Chapter Twenty-Six
A few hectic hours had passed since I first proposed my crazy idea, the rest of the pack soon got word about the changes and were also happy. It's great to see everyone working together to make this work, the humans and the wolves were helping each other so it could get done in time.
I was helping Cody and Scott set up the place for the wolves, the only thing I wasn't going to help with was the poor animals, knowing me I'll feel bad and release them all. I was just finishing setting up the barrier separating the wolves and the human section, we didn't want anyone getting hurt if something ran to our bit.
I stand up straight looking around at what we've done, you had the wolf's part which was just an open wood with the barriers. Across from that was where I know I'll be spending most of my time, the children's part, I just love being around children. Whenever there's an event where children are allowed, I would much rather spend my time with the kids. They're so sweet and innocent, while the adults like to talk about real annoying things that are wrong with the world, the kids have a more happy outlook on life.
They had mini tables with finger food that they'll enjoy, I made sure they had a bunch of jelly's as from what I saw from the feast yesterday, it was just vegetables and all healthy foods. They also had a huge place to play games and run around, in hopes to burn all the sugar they just ingested, I didn't want no angry parents coming for me later tonight. Just ahead from the kids part was where all the young people and adults can stand, there was a bunch of food and drink suitable for any humans and wolves. There was a seating area at the side where people can just chill, I was really happy with how it all turned out.
I feel hands going around my waist snapping me out my thoughts, Cody smiles over at me placing a kiss on my neck.
"Look what you did, you've been here less than a day and you're already an incredible Luna" he smiles placing his head on my shoulder just looking around, I smile leaning back on him amazed myself.
"It's not just thanks to me, the whole pack came together to get this done" I smile looking around at the last few people hanging things up, I don't know what past me would have thought if she found out I'd be here.
People soon start to make their way over indicating that it was time for the feast, normally they have it at nighttime but because we're having it outside it will be better in the day. Children also aren't really invited to the feast which I thought wasn't fair, so we're having the main part in the morning and if any adults want to continue to party, they will have something set up in the pack house.
I was just making my way through the party, people would stop to talk to me every two seconds. They all would say how happy they are that I organised the feast this year, apparently they've all wanted to change the way the feast is run for ages, but no one wanted to be the first to say anything. Cody tagged along for awhile before he went off to let his wolf run free, I would have gone to watch but my fear of wolves prevented me from doing so. From what I've heard from the wolves that came back from that part of the feast, it's the best time they've had in ages which just makes me so happy.
I had just finished talking to someone when Scott runs over, he kept looking behind him before finally speaking.
"I've just saw your mum" he tells me which makes my heart sink, I did forget all about her and what we found out for a second "she's been asking people if they've seen you, I just thought I'd let you know so it's not a crazy surprise" Scott continues as my eyes just begin to scan the crowd, I really didn't want her to jump out of nowhere.
"Thank you for telling me Scott, I don't want to see her yet so I guess I'll just have to try and avoid" I sigh still looking around, I was enjoying myself before this point.
"Before I leave, have you seen Martha anywhere?" He asks also looking around the crowd, no she is actually someone I thought I'd see but didn't.
I tell him I'll keep a look out for her while avoiding my mother, he rubs my shoulder a little in sympathy before leaving to join Cody, I know for sure that Martha was here but she's one of the only people I'm yet to come across. I don't know why I was so shocked when Scott told me my mum was here, she's a part of this pack and it's an event that every pack member attends. I think I've been so busy setting this all up that she kind it slipped my mind, it's crazy how a few months can change everything.
Around a year ago, if someone were to come up to me and tell me they've just saw my mum. First I wouldn't believe them but then I'd be so happy, even to hear that she was alive and safe that would be the best news in the world. But now when Scott told me all I want to do is hide from her, I don't think I'm really ready to have that conversation where she tells me why she did everything she did. All the pain and hurt she put me, Ethan but mainly my dad through, he would spend weeks on end searching for her. He nearly killed himself while searching, just for her to be safe, getting married and having another family just miles away! What if something did end up happening to my dad? Would she have come out of the wood work and took me and Ethan in? Or would she have just left us to fend for ourselves? I thought I knew the person my mum was, but it seems as though I didn't and don't know anything about her.
My thoughts are cut short by someone taking my arm, I jump in surprise turning to see it was only Cody. Thank goodness it wasn't her, I don't know what I would have done.
"Are you okay, you were just standing there with a worried look on your face?" Cody asks pulling me to the side slightly, I still hadn't told him what me and Scott were talking about in his office yet, so I didn't know if I could really tell him what I looking all worried about.
"Sorry I was a million miles away, did you have fun with your wolf?" I ask hoping to derail the conversation away from what I was worried about, I didn't want to have to give the very emotional story of my mum right in front of everyone, what a party pooper I would be!
"It was great, everyone's elated that they got the opportunity to do that, it's all because of your amazing idea" he smiles placing a kiss on my head, I keep getting praised around here I don't know if it's good for my ego let's me real "now come on, it's time for my speech" he smiles taking my hand and pulling me towards the pack house, I didn't even know he was doing a speech.
Near the steps for the pack house was a little raised platform, Scott was stood at the edge of it scanning the crowd, Martha was still nowhere to be seen though. Before I had time to overthink where Martha would be, I'm pulled onto the platform along with Cody. I thought he was giving the speech not me! As soon as we walk onto the platform the place instantly goes silent, you could have heard a pin drop. I stand on the edge of the platform at the back while Cody moves closer to the front.
"Pack members, firstly I want to thank everyone for coming out and to the members who aided us in setting up this last minute event" he says powerful voice making a reappearance, I look out at the crowd mostly to see if I could see Martha "we have the Luna to thank for her incredible idea" Cody says turning to look at me, while he takes my hand and pulls me to stand right beside him.
"We hope this was a good event to welcome all the new pack members and the Luna, into the pack, now we'll let you get on with your night, dismissed" Cody says which makes everyone in front bow with respect, I just send a few of them a smile as Cody leads me back off the platform.
As we reach the bottom a more frantic Scott stood, he continued to look around the crowd still looking for Martha.
"I can't find her, I've looked everywhere and asked everyone, no one's seen her since she arrived at the party with me hours ago!" He exclaims worry just clear on his face, I wasn't that worried yet as it's not the first time Martha's vanished.
"Don't panic, I know Martha and she sometimes needs a break from huge social events, maybe she's just gone home" I shrug knowing she's probably there right now drinking tea, once again this isn't the first time she's done something like this.
Scott immediately bolts towards his house without another word, Cody shakes his head while I continue to watch Scott run off.
"Why are you looking at him like that?" Cody asks sounding rather jealous, I was just amazed at how quick the dude was running more than anything, but I love winding people up as you already know.
"He is some good eye candy" I smirk knowing full well what kind of reaction I'd get, he lets out growl moving closer to stand right in front of me "obviously, you're much better eye candy than him" I smile looking up at his face, I could have carried on but we all know where that went last time.
"You need to stop doing that" he sighs while pulling me towards the part with the food "one of these days, you're gonna make me attack a man" he says plopping a grape into his mouth, I just raise my eyebrow not really buying that he would attack a man over me looking at them.
"When I find your ex boyfriend, he's gonna get a shock" he says shoving another grape into his mouth, before I had time to respond Scott sprints back over to us.
"She isn't there but she left a note saying she's going back to town!" He shouts handing me the note she left.
They'll kill her!
