Chapter Twenty-Eight

The people get closer where I could now see who they were, my dad was leading the group while Justin was close behind him. Reece emerges from the trees somewhere just ahead, he looked like a ninja! I know this wasn't really the time but it was nice to see them, I also know it's not even been a week since I left. But I used to see all of them every single day no matter what, now it's changed to me not seeing them for days, it's a huge swift! I feel a hand take my arm and pull me back slightly, I knew from which arm was grabbed that it was Cody who did it. His hand remained on my arm holding me, but not in a rough way just in a way to keep me there. "Erika" is all my dad says as they stop abruptly, they very nearly went over the border line, that wouldn't have been good. "I'm okay no need to panic, the reason we're here is due to Martha, she's gone missing and left a note saying she's going back to town" I explain hoping this was the first of them hearing about Martha, let's all hope they hadn't found her in town before we got here. "Ha, I see Martha is up to her same old tricks" Justin laughs crossing his arms, I know to everyone him saying that wouldn't be a big deal. Just from looking at him I could see how much he's changed, I've only been away for a few days and he already looked like a different person. For starters his clothes, normally he was a laid back sort of guy, he normally wears hoodies with normal tracksuit bottoms, he rarely ever wore jeans. But standing in front of me now, he was wearing a suit basically! Just without the jacket. His attitude was also way different, just the way he spoke was no unlike him. "You've came here to check she isn't hiding in someone's shed or anything right?" He asks taking one step forward, I just give him a look than to Reece who gave me a look back. "Yes, we were hoping if you've found her you've let her go" I say knowing how unlikely that really was, I saw how they treated her before I found out she had a wolf mate. "You know the rules Erika, if someone that has left the town to go live with their mate they aren't allowed back, if someone is found in the town than they get killed on sight" my dad says trying to refresh my memory on the rules, even through I didn't need a refresher on any of the stupid rules. "She still doesn't like the rules do you Erika, I'm suspecting the little days you've been in that pack, you like it there" Justin says turning his negative attention towards me, well I can't lie and say I haven't enjoyed it because I have. "I'm suspecting you now think you're something because my dad has asked you to help him, well I'm not like you and enjoy enforcing rules that harm others just for my enjoyment, that takes a sick kind of person which you obviously are" I say snapping back at him in a disgusted way, I wasn't having the likes of Justin talk down to me "now we didn't come here so you could pretend to have bigger balls than you do, we came here to make sure you haven't done anything to Martha and you'll hopefully let us look for her" I say now turning to my dad with hopeful eyes, I know we'll be breaking the rules letting me come in but we need to find her! "That would be breaking the rules, you decided to swap places with me so you're stuck there!" The annoying officer starts to shout from behind them, I thought he nearly crapped his pants last time he spoke "you know we should look at her neck to make sure she isn't marked, she seems to be really close to that Alpha guy" he continues to shout pointing over at Cody, well it's lucky I'm not marked then isn't it. "That Alpha guy has a name, now you better show him some respect before I let these two teach you some, let's be honest I'm the only person that's stopping them do that very thing" I say something in me got very offended when he disrespected Cody, probably the Luna side of me again. The dude looks terrified once again but this time walks away from it, yeah that's probably for the best little man. "We are being polite at the moment, but I can assure you if you've harmed a hair on my mates head, the pain I will inflict on you and this town will be something out of your nightmares" Scott growls from beside me, this causes me to look around and raise my eyebrows, that isn't what we discussed "now if you don't want that to occur, I suggest you allow Erika in to look for her or I will, you really won't like the way will do" he growls which just tells me this has took a turn and I need to fix it, if I don't they're gonna find out how close I really am to these people and especially Cody. "What Scott is trying to say is, please just let me take a look around the town to see if I find her, she's not in the right state of mind and made an impulse decision, if you're worried I'm gonna do something you can all come with me" I suggest but they knew I wasn't gonna do anything to the town, I've stopped Scott three times now. "It's not you we're worried about Erika, you know I would let you come in at a drop of a hat, it's these guys behind you I don't trust" my dad says now pointing at Scott and Cody, there's a lot of pointing going around today. "Do you believe that we trust you, I do not trust that if I send Erika to look that you all won't try to harm her or lock her up, that is why I want one of my men here to company her, so we know she'll come back safely" Cody finally speaks from behind me, he's been silent this entire time. "She is my daughter, you monsters probably don't even care about her well-being, you're just doing this and keeping her away from us to prove a point" my dad says getting all defensive, I feel Cody tense beside me growing rather angry at what my dad just said. "On the contrary, I care deeply about your daughter and her safely, I've begun to care about her immensely the last few days she's been with us, so have the pack members" Cody says defending himself which does make me smile a little, it's true just today at the feast I had so many amazing conversations with the pack members. "Permission to speak Alpha?" One of the border guards say, Cody nods allowing the man to speak "In response to your claim that we do not care about the lun-I mean Miss Erika, any person in this pack would die if it meant she would be safe, it is disrespectful for you to even suggest that we would allow her to be harmed in anyway" he says looking my dad dead in the eyes once again, if it wasn't for my dad and the town watching me, I'd probably cry at that statement. "How about I go in with one of Cody's men and Reece, you all wait here where you can keep an eye on each other while we look for Martha?" I suggest knowing how much time we were wasting standing here, not all the police officers are here, there's a chance another could see her and hurt her. My dad looks at me for a second than nods, I smile as Cody instructs the border guard who spoke before to company me. I go to stand beside him before we both step over the border and into the town, the feeling shifted immediately once we stepped over. Part of me stayed behind in the pack, even though I've lived in this town my whole life and have only been away for a few days, it felt so wrong and different being stood on this side. I turn back to look at Cody, who's eyes hadn't left where I was standing for even a second. I send him a reassuring smile as Reece comes to stand beside me, he holds his arm up for me to take. I smile linking arms with him before he leads me towards town, with my very own guard.
