Chapter Forty-Three
It's been a week since I spoke to Tristan, the day after I felt so bad still. Maybe I should have gone about the conversation in a different way, yes all those things needed to he said but maybe not in the way I did. Cody hasn't left my either, he's telling me it's due to the huge meeting he has, he won't be home for the entire day and some of the night. I told him he didn't have to make up for that, we have loads of other days that we can spend every minute with each other.
Today was the day of his huge meeting, when I woke up he wasn't there but he did leave me a sweet note. Remember when we had that mini picnic in my bedroom, the night I found out he was a werewolf and what we are. I kept saying over and over again that he was the perfect guy, that still stands with all the sweet notes he leaves me. I couldn't have asked for a nicer mate, especially after everything with Tristan! He told me in the note he would be thinking about me all day and how he doesn't want me going on any of my adventures while he's away.
Now I wasn't planning on going on a wild adventure outside of the pack, but I did have someone I needed to talk with inside the pack. My dad is just getting more and more out of control, the only way we're gonna be able to stop him is if we take the power he's got away from him. The only way we're gonna do that is if my mother goes to the town and takes over, but I know my mother isn't gonna want to do that but I'm next in line to be the towns leader, all I need her to do is sign the town over to me.
I knew this is gonna be another hard conversation I'm about to have, but this is one that I can't keep putting off for the sake of the town and everyone in it. I get ready and quickly leave the house, thankfully Cody had given me a key so I'd be able to get in the house once we were finished. I didn't actually know where her house was, all I did have was an address but I hadn't a clue how to get around this pack yet.
I stop to ask one of the pack members who was happy to help me, she even walked me all the way there so I knew I wouldn't get lost. I stood right outside the house just staring at it, once I knock on the door there's no way I can avoid the conversation anymore. I put my head up high and walk over to the door, as I reach my shaky hand to knock on the door it opens.
My mother was stood in the doorway just looking at me, I held my hands behind my back so she wouldn't know how nervous I was, my hands were shaking like crazy. We stood in silence for a second just looking at each other, neither of us wanted to be the first to speak in fear we'd say the wrong thing.
"I'm not here for a argument, we need to talk" I say finally breaking the silence, she sends me a little smile moving aside so I could walk in the house.
"It's cold outside, I don't want you catching a chill" she smiles gesturing with her arm for me to walk in, I nod my head before walking passed her and into the house.
The house was kind of the same size as my dads, definitely wasn't as prim and proper though. Growing up my mum wouldn't want the house to look how my dad has it now, she wanted people to see that the house was lived in and not like a showroom. When she left my dad went crazy and it definitely looks like a showroom now, I'm always worried I'm gonna spill something and he'll loose his marbles. But I can tell in this house, my mum has really took over. I follow behind her and into the kitchen where a man stood, looking at his face it became clear he was my mums mate Raymond, the guy she left us for. When he sees me he looks rather shocked and stands up straight, while at the same time two other young boys walk out into the kitchen. They give Raymond a weird look before turning to me, shock filling their faces too.
"Oh Luna, you're here" one says standing up straight while my mum takes my arms and moves me further into the kitchen "oh yeah, you're one of our mums birth child" he smiles which does take me off guard, they call my mum their mum.
"I'm here because I need to have a conversation with my mum" I say giving him a look as I went, I know he doesn't mean it in a vindictive way but it still hurts you know.
They nod beginning to walk out but my mum stops them, she grabs them by the hands pulling them back into the kitchen.
"No one has to leave, we're all family here" she says looking between us while I shake my head slightly, yeah the family you left your real family for "I know this must be hard for you to accept Erika, but your my family and so are they-" she says but I actually shake my head stepping back a little.
"I didn't come here to talk about you leaving or to play happy families, I came here to talk about dad" I say which I could tell was bothering Raymond a little, he started to tense and growl a little "if you have a problem with that leave, as much as you may not like it she was married to him for years before you came and ruined our lives, so suck it up" I say spitefully at him as I went, there is a lot I want to say to that man but will have to reframe from doing so.
He gulps a little looking down with a nod, he can't argue with the truth I guess. My mother sends a sympathetic smile over to me, I take a deep breath in before continuing.
"Dad has changed since you left, I mean you saw the way he was acting when you spoke to him last week. He went all over protectiveness when you left, made me and Ethan quit our jobs and forced us to stay in the house so we couldn't go missing too" I say having to give some background, I was hoping I could get her to understand all the trouble started when she left, than it'll be easier for her to sign over the town to me.
"I'm so sorry" she sighs looking down as she spoke, I mean yeah she should feel bad for what she put us through.
"But since everything with this pack and the town, he's got so much worse and has switched gears and is now doing the same thing to the town, but much worse. He's made himself like this dictator, he's killing innocent people if they don't agree with his way of thinking, forcing people to do what he says. He's out of control mum" I say looking up at her my eyes watering a little, do not cry Erika, now is definitely not the time "there's only one thing that's gonna stop him and that's the towns leader" I tell her which soon makes realisation fill her face, but she just shakes her head.
"Erika, of course I wanna help the town and stop your dad, but I'm sorry I can't go back to that town. This is my home now" she says which not gonna lie was kind of selfish, but I already thought passed this.
"I'm not asking you to come back to the town and start being a leader, I'm asking you to sign the town over to me, I mean I am next in line to be the leader anyway" I say but I knew how selfish that made me sound.
"I'm not doing because I want the power of the town, let's be honest I'm the Luna of this place I really don't need that power. But you haven't saw what the people back in town are going through, the police are running that place and beating the residents. They're scared for their lives all because of dad" I say remembering what I saw when I was looking for Martha, the police aren't concerned about the lives of the people anymore "what you said back when we first spoke, I do agree with you. Now I've found Cody I don't even want to imagine what life would be like without him, I would much rather stay here and just forget about the town but I can't. Those people back there are like family and I can't just let my family get treated the way they are, I just need you to sign this document" I say pulling it out of my bag, did I forget to mention I got Reece to sneak back in town and get the right paperwork?
I walk over to her handing her the paperwork, she looks down at it for a second with a sigh. In my opinion, if she was never gonna go back to the town why still insist on being the leader. Once again I'm next in line anyway.
"Do you wanna know something, I was so close to coming back and seeing you all a few years ago. It was around Christmas time, I was feeling so bad about leaving and kept thinking what a terrible mother I must be for just leaving you. I even left this place and went to the house, I was stood ten feet away when I saw you. You, Ethan and your dad were outside hanging Christmas decorations. You were laughing and joking, I could see how generally happy you were" she smiles which does take me by surprise, I had no idea she ever came back to see us.
"I saw how much you and Ethan had grown and the amazing job your dad had done, so I knew if one of you even saw a glimpse of me that the happiness and joy you were feeling would leave. I would have to tell you the real reason for why I left and I just couldn't do that, call me selfish but I couldn't" she said which was true, Ethan would probably have one of his episodes and from what I've seen from dad, I wouldn't even know what he would do.
"Your mum never forgot about you, every birthday she'd be up crying saying how much she missed you and you're brother. She would say she didn't know if she did the right thing and would say she was gonna leave me, but as you know leaving your mate would be so hard" Raymond said from across the room, I look over sending him a little smile as I went.
My phone ringing in my pocket breaks interrupts the moment, I pull it out to hang up when I see Ethan's name light up the screen. I immediately pull it to my ear confused, the thing I was told on the other end sends this whole situation in a different direction.
