Violet
It's strange how I'm pretty calm. I smiled at the green canopy of leaves over my head, then sighed at the soft pale moonlight that filtered in from the cluster of fluttering leaves. I shut my eyes and slowly turned around as I listened to the symphony of sounds made by the forest critters. I exhaled and opened my eyes, and they locked on glowing violet ones, and I smiled—a soft, kindly smile. The kind an old lady wearing a pink knitted sweater and sitting in a rocking chair will give you before offering you a freshly baked cookie from her enormous jar. The kind a tired mother gives her wrinkly yet beautiful newborn right after it pops out. Yes. That's the kind of smile I had as I looked into those violet eyes and gave myself an imaginary pat on the back for how calm I was.
Purple eyes followed us.
For some reason, he came along with us.
We were to leave to find the Glass Seers, with nothing but a picture and a poorly drawn map... oh, and a guiding light, but I don't trust that shite to lead the way to the toilet. Now you might wonder why I don't trust a magically programmed guiding light. Well, my answer is you won't trust it as well if it's a small cartoon 3D flying doll that keeps bumping into everything. Its thumbnail-sized face is cute, I'll give it that, but cute won't help us find those glasses.
I'm going out of context.
Okay, so I walked into the chief's house, thankfully through the door this time, and I find May... or Maera already seated there. And on the other side is purple eyes bundled up in a dark coat, and the chief is standing by his side with that infuriating grin cast at me.
"Baby," he called.
I got goosebumps and shivered in momentary disgust.
"Don't call me that," I hissed, "ever."
I felt a cold glare and turned to see purple eyes staring me down. When our eyes met, he turned away with a huff. It almost seemed grumpy. Then his little legs shot forward and kicked the chief right on the butt. The chief tumbled forward a bit.
I thought he would be mad, but he just barked a deep belly laugh and gave purple eyes a teasing smile. The whole thing lasted for a second. May seemed confused as she looked at them. I can't blame her; I was also surprised. The chief wasn't a nice person, I could tell that much, but he let purple eyes get away with kicking him. Not just that, purple eyes was seated while the chief stood slightly bent beside him in an almost subservient manner.
Who exactly is this kid?
The chief said to me, "Stop staring and sit, querida."
"I was going to," I moved and plopped down beside May.
The chief blinked at me.
"What?" I bristled.
"You don't understand Spanish, ah."
Why was he asking that? Don't tell me I need to know Spanish to get the glasses?? What if he doesn't let me go? I looked at the three people in the room. I didn't trust anyone of them. Are they trying to stop me from finding my parents? I was starting to panic and get a tad bit paranoid.
So I made a decision, "I understand Spanish, why?" a decision to lie.
"Are you sure?" His tone was doubtful.
I nodded.
I thought the questions would continue, but he simply smiled and turned to purple eyes.
"This is Ares," he looked me in the eyes, "so don't keep calling him Purple Eyes."
"I don't call him that!" I quickly denied, stealing a glance at Ares.
Another lie.
May spoke for the first time since I entered, "Like the god of war?" she looked at purple eyes curiously.
"Tch, he's too tiny to do much harm," I grumbled. Like I'd forgotten how I was scared shitless a few days ago by his morbid eyes. I swear that shite was like a swirling purple vortex. It's kinda cool tho, until he's staring at you!
"Nice to meet you, Ares," I gave my best 32 teeth display smile to show just how 'happy' I was.
So it came as quite the shocker when the purple-eyed, cold-looking kid started to tear up!
I stepped back in alarm as I watched his quivering lips. What the actual hell!?
"Why did you look like that!" May scolded as she rushed to his side. She raised her hand to pat his back, but the chief caught her hand and shoved it away. She stumbled a little.
"Sorry, Maera, he doesn't like to be touched."
"Ah," she nodded slowly with a frown, "but he's cute, I guess he can get away with anything... but why's he crying? I don't think Aria's less than perfect face could have scared him so much! Right?"
I glared at her.
I subconsciously touched my face. I've looked in the mirror, and I know I'm hot. I smirked at the thought.
"He's not crying, and you didn't see anything. He is merely upset!" the chief sighed.
"S-she forgot meeee!" Ares wailed. This time he was no doubt crying because a rivulet of tears ran down his fair, chubby face.
The chief bit his lip and shrugged with an 'I give up' attitude.
I pointed at my nose in surprise, "Me?"
In response, the cry got louder. A shrill kind that made me want to puncture my eardrums or kill someone.
"Sorry!" I yelled. I'd apologize to the heavens just to make it stop. "I'm sorry, I didn't forget you really, I was just messing with you, okay?"
Another lie.
Then silence.
I opened my tightly shut eyes to see Ares looking at me coldly. May was tapping her ears with a dazed look in her eyes, the chief, unaffected, leaned against the wall sipping tea from his 'good china.'
"Mmm, sweet," he smacked his lips and pushed himself off the wall. "Well, now that that's over, let's get down to business, shall we?"
