Virgo
The witch watched in amusement as the werewolves fought the ferals. She noticed a few witchlets putting up an impressive fight in the corner too. They were pretty strong, but they were no match for an endless horde of ferals. She was surprised to see witches openly moving in the pack and attending a banquet too, no less. She located Alpha Kain in the fray. He might be aging, but he was still an Alpha, so a few ferals would be no problem for him. Then she would send more.
Alpha Kain put down a feral; a second later, another one attacked him. As he fought, he noticed a tall figure by the door. At first, he thought he must be seeing things; after all, that woman is dead. The woman was not fighting, neither was she being attacked by any ferals. In his urgency, he quickly tore apart the feral against him and headed for the door. The woman saw him approaching and smiled. As he got closer, he noticed the odd color of her skin.
"It's been a long time, darling. Did you miss me?" she said. Her eyes shone with a strange light; Alpha Kain felt his chest tighten. It really was her!
"Virgo," he called with a trembling tone.
"It is I," she nodded.
"You... you're supposed to be... dead."
"I am, aren't I? But I changed my mind, living—to watch you die... well, I couldn't resist."
Jerry watched in horror and a slight sense of helplessness as his sister and her friends fought.
"I can't watch you," Lev slashed down with his broadsword at a feral. The broadsword disappeared, and a gun appeared.
"Find a way to leave," the gun shot out flames, burning the feral up.
Jerry didn't want to leave, especially as he saw a bunch of those monsters surround a lone she-wolf. There was no bone left when they were done with her. If one of those things caught him, he wouldn't last a second.
Lev shot flames left and right. "Go go go," he yelled, "I'll create a path for you, help some people if you can."
Jerry ran for the door. The banquet had been for powerful high-ranking wolves, and they were all fighting now, so there was no one for Jerry to help even if he wanted to. Jerry got to the door and noticed a woman standing there. Her clothes were torn, and she stared straight ahead. He assumed she was terrified and pulled at her hand.
"Don't just stand there, run!" The woman was like a tree rooted into the ground; she didn't even budge a little. She tilted her head and looked down at Jerry like he was a strange thing. Her hand clamped around his and dragged him up. She sniffed him.
"What... what are you doing?" Jerry was starting to feel something was wrong, especially as he saw her color. When he looked into her eyes, he knew she was not human... or wolf.
"Arghhhh!" Jerry screamed. It was partially drowned by the sound of fighting.
The woman touched her face with a slight frown. "You scream when you see my face, you're a very rude boy."
Jerry struggled to remove his hand from her grip. His fear and the extreme situation must have triggered something because he felt a tingle in the hand she was gripping. At first, he thought the witch was doing something to him. But the tingle soon turned into a flow, like something was being sucked into him. The witch's eyes widened, and she dropped him. He fell with a thump and shuffled away from her.
The witch's body shook, like a faulty hologram, fizzing between two images. Her body seemed to shift between the dark-eyed woman and a girl. Jerry's mouth opened in shock when he saw the profile of the girl. Sis?
The fluctuations continued and then stabilized. The witch glared down at Jerry. Jerry stiffened.
"So you're a magic absorber? Tried to fool me, eh?" She took a step towards Jerry, and he shuffled three steps away.
"You're an annoying type, perhaps I should turn you into a feral and save myself the future trouble."
Jerry shook his head wildly. He did not want to turn into those things! Help!
Aria blew away another group of ferals. She turned to check on Jerry but saw Lev fighting alone. She looked around with dread. Then she saw him. He was sitting on his butt, staring up at a tall woman. The woman looked odd and out of place. Aria saw her dark eyes and noticed her mouth moving as if saying a spell.
"Ares!" She screamed. Ares appeared beside her in a flash.
"Are you okay?" he asked even though he had been keeping an eye on her and was sure she had not been hurt.
"Help Jerry now," Aria pleaded.
Ares located Jerry; he also noticed the odd woman. A transparent shield emerged and covered Jerry.
"Don't worry; nothing can hurt him now," Ares assured her.
Jerry cowered, waiting for the woman's curse. When nothing happened, he opened his eyes to see a familiar dome around him.
Outside the dome, Virgo cursed; her dark eyes narrowed at the source of the dome magic. The caster stared back at her. A young man with violet eyes. She scoffed, "Meddlesome witchlets!" Then she vanished in a puff of black smoke.
As soon as she disappeared, the ferals seemed to lose their energy. They did not slow down, but they no longer had the same lethality as before, hence they were easier to fight. Aria and her group made quick work of them. Some minutes later, the chaotic hall calmed down. Aria did a quick count; everyone was here except Sue. She recalled Sue had left earlier for some air. Hopefully, she is fine.
She hurried over to Jerry's side. The protective dome had come down, but Jerry still sat there in a daze.
"Snap out of it, dude," Aria jerked him. "Why did you leave Lev's side; you could have been killed!"
"Come along; let's go look for Sue. She's been gone for a long while; I'm worried."
Jerry looked up with a start. "Sue... she..."
Aria frowned. "She what? Did you see her?"
"She's that person!"
Aria thumped his head. "What person? Speak clearly!"
"The woman that attacked me! I don't know what happened to her, but she changed into Sue severally!"
"What?" Aria gasped.
Ares came up to them. "What's wrong?"
Aria turned to him. "I don't know; Jerry's talking rubbish!"
"I'm not! I know what I saw!"
"What did you see?" Ares asked.
"The woman that attacked me is my sister! How can I not recognize her; it was like she glitched or something, so she kept changing between Sue and herself."
Aria pulled him. "Tell him he's talking nonsense..." When Ares did not reply, Aria's expression cracked.
"Tell me he's talking nonsense."
"He's not; I believe our burden has begun."
