Chapter Twenty-Three
It was the next morning, last nights dinner was something I've never seen before. I stuck with my vegetables all night, while Martha actually tried some of the more alive options, I have never seen that much puke in my entire life. But overall it was a good night, I got to know Scott a little better which just made me even more confused.
At the dinner he was so nice, at first I thought he must be putting some kind of act on. If he was he should become an actor because I never saw through it once, or he's generally such a nice guy. But that doesn't explain why he went and attacked the town, even went as far as to go against Cody's orders. What could the town have done to make him so angry? We lost a few people that day for reasons none of us knew and I still don't know, I haven't a clue if Cody's gonna tell me or not.
He claimed the reason for him not telling me is because he doesn't want to upset me, could that mean whatever Scott was mad about had to do with me or my family? Is Cody worried that I'm gonna pull Scott up about it? Maybe Martha doesn't know it was really Scott who instigated the whole attack, so Cody is doing him a favour? But that still doesn't explain why I can't know! If it's so bad and would really upset Martha, I wouldn't tell her.
But there isn't much I can do in terms of finding out, I can't really force Cody to tell me because than he might force me to say what happened with my ex. Well I know he wouldn't really force me, but I would feel obligated to tell him if he told me about Scott. I could do my own diving in and see what I find out, I would want someone to help me and the obvious choice would be Martha, but then again I'm plotting against her mate so she isn't gonna want to help me. See the sticky situation I'm in?!
I decide I have to try my hardest to put the reason of the attack to the side for now, as hard as that is! I had just finished getting dressed, the weather had taken a turn on the colder side, well it is nearly winter so I guess that's expected. Martha picked out a bunch of really warm jumpers, so I decided on a dark red one with just black jeans.
On my way down the stairs the smell of bacon fills my nose, it smelt like heaven. The vegetables last night were amazing, but that's all I've eaten in coming up to two days. As I reach the bottom I turn to the kitchen, where I spot Cody cooking something on the hob of the cooker. This brings a smile to my lips as I watch him, a month ago I didn't think I would be in this position. I knew of Cody but I didn't know what we were or what he is, but I'm so happy and thankful that he ended up telling me sooner rather than later.
I make my way into the kitchen where he immediately looks up, I send him a smile leaning over the counter to see what he was cooking. My nose was correct about the bacon, he also had what looked like eggs cooking and maybe beans.
"Take a seat, I've prepared breakfast so you have at least one proper meal" he smiles placing down what I think was a spatula, turning around to pick up a plate full of food "your breakfast is served my lady" he smiles in a posh accent while bowing, I laugh a little looking down at the amazing looking food.
"Just to be clear, nothing is gonna start moving on the plate right?" I ask jokingly looking at him, he smiles shaking his head turning back to the cooking.
"I promise, all of the stuff on that plate has been well and truly cooked" he smiles starting to plate his own food, I smile taking my first bite of the bacon and woah, this dude can cook!
In no time he had plated his own food and was sat in front of me at the counter, aww it's our first time having breakfast together. He looks down at his food and sighs, was there something wrong with his food? Does he want more because I can give him some of mine! I have a lot.
"I'm sorry about last night, I should have warned you about what to expect I just didn't think" he says still staring down at his food, wait I hope he realised I was only joking, looking back now it was actually quite funny "we've been having those feasts even before I was born, it's tradition for us and more like a culture event for our wolves, I just forgot that you and Martha don't have wolves so it wouldn't be all happy for you-" he starts to ramble on feeling worse about the whole situation, once I again I didn't think it was such a big deal.
"Hey, you don't have to apologise for a event that you've been doing your whole lives, in retrospect it should be me and Martha apologising for ruin the tradition that you have" I say which he shakes his head to looking sternly at me, this causes me to also sigh "of course, now we know what we are it's gonna be a hard culture shock for everyone, but I don't want you feeling bad for something you enjoy doing and something you've always done, you're used to that as like you said, you've been doing it since before you've been born, it's just something now we're mates that I'm gonna have to get used to" I say holding his hand as I spoke, the last thing I wanted him to feel was bad due to what he loves doing.
"We have the full pack feast tonight, if you think that dinner was intense last night, it's nothing to how the pack one is. Scott and I were talking and it might be a good idea to cancel it-" he starts to say but I cut him off once again, I've been doing that a lot recently.
"You're not cancelling it, as you said it's a feast for the whole pack, I'm not gonna let the whole pack down due to me being a little alarmed by a few moving plates" I laugh which does cause a little laugh to escape his lips "the feast tonight might be a little more intense but as least we know what to expect, it will also give everyone a chance to get to know each other due to how many people have joined the pack from the town, it'll be okay" I smile giving his hand a little squeeze, he sends me a smile back lifting my hand up to place a kiss on it.
"Thank you Erika" he smiles before we both get back to eating our breakfast, he would space out a few times for mind-linking with Scott but was soon back.
I didn't know what I'd be doing today, it seems as though Cody has each day of his planned out. Back home I would know what I was doing, mostly hanging around with Justin. Now I know you're probably asking yourself, does this girl have a job? The answer to your question is no, not because I don't want one trust me, I want nothing more than to start working and earning my own living. Before my mum went missing I used to work at the local hairdressers, obviously I was way to young to go near anybody's hair that was on their heads, so my job would be sweeping all the hair from the floor.
But after my mum went missing my dad quit my job for me, he told me and Ethan that it was much too dangerous outside. He even tried to keep us home from school but thankfully, Reece ensured him that he would be by my side the whole time. Even after I left school he tells me I can't work, so he gives me and Ethan weekly allowances. I know you're all probably thinking, I want that kind of life why is this girl complaining?! On the surface it sounds great but in reality, when all my friends are working I'm alone in my house bored.
I had no clue what I can and can't do here, I don't even know what kind of stuff there is to do. I know as Luna, I don't do much so most Luna's go around and talk to the pack members, that's why they love her so much. But I haven't even been introduced to the pack yet, would they even want to see me? When I walked by yesterday they did all smile, you know yeah that's what I'm gonna do today! If Cody doesn't have anything planned, if he does I can do it tomorrow, things are looking up!
"So what have you got planned today?" I ask as I place my plate in the sink, Cody would have been done before me but he got a second helping, that dude can cook but he can also eat.
"Scott comes over each morning and gives me a rundown, I decide what issue is more urgent and we go from there" he explains shoving more bacon into his mouth, does he get full?
"Issues?" I ask washing my hands in the sink, I was worried I would smell like egg and that wouldn't be a good introduction to the pack members.
"There's always something going wrong, once in a blue moon he comes to me with good news" he sighs starting to lick the leftovers from the plate, he must have been hungry.
"I mean there's probably so many great things happening in the pack, but your job is to protect it so you only hear about the more urgent matters" I say trying to make him feel better, he gets up also placing his plate in the sink with mine.
He comes up behind me wrapping his arms around me, I smile leaning into him as the door begins to knock. He shouts at Scott to walk in while he places his head in my neck, I guess I'm here for this little meeting they're having. Scott soon enters the kitchen with a folder in his hand, he bids us good morning while putting the folder to his side.
"So what's the matter today?" Cody asks looking up from my neck at Scott, isn't he even a little bit optimistic that it's gonna be good news?
"I'm not here to see you yet Cody, I'm here for Erika" Scott says which makes my eyes go wide and Cody to tense slightly behind me.
"Erika, why do you need to speak to her?" Cody asks from behind me once again, I also wanted to know this information.
"You know how I am Cody, I do not like to discuss matters with people who aren't involved in this, I'm sure Erika will inform you of the matter in due course but for right now, I need to talk with Erika in your office" Scott informs us while walking down the hall, which I'm guessing is to Cody's office.
I take a worried look to Cody before starting to leave the kitchen, just before I leave I turn to look at Cody. He still hadn't moved from the spot at the counter, I shrug my shoulders before turning to follow Scott into the office.
Unclear of what we're actually going to discus.
