but his mother is quick to cut him off, in seconds she had spun my chair around looking at me.
"Why didn't you say that already, you just allowed us to go on about boring pack stuff when she's sat right here" she smiles holding my hands tightly and looking me all over, I take a worried look to Cody who just gives me a reassuring look but he didn't lion too happy "I see you're marked which is great, you're beautiful! You might be a human but that's a mere technicality" she rambles on, the last part does stick out to me though, I'm glad a part of me is a technicality to her.
"How is her being human a technicality mum?" Cody asks pulling his mothers hand from mine, she looked rather shocked when he did that.
"I'm just saying, humans are known to be a little weaker than werewolves and we need your children to be as strong as....well a normal wolf" she smiles happily but not gonna lie, that did sting a little, I feel Cody tense up beside me rising to his feet.
"You don't know a thing about Erika but you're standing there making assumptions about her, I have you know she is the strongest person that I know regardless, that she's a human. She is a credit to this pack as she has proven the couple of weeks she's been here, ask any of our pack members and they'll tell you the same. I know you're my mother but I will not have you disrespected and as you're in our pack, disobey her. If you continue I will have no choice but to see that you're escorted from the pack" Cody says standing in front of me as he went, his mother looked once again shocked as his dad moves forward.
"I didn't mean anything by it son, Erik would know that-" his mother says but once again is cut off by Cody.
"It's Erika" he corrects her with his hands on his hips, I take his arm from behind hoping that would calm him down "now if you are choosing to stay, I will have one of the pack members escort you to your house" he says in a powerful tone, his mother looks at him then down at me before walking quite quickly out the house.
"Your mother didn't mean anything by it son-" his dad tries to defend her but Cody holds his hand up dismissing him.
"You are just defending your mate dad, well so I am, it's harder to control me now I've found her isn't it? " is all he says before turning to face me with his back to his dad, woah that's a total conversation ender.
His dad nods his head before storming out the house, leaving his bags neatly on the counter. Okay what just happened? That was a lot to go down in two minutes.
"I'm sorry Erika, my mother doesn't like to think before she starts to talk. I want you to know that everything I said back there was true, I don't think of you any differently" he says pulling me up to stand with him, I just smile rubbing his arm.
"You don't have to apologise, I don't think your mother actually meant what she said and if she did, no skin off my back because I don't care" I smile, he smiles placing a kiss on my lips but I could tell he was still annoyed.
"This why I hadn't told her I found you yet, I knew she was going to come around here and start insulting you or tell me how to do things. That's exactly what she was like when my dad was Alpha, she basically ran the pack as she'd tell him what to do. I haven't saw it yet but now you're here I can see straight through it, she's trying to control me!" He shouts slamming his hand down on the counter, this does take me by surprise and I nearly jump out of my skin.
"They've forgotten their bags, why don't I leave you to cool off and take the bags to them" I suggest not wanting to be in this hostile environment, I had enough of that with my ex. Cody turns his head picking them up and chucking them across the room.
"No! You are staying away from them, I'm not having that woman start filling your head with lies. They aren't getting their claws in you, I won't let them" he says starting to leave the kitchen but stops "you're not allowed to see them Erika" he says before fully leaving the kitchen and running up stairs, I take my seat back at the counter just staring ahead.
That really blew up out of nowhere, his mother didn't say anything that I would think would make him react like that. There has to be some history of his mother trying to control him, as like I said nothing she said there sounded like she was controlling, apart from when she said she told his dad to resign early but that doesn't mean she forced him. I need answers which aren't going to come from Cody, another person soon comes into mind causing me to stand up.
I leave him a note on the counter so he'll know where I am, now I'm marked we can mind-link but I know if I told him I'm going out now, he would try and stop me. I make my way out the kitchen and into the hall, checking the stairs to see if he's there before opening the door and leaving. As it was the middle of winter I immediately have to hug myself from the cold, thankfully Reece only lived next door. I run down the steps of our house and out the gate, I actually haven't been in Reece's house.
I open the black gate, which side note was freezing, I was worried my hand was gonna get stuck to it. As I reach the door I hear Cody's mum crying from somewhere, I turn my head trying to locate her but I couldn't see her anywhere. I was about to walk back down the stairs to see where she was, but the front door opens and Reece is stood in the doorway, I didn't even have to knock.
As I turn back around to look at him, his eyes were swollen which just tells me he's been crying. He clears his throat a little before talking.
"I'm glad you're hear Erika, we need to talk" he said moving aside to let me walk in, I send him a little smile entering the house.
It was a real scene when I walked in let me tell you.
